Winning Time Open Thread

Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks airs on ESPN for the first time tonight at 9:00PM EDT. Whether it's Reggie, Spike, the Davis boys, Ewing, Starks, the style of play or all of the above and then some, there's plenty to comment on before, during and after seeing this wonderful Dan Klores documentary.

Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Also, may I suggest recording the show for easy access as the current season winds down.

The depressing thing I realized last week is...

This is going to be the highlight of the past 5 Pacers seasons for me.

Pretty excited

The memories will all come rushing back as I watch it, with a huge smile on my face. The NBA’s Last Great Rivalry. The league needs a great rivalry like this again, and I don’t mean Lakers/Cavs fabricated b.s. A legit rivalry between two teams.

Man I miss the physicality of the old NBA

Thinking the same thing about the physical play

Nice to bring back this level without the nasty grind Riley turned it into in the late 90s.

watching this

only has me yearning for the Pacer’s and the NBA to be relevant again. The league is missing this kind of fire.

no doubt

definitely a man’s game requiring some toughness not required now.

Can you imagine the media reaction to a player calling other players choke artists now?!?!

Priceless moment. Once again miss that.

I think the quote was "and John Starks choked"

I loved the part where Reggie totally denied being a trash talker.

Then Ewing gives him the title of “best trash talker ever” after he saw how upset Air Jordan got with Reggie

Right after he said Charles Oakley choaked

Loved it

Wonder if this is a rivalry that can be reignited in some way. I hope so. I miss those. Though it was great remembering being at Game 4 of the 95 series. Still have the towel. Still remember my dad saying “Don’t say what they’re saying.” Which was “New York Sucks!”

Great memories. We need to get back quickly.

From now on..

turn it off during the credits. Never fun seeing that ending. The movie was even better watching it a second time, though. Great times.

I liked how it was done, I will admit

It sucked, but yeah, I did like how it was done. “We Pacer’d the Pacers.”

Oh the nostalgia..

How I miss those Pacers. All of Indiana was behind them.

Season Highlight

I was so looking forward to this and it didn’t disappoint. On paper, 1995 doesn’t seem that long ago but those Indiana flashback scenes were phenomenal!

Please, oh please lottery gods. Show some mercy on us this year. We need to be relevant again.

On some level

it doesn’t even seem like the same game or league we’ve been watching lately.

Although, the pre-Reggie Pacers highlights sure do look eerily familiar to this season. Maybe that means there is some actual hope out there.

When I saw that layup go awry

I laughed. Because the highlights of this team are going to be a lot like those highlights. Sunny days.

I keep thinking the same thing

Almost half of what we saw in that movie would end in suspensions today. How many guys like the Davis’, Oakley, or Anthony Mason play in the NBA anymore or better yet are relevant? Ben Wallace is the only person that comes to mind. There are the Fosters and Varejaos but nobody who really has that “mean” edge.

I agree

I was thinking almost that very thing. Like, “Why don’t we change this team’s identity to that again!?” No one would know how to react if there was a good, physical, defensive team like the Knicks and Pacers today. Love to toughen it up a bit, we’re missing rivalries in this league. Ron Artest had to ruin it for everyone…

by goodlucksaturday on Mar 14, 2010 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Its not.

You can watch a game from 2003 and it looks odd.

The guys really don’t care anymore. They got thing to do after the game. Checks were guarenteed then too but gosh outside of LeBron and Kobe and KG it looks like eveyone is going through the motions.

I'm thinking we will get more years out of the Jackson Jiggle

I think and hope he will be leading the team as head coach next year….

I did feel a little cheap-shotted at the very end.

Bad karma to celebrate the worst call ever, Knicks filmmaker. May you not get LeBron because of it.

Donaghy and Stern quitely loved the ending ....

I’m thinking emmy ….
That was a really good program of a story we yearn to see repeated here in Indy.
