Game Thread #56: Indiana Pacers at Dallas Mavericks

The Indiana Pacers look to complete the Texas Two Step sweep tonight when they visit the Dallas Mavericks.

Danny Granger and T.J. Ford led one of the best offensive games of the season in the Pacers' win at Houston on Saturday night, but since nothing comes easy for the Pacers this season, backing up Saturday's game with another solid offensive effort will be tough for the Pacers tonight. Especially since Danny Granger is tending to a personal matter and isn't with the team in Dallas. Also, T.J. Ford strained his groin finishing off the Rockets and will be a game-time decision.

Meanwhile, the Maverick are looking awfully good following a roster improvement last week before the trade deadline. The team reeks of solid veteran players at every spot with Jason Kidd running things. Then you throw in my favorite veteran sixth man, Jason Terry, bringing it off the bench and this team may not be lethal, but they certainly won't be fun to play in the post-season.

Also, unlike Houston, the new faces have quickly meshed with the team so they're already past the ol' players-trying-to-figure-out-how-to-play-with-each-other phase that most teams have to work through after a big trade.

So with every indication pointing toward a loss for the Pacers, that means they'll probably find something that works and pull off a win. Check out Bruno's Scouting Report.

Ranks are thin tonight huh?

Looks like someone is gonna have to step up.

GLS, do us all a favor and talk some ish about Head before the game tonight, we might need him to go off for 30 again!

Seriously though, this seems like a perfect game for Duns to get back on track, unfortunately I think his knee “jumped the rail” before the season started. Maybe a coming out party for AJ and Roy?

Free AJ!
Feed Roy!

Like your thinking.

I would like to add, someone throw some fireworks under Rush cause he needs to blow up offensively. I’d really like to see Rush take about 12-15 shots tonight, just more than his usual 6-9.

by Sparhawk on Feb 22, 2010 6:12 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed

It would be nice to see Rush have a good offensive game. He is gonna have his hands full with either Butler or Marion on the defensive end tonight.

So maybe Dahntay starts tonight in the SG position, guarding Butler?

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 6:32 PM EST up reply actions

No way D.Jones sees the floor

This guy is in Obie’s doghouse big time. No clue why, but when you’re behind Luther Head on the bench, you did something wrong.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:17 PM EST up reply actions

Well, Head's a bum

If he gets extended minutes and takes those dumb transition threes tonight, we’re screwed. I’m serious about it, but he if he has a good game, that’s cool too.

But know who I really hate? Price. If that kid gets off the bench tonight, I’m going to probably turn the game off and bury myself in the snow.

……..

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:09 PM EST reply actions

Haha

Really though…this game is going to be hard to win. I don’t expect the Mavs to lull out like the Rockets did. Mavs have matchup problems everywhere. I mean, everywhere. We need Danny to play to the level he has the past couple of nights to at least stay somewhat competitive in this one. We’re going to need offense, but I’m not sure where we’re going to get it consistently outside of Danny, assuming we get it consistently from him tonight.

I’ve got a bad feeling about this one.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

Is he really?

I didn’t watch the pregame show tonight, and when i turned it on, they were heading to commercial.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:28 PM EST up reply actions

Oh man

I just got a text saying Josh Howard won’t play tonight. I got excited, then I remembered he isn’t a Mav anymore. Crud.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:22 PM EST reply actions

Yup, no Danny for personal reasons

Hopefully nothing to serious.

We’re screwed tonight. Duns gets the start.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:32 PM EST reply actions

I see now it was mentioned at the top

I read it about four times too. I guess I’m a little preoccupied, haha.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

JOB didn't think TJ would play either

although TJ is suited and booted and warming up with the team.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 8:35 PM EST reply actions

Wells saying TJ will play

JOB did say he had to see how he warmed up.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 8:37 PM EST up reply actions

Oh man

Game’s in high def tonight.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:40 PM EST reply actions

I'm glad the Mavs are playing sloppy tonight

We need it. Even though Dirk is going to probably outscore us the rate the Pacers are playing.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:45 PM EST reply actions

Mannn

Gotta make them pay for leaving Murphy open like that.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:47 PM EST reply actions

Great effort by Brandon

To save the basket…at least temporarily.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:50 PM EST reply actions

Nice

a few years back we used to say Death, Taxes, Creed song on the radio. You could probably substitute for Lady GaGa or Nickleback now…

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

Or Maroon 5...or Kelly Clarkson...

