Daily trade ideas to throw against the wall

If Larry is really serious about rebuilding this thing quickly. I propose two realistic deals that would accomplish the rebuild.

Not completely original on my part, so I think both would have realistic merit.

Star-divide

Trade 1:

Danny Granger and the 10th pick to Minnesota in exchange for Al Jefferson and the 4th pick.

Trade 2:

Troy Murphy and Roy Hibbert to New Orleans for Emeka Okafor, Darren Collison and the 11th pick.

Reasoning behind these moves:

The 4th pick is likely to be DeMarcus Cousins or Derrick Favors (likely Cousins). 19 years old with some of the best legitimate 5 upside to come along in recent memory. At worst will be the rugged rebounder and defensive presence we have really never had in Pacers franchise history. The Okafor/Jefferson/Cousins front court 4 and 5 rotation would be among the top 5 in the league in my opinion.

Collision would give us a legitimate PG prospect to team with AJ Price and hopefully solve a problem spot that has persisted for far too long.

The 11th pick from New Orleans could most likely be used to bring in Paul George.

9 man rotation of:

Okafor

Jefferson

George

Rush

Collision

Cousins

Dunleavy

D Jones

TJ Ford/ AJ Price

Plus we would still have the Foster, Dunleavy, Ford expiring contracts to dangle for future draft picks and young wing players.

Just like that we change the whole makeup of the roster, and remake it with exciting young players.

Fire away!!!!!!

I'd do it.

In a heart beat, I’d do that. Alot of people will poo-poo this deal, partly b/c Jefferson and Okafor may not play up to their sallary, but it would give us a tremendous front line and time for Cousins to develope. We’d pretty much have no shot at going small and quick, but who cares with that lineup? I’m not at all adverse to trading Danny if we get back a decent player and a high pick.

I could see Minny doing this, but I don’t think New Orleans would. They’d probably do it without the draft pick, or maybe even a protected future pick, but I’m not sure that they’d trade Collison for Hibbert straight up. Then you really have to ask yourself, would they take on Murphy’s expiring deal for Okafor and the 11th? I’m not sure.

So. I would go a step further if need be to get this done. I’d throw in Ford for Posey and I think New Orleans would almost have to do that considering the amount of cap space it gives them next year. However, this would force New Orleans to have a slightly higher tax number for the 2010 season (Difference in Posey’s and Ford’s contract is about $2mil. in favor of Posey). So, maybe they wouldn’t do it. Wonder if they’d rather us keep Hibbert and send Solomon Jones and they can keep the pick? Still might not be enough.

Why couldn’t that Russian guy have bought the Pacers? Bet we could get it done if management was willing to pay a little more in luxury tax to gain a ton of youth and solid vets (at a VERY difficult position to fill, starting Center).

 Oh well. We shall see.

We could send Foster

In place of Ford. That would help their tax situation

True

But, then we’d be WAY over the tax and would be giving them Hibbert and Foster and taking their only backup PG. I’d do it for sure, but I think it makes it harder for both management teams to handle.

Could work…. don’t really like Cousins though. When u have time to prepare speeches for these teams when they have you for interviews and you still bomb it? Somethings wrong… think what he would say if an agent wasn’t pulling the strings. I honestly think the 4th spot is about the worst place to be in this draft unless you’re craving for a small forward like Wesley Johnson. Monroe, Aminu, and Cousins just aren’t the bargains Derrick Favors, John Wall and Evan Turner are. I say you get that 4th pick you trade it.

Darren Collison, James Posey, and Emeka Okafor for Mike Dunleavy, T.J. Ford and Brandon Rush works money-wise. May be the best deal they get if they’re wanting to unload money. We get to keep our pick too.

I'd love to see this...

…and it’s close to something I proposed, but I really don’t think Bird (and more so, ownership) would take on that much future salary. I think Okafor is getting a bad rap. He’s probably good for 30mpg, 12-14ppg, 9-10rpg, 1.5-2bpg. That ain’t bad at all and you wouldn’t have to run any offense for him.

Not that it would matter b/c I don’t think we could do both trades (though I’d love either)….

I worry a bit about Jefferson’s game, but I think if he can stay healthy he can be productive. If he’s as much of a black hole as some say he may have to come off the bench and just be grind it out offense for the 2nd unit.

Other than putting on 20lbs. in the off-season (and he still has looked very good in workouts) and being a bit of a hot-head, I still haven’t heard one good example of why this guy is such a character risk and has a reputation as lazy. If you watched any games, he seemed to be the most focused and intense player on that team. I love this dude, and other than the great potential that Favors has, I think Cousins could be the 2nd or 3rd best player in this draft and I like alot of players in this draft. Of course if I was a Scout or GM, I’d have alot more info at my dispense to justify this and off-set my risk.

Yea apparently in his interviews it was just baaaaaad though…. I mean these guys bascially have a script to read from their agents and he’s still screwin it up. I think the money will get to him….. in my opinion

Wouldn't be the first guy.

That’s hard to tell. This was before he had an agent (atleast officially).

I like this dude. If I’m taking a big, strong, mean center in the top 5, I want him to be cocky.

Hey, you have faith in him and I admire it and you could be right. Reggie and KG were guys that were notoriously cocky and it seemed to work, but there’s a lot of guys who couldn’t manage it. I just don’t have the faith in him you do…. doesn’t mean I’m right. Only time will tell

You're taking away any semblance of "run and gun" with Al, Cousins and Okafor

Not that JOB’s philosophy has really worked yet anyway. While I don’t think that this is realistic from a Pacers standpoint, I think it’s fair. I just don’t know where it gets us. Jefferson may have already peaked, Okafor may very well suck, from what we’ve seen lately and I don’t think Paul George is there at 11. Beyond that, I don’t believe in Cousins in the slightest.

But chemistry-wise, with the right coach, you’ve got a group here that could work together and really implement a decent half-court oriented offense. Okafor is your garbage guy, Cousins/Jefferson are your low post scorers. George (if we land him…if not, maybe Xavier Henry?) is your go-to perimeter scorer. Collison, if he pans out, can run the show. It’s just that you’ve basically grouped together a bunch of guys who may very well only be good on bad teams, plus rookies who we know very little about. I’m not sure it’s accurate to call this a “rebuild.” It’s more of a “shakeup.”

That said, I’d probably do it, I just don’t think Bird would. I sincerely doubt Granger’s on the table.

run and gun

is a cop-out philosophy for a coach that can’t coach defense…

by BenD on Jun 16, 2010 9:19 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

But he is still our coach, and it is, unfortunately, still our “system”

good trade idea

might actually be some toughness in that lineup

like it

interesting, for sure…

I’d do it. I don’t think anyone on the roster should be safe from a trade.
