I'm Gonna Keep Throwin You Trades Til' One Sticks

It's gonna be a good day today cause I'm sendin you a bonus three-team trade (Try to contain yourself). It's a move between Us, Toronto, and Charlotte. Enjoy.

We Recieve: Jarrett Jack and Marcus Banks

Toronto Recieves: DJ Augustin, Nazr Mohammed, and Solomon Jones (Maybe a pick?)

Charlotte Recieves: TJ Ford

Why Charlotte Agrees: This team has lost their starting PG as mediocre as he may have been. They reportedly had interest in Ford at the trade deadline but the deal got called off at the last second for unknown reasons. Ford is surely on the market and I'm sure the Bobcats have at least called once to check his asking price.

Why Toronto Agrees: They're looking to get young and practically tanking this year most likely to get in position for a top 5 draft pick due to the "Miami Thrice" taking their start player (Annoying Name). DJ Augustin is the biggest piece while also being paired with all contracts that cease to exist after this year. Jack has been somewhat of a leader in the Raptors locker room and has even been sighted at the Las Vegas Summer League helping young Raptors learn the game quicker. Not sure what their asking price is but if Charlotte and us throw in 2nd round picks I don't see them turning this one down.

Why We Agree: First reason is Jarrett's leadership and commitment to his teams. He's one of the most loyal players in the league and leads like a 15 year veteran at the age of 26. He's also tough and hits the long ball which is attractive to Larry's and Jim O'Brien's playing styles. Both players in the trade can play point guard which is an obvious desperation. Then we still have plenty of money for Free Agency seeing that Marcus Banks' contract of 4.8 million dollars ends this year as well.

I like it guys, but who else does? Any holes? I'd love to hear it.

I'm cold on Jack

He’s overpriced, years-wise, but as long as no one thought he was a long-term starter, I’d be fine with the Pacers re-acquiring him. That said, I’m not sure Charlotte gives up on DJ Augustine for what amounts to nothing. I mean, yeah, they may have liked Ford, but surely they know that if they really like him they can just wait until next summer and get him for 2/3rds what he’s making now, right? I mean, Mohammed’s an expiring contract at around $7 mil. You’re telling me the million or so they’d save next season is worth trading away a player as promising as Augustin, who’s team option they own? And Toronto is the one who’d need this sweetened with a draft pick? That’s a little crazy. Toronto would do this in a heartbeat. I think you’re overvaluing Jack quite a bit. He’s not as good as you remember.

According to reports

Charlotte appears to be interested in taking back Jose Calderon in a deal with the Raptors.

by Tom Lewis on Jul 12, 2010 9:30 PM EDT reply actions

Is that trade involving Calderon? I wasn’t sure on the specifics

by B-Huse on Jul 12, 2010 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Yep

Details aren’t set, but it sounds like Boris Diaw for sure and possibly Tyson Chandler from CHA to TOR for Jose Calderon and something else, possibly a trade exception. If they weren’t bringing in Calderon I’d dream of dealing TJ for a trade exception…

I like Jack...

But not as a starter. And since we have Stephenson and Price There’s not much room for a 2nd string PG.

by gut19 on Jul 12, 2010 9:40 PM EDT reply actions

I mean who knows if Stephenson can even play PG? I love Jack as a sixth man but on this team he’d be the starter for now. Free Agency next year I’d wanna try and work something out that puts him on the bench but until then he’d do.

by B-Huse on Jul 12, 2010 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

You don't know

But its a risk worth taking, considering what he could bring. You NEVER know with rookies, but Lance displayed he has an NBA ready game and he clearly has the physical ability to be awesome. What more could you ask for someone not named John Wall?

Like the trade efforts B Huse

With that being said I can’t agree with this one. To me this trade seems like we would be trading just to trade. I do not really see it making us better short term or long term. I would not want to take Jack and his salary back just to hope you can make him a future sixth man. I have to agree with Luke here I think we might being giving Jack a little to much love.