Heck, I’m getting depressed. We’ll just stick with Lady GaGa and Nickelback.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

Haha

I youtubed the Michael Redd commercials once. That was one too many!

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 8:57 PM EST up reply actions

Finally

Got one to fall. Couldn’t type it fast enough before Dallas scores and Indiana clanks another.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 8:54 PM EST reply actions

Early McBobs sighting

You think we can get a “white out” sometime this year?

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 8:59 PM EST reply actions

PG – Diener
SG – Duns
SF – T-Brough
PF – Murph
C – McBobs

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

Never happen

Since we probably won’t see Hansbrough ever again.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 9:01 PM EST up reply actions

Reply fail?

Oh wait, you’re talking specifically about Hansbrough. I thought you were talking about the clankfest. But I guess you could apply that too.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

No

depressing about Hansbrough. I will add the clankfest too. What the heck!

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:08 PM EST reply actions

McBobs

playing pretty aggressively out there. Keep it up big guy!

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Wow

TJ bailed himself out there. I was about to yell at my computer based on his useless dribbling

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:11 PM EST reply actions

McBobs matches up well

with Marion and Dirk, he might get some extended playing time tonight

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Nice finish for McRoberts

Runs the floor and Dun rewarded him with the lob pass.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:19 PM EST reply actions

S'up!

need some good vibes from you tonight. Pacers lookin’ sloppy

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

You picked a good night to show up

No Danny, no shots falling, still somehow a game.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Deshawn Stevenson

Ran into the Great Wall of Roy and is finished.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 9:24 PM EST reply actions

Hit Deshawn

right above his Abe Lincoln

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

Roy picks up #3

Never fails. Tom offers deserved praise on a certain aspect, and he struggles in that very area.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 9:29 PM EST reply actions

No doubt

he’s destined to foul out tonight. ha ha

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

Hmmm

maybe I should start praising JOB for keeping AJ on the bench

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:30 PM EST reply actions

Heh

Clark calls out the “CYO type” plays with all of the jump-pass turnovers.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:34 PM EST reply actions

They're JJT's Tom.

I copyrighted it and everything!

by Gwen on Feb 22, 2010 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

Terry might have “out-badded” some of our passes

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:35 PM EST reply actions

Stevenson with 7 in the first half

gotta be getting close to a career best huh?

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:40 PM EST reply actions

Ugh Earl

My second graders drive me nuts doing that, catching the ball under the rim and then dribbling out and launching a baseline fade away.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:43 PM EST reply actions

Bad news: Pacers down 8
Good news: Second half coming up.

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

Kind of, more like second halves

Last three games, outscored by 36 points in the first half and outscored the opponent by 37 in the second half.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:55 PM EST up reply actions

Sometimes!

Unfortunately, this game seems like it is the Mavs to lose. Like the Pacers are just waiting for the Mavs to go on a run and finish the game

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:57 PM EST up reply actions

Heh

Cuban told Denari and Clark that his game at the gym today was better.

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 9:57 PM EST reply actions

Classic

he probably wasn’t too far off!

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 9:58 PM EST up reply actions

I think I'm going to say the Pacers aren't going away

As opposed to the Mavericks not pulling away. It feels like a good positive right now.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 10:04 PM EST reply actions

Maybe switch back to proclaiming opposites again?

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 10:08 PM EST up reply actions

Pacers

are 17-46 with one offensive rebound. Need some more hustle out there

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 10:04 PM EST reply actions

Pacers are on the precipice

But they’ve probably fallen off the edge already and I haven’t noticed just yet.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 10:09 PM EST reply actions

That's what concerns me

Duns has hit some shots, but he’s not taking over. Rush hasn’t even tried to be effective tonight. Head is still Head.

The fact this game isn’t 35 is the only thing giving me hope.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 10:11 PM EST up reply actions

Well, there's the offense

TJ dribble around until he can get a shot off

by Tom Lewis on Feb 22, 2010 10:20 PM EST reply actions

Look at that

A couple of good possessions, and now within 12.

We probably won’t win, but there’s a chance here.

by goodlucksaturday on Feb 22, 2010 10:21 PM EST reply actions

Getting pathetic

is it too much to ask to put the young guys in? It’s obvious the vets are not getting anything done. Where is Roy, Rush, and AJ?

by jantz101 on Feb 22, 2010 10:34 PM EST reply actions
