Game Thread #64: Philadelphia 76ers at Indiana Pacers

Philadelphia 76ers at Indiana Pacers, Mar 9, 2010 7:00 PM EST

March 9, 2010 - 7:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Jrue Holiday PG T.J. Ford
Louis Williams SG Brandon Rush
Andre Iguodala SF Mike Dunleavy
Thaddeus Young PF Troy Murphy
Elton Brand C Roy Hibbert

The Indiana Pacers take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight at the Fieldhouse without leading scorer Danny Granger. Been a few games since the Pacers changed their starting lineup so I guess they were due for a change tonight regardless of whether or not it was league mandated.

So how will the lineup be altered? For now, I'll guess Mike Dunleavy takes Granger's spot. Dahntay Jones would help defensively but his minutes have been real sporadic lately. Plus, the Sixers have had success with a smaller lineup, so maybe JOB matches them and lets Murph start at center. Of course, if Philly is small, why not keep Hibbert in there and try to pound it in the post to the big fella?

That’s actually the perfect gameplan for this game. Go in and pound the Sixers with Roy until they show they can stop it. It makes sense, which is why the game plan will consist of free reign being given to Duns, Murph, and anyone with an itch to float around the arc shooting threes like there’s a sale on them.

I actually figured the Pacers were going to win this game, but without Danny, I think the outcome is definitely in doubt now. Should be an entertaining game. I see eight winnable games left including this one, so losing tonight won’t totally suck.

ive thought we shoulda been pounding it down to roy all year

basketball is the most fundamentally flawed game because of how a teams bestplayer can get into foul trouble at the very onset of the contest and completely change the complexion of the game. The best way to get players in foul trouble is to attack inside and whats better to attack with than a 7’2 center? As for tonight I would say uh-oh but the paccers tend to pull something out of their ass when in this situation, so go pacers!

If we’d been doing that all year then we wouldn’t be position to get a top-five pick. Hopefully the next coach will figure out that using a behemoth of a big man can actually yield positive results. But let’s way until next year to find out.

Beautiful

Lets add Free AJ to the back of that bad-boy!

Duns starting? I got that Rage Against the Machine cover running through my head: “I’m sittin’ down here by the campfire light, waiting on the ghost of ol’ Mike Dunleavy.”

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

Haha

Overheard conversation by two of the janitorial night staff: “Woah, what was that…”
“What did you think you just heard sonny?”
“I swear I just heard a ghost clanking around down there on the floor.”
“Clanking? Weeeelllll, that would be ol’ Mike Dunleavy from 3. Kinda scary ain’t it?”

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:09 PM EST up reply actions

Over if it's close

Especially if he feels he can make a difference shooting it. But 18’s a good number, I’m tempted to push.

I'll take the under

It’s a Tuesday in Indy…he won’t care to do anything tonight

Hibby

with a couple nice passes early

Philly announcer:

“Brand really had his way with Murphy last time these teams met.”

It’s not just Brand…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:17 PM EST reply actions

I was playing a pick up game

And was exceptional at Troy Murphy D. Just thought I’d mention that.

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 7:18 PM EST up reply actions

feed Roy

he doesn’t have to shoot to make things happen

by Tom Lewis on Mar 9, 2010 7:18 PM EST reply actions

Hmmm

Pacers with only 1 3-ball attempt so far, shooting 72% with a lot of bunnies around the rim. Missing Danny?

by Tom Lewis on Mar 9, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

Rush still hitting from outside

he’s had a nice little shooting streak going

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

In case you weren't aware coming into the game

It should be pretty clear now neither team is any good. Some facepalm turnovers for Indiana.

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 7:30 PM EST reply actions

Haha

that drive was absolute proof that there is zero defense being played out there!

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:43 PM EST up reply actions

To make these games more fun

We should come up with some kind of checklist. We’d have gotten to cross off “Squandering second chance opportunity with ill advised three pointer.”

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 7:44 PM EST reply actions

Nice

I was just thinking Jrue might get the “career high point total” check tonight

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

Or the popular

Dahntay Jones dribble, dribble, dribble, shoot a 18’

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:47 PM EST up reply actions

I like it

man, 6 Orebs for Philly already.

by Tom Lewis on Mar 9, 2010 7:47 PM EST up reply actions

Interesting question

Who has the highest PPG against Philly: J.O., Chuck Person, or Reggie?

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 7:46 PM EST reply actions

Gotta go with Person, right?

I know JO had a better average than Reggie if you don’t count his Portland stats (Reggie at 17 ppg, and JO at 20 ppg). No idea what Person had back in his heyday.

by spstevenson on Mar 9, 2010 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

That's who I'm thinking

Reggie probably had bigger games than Person, but a few of his years he wasn’t a scoring option even if his Sixers teams were much worse than Person’s or J.O.’s.

FSN with some fishy fact checking...

Says O’Neal lead with 19.5 in 12 games…but I’ve got him at 17.5 for 28 games, 18.8 in 24 if you don’t count playoffs, which I would. Hmm…

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 8:16 PM EST up reply actions

That is fishy

We need a recount!

Roy back in…team starts getting back on track with great plays (involving Roy).

Tied up

Dahntay finishes off the oop.

by Tom Lewis on Mar 9, 2010 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Not much interior defense

for the 76’ers has Dahntay lovin life out there. He has had some good drives tonight

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

Lottery Ad

I do love the PowerBall Banner Ad on the scorer’s table right now with JoB kneeling down in front of it. Playing the lottery. Very fitting.

Add it to the checklist

Ridiculous attempt at a last possession at the end of a quarter. Unbelievable how bad this team is at the final shot. Comical even.

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:07 PM EST reply actions

And that

is why they put padding around the hoop

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:25 PM EST reply actions

76'ers

decided they wanted to “out-slop” us this quarter. So far they’ve succeeded

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:34 PM EST reply actions

This is kinda weird

watching the Pacers with a lead…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:43 PM EST reply actions

Ref's sayin

“you guys want to play like a rec league, we will call it like a rec league.” Lettin ’em play out there…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:45 PM EST reply actions

Roy with a double double

Wonder if he can find the open man in the fourth……

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 8:45 PM EST reply actions

25 assists on 31 FGs

I don’t get why this kind of movement can’t happen more consistently.

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 8:49 PM EST reply actions

a lot of nice play

While it’s nice to see this, of all the games for us to win lately I hope this isn’t it.

by ottoprice13 on Mar 9, 2010 8:51 PM EST reply actions

Oh SNAP!

Kapono sighting? This game is OVER! 76’ers gonna pull this one out! I had no idea they employed our kriptonite

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:52 PM EST reply actions

TJ

1-8, 5 pts, 6 assists, 3 rb’s. Think playing AJ could hurt worse than that? Not me…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:54 PM EST reply actions

I know, I know

and it gets said every game! For some reason it still amazes me…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

Devil's advocate

You think A.J. would have six assists in a game?

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 9, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

No

and that part is nice. But I’m guessing he would have less than 5 facepalms, which TJ has easily had tonight

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

And the Pacers are winning

so I really shouldn’t complain…

by jantz101 on Mar 9, 2010 8:59 PM EST up reply actions

D.Jones showing up Coach

Shots in double team…not smart, haha.

Brandon daggers Philly

Even if he doesn’t, I don’t feel bad about jinxing that.