Damn… wish this trade coulda worked out. I thin Jarrett gave us something we needed and was the only reason we were close to the playoffs the year we had him. He filled in a lot when players were injured and played well. That kind of leadership and stability I feel is great for a young team.

Keep putting them together B Huse

It looks like the Jazz and T Wolves are close to a deal for Al Jefferson. Maybe you can put a 3 team trade together where we can get one of the PG from the T Wolves

by Pacerlove333 on Jul 12, 2010 11:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Yea the thing is about that trade is I would like to know what the Wolves would want. Apparently its mostly for the contact of Erick Dampier. I would like to know what it would take to get him.

by B-Huse on Jul 13, 2010 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

You mean what it would take to get Jefferson?

Just instant cap space. That’s all they want. We don’t have any.

Is there a team option on Dampier’s contract?

by B-Huse on Jul 13, 2010 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions

It's non-guaranteed

They can cut him for an instant $13 million in cap savings. Very rare in the NBA, but you see them occasionally. Usually not for guys making this much.

In any event...

The deal’s not going down for Dampier. It’s Al for Boozer’s trade exception. Idiot David Kahn wants more cap space for God knows what reason.

Yea Dampier’s contract can be dropped, I just looked it up. I agree though I’m not sure why the Wolves do this. You don’t just give up a 20/10 type guy when he’s 25, injury concerns or not….

by B-Huse on Jul 13, 2010 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

T Wolves are just idiots

Maybe they will just roll with 5 PG!!!! No seriously why do the Wolves do this? I am really asking. Maybe its a situation off the court maybe Jefferson just does not fit or maybe they are just in love with Darko and Love. They paid big to resign Darko but they seem willing to just drop Jefferson and for what to clear cap space? The T Wolves could not get players to come when they had the The Big Ticket in his prime and at least made the playoffs every year. So why do they think players will come now?

Just how long do teams keep draft rights on players.

I was looking at the rules and it said something like 1 year after the draft. However, that doesn’t seem to apply to Europeans. Why? Doesn’t it seem like Rubio could just hold out and go to NY or wherever in a few years?

by infinityzero.systemerror on Jul 13, 2010 1:15 AM EDT up reply actions

We've seen Eurpoeans hold out longer than Rubio has

Tiago Splitter was drafted by the Spurs in like 2007 or something, right? And he JUST signed with them this week, and for a while they thought he was going to re-sign with his Spanish team. Like there was never any discussion that he had some legal obligation to play for the Spurs. The Magic have a dude, also Spanish I think, who’s name escapes me, who they’ve been waiting on for longer. It’s like you’re taking a gamble when you draft a Euro player that he’ll ever decide to come over. That’s one of the things that makes him stupid. We’re only vaguely knowledgeable about the rules and even we could’ve predicted Rubio would stay away from Minny, at least the Minny team Kahn has constructed.

I mean Al Jefferson may have attitude concerns (which I’ve never heard), but that stil doesn’t merit trading him for practically nothing. They could get more.

by B-Huse on Jul 13, 2010 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Not 100%

I think a team has the draft rights to a player for 4 years after that they become free agents. Rubio has a pretty big buyout with his current team and I think the T Wolves or a team in the future would have to buyout that big contract..

by Pacerlove333 on Jul 13, 2010 1:25 AM EDT reply actions

Good facts, thank you

The Spurs sent Splitter’s something cheap, like $500k I think. And he was the Spanish League MVP. You’d think Kahn would be actively trying to get this done if all it took was a buyout. But we hear about other GMs over there flirting with Rubio, you’ve got to wonder if Kahn even remembers he drafted him, or if he’s just going to overpay Ridnour and roll with him.

If he can't get Rubio to come.

He would certainly be the dumbest GM ever. I understand taking best player available but if he doesn’t want to play for you and really won’t play for you, you may want to draft someone else. That was a pretty deep draft I would have to say.
