Pacers And Bobcats Can't Reach Last Second Deal

UPDATE: Well, that was fun. Mike Wells confirms Charlotte-Indiana deal not happening.

Chad Ford tweets that talks broke down in the last  hour.

Time to free A.J. Price.

-----------------------------------------------------

Tweet from Adrian Wojnarowski:

Charlotte and Indiana is close, but sources say not done. FIve players for now, including Ford and Rush for Augustine, Henderson and Nazr.

Still no cap relief for the Pacers until 2011 (Nazr Mohammed $6.8 mil for one more year) but add a couple of inexpensive young assets and change a little air in the room.

Stay tuned...

Well...

I like Rush, but DJ is good too so not bad since TJ gets moved. Henderson reminds me of Dahntay a little but I could stand to see more of him. Nazr gives Roy another big guy to practice against and is a better backup than Solo. They won’t make the playoffs but it will be nice just to see some new players, personally. If it happens.

Please

Let this deal go through. No cap relief, but Augustine and Henderson are really good young players…and T.J. needs to go. N. Mo is a decent big man too.

We win this trade, but I don’t see it getting done.

aww

This would have been exciting, even if it wasn’t a major move.

I guess

Brandon Rush isn’t the prospect they’re looking for.

by ThirtyOne on Feb 18, 2010 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

What a bummer,

Larry Bird has been quite the killjoy at the trading deadline the last two years. Failing to get a single deal done. Even Jared Jeffries can get his insane contract traded so I’m sure deals were offered to us. At the end of the day I really wish GM’s had to post the trades they reject on the team website for us all to see.

I am kind of happy

that we didnt let go of Rush, I am still holding out hope for him. And we cant get YET ANOTHER dukie!

by captain flitzy on Feb 18, 2010 3:17 PM EST reply actions

And...

if I am not mistaken, didnt Henderson elbow Hansbrough in the face a few years ago? I am like 99% sure it was him, that would be awkward I bet.

by captain flitzy on Feb 18, 2010 3:18 PM EST up reply actions

Rush

Still hopeful for Rush too. Too much of a talent to let go with his rookie contract unless something really nice came through. This deal just wouldn’t have helped us much if at all.

Would

Have given us a nice PG prospect, but I agree w you guys on Rush. I think he’s going to be a better player than people assume.

by Desean on Feb 18, 2010 3:25 PM EST up reply actions

The eternal Rush optimism. It never dies around here.

by ThirtyOne on Feb 18, 2010 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

He’s been playing well as of late…and it’s only his second season…

by Desean on Feb 18, 2010 3:30 PM EST up reply actions

It’s only his second season of pro ball, but he’s spent the last five years being an underachiever.

by ThirtyOne on Feb 18, 2010 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

We was a key player on a National Championship Team

Obviously you didn’t watch that National Championship Team. Or perhaps you didn’t hear at least 5 times during his career from Bill Self that KU needed more out of Brandon and that he lacked confidence.

by ThirtyOne on Feb 18, 2010 10:55 PM EST up reply actions

I watched that team a lot and was never discouraged by Brandon’s play. I’ll be the first to admit that the Rush gene tends to have high talent but lower production. I just think Brandon does a lot of nice things on the court without scoring. He is an athletic long defender with nice leaping ability. His offensive game has been more consistent lately. I just think it’s crazy to say he was an underachiever on a team that won a championship. If you play 30+ minutes a game on a team that wins the whole thing, you’re obviously doing something right.

National Champ doesn’t strike me as an underachieving career…

by Desean on Feb 18, 2010 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

He was

The 3rd best player on that team. What were his stats during his 4 year college tenure?

Agreed there

Rush is looking like his brother, and for where he was drafted, that would a be bust….

by kennythered on Feb 18, 2010 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

Kareem is much shorter and less athletic than Brandon and only could shoot. Brandon is a good defender and rebounder at the guard position.

Rush

Rush has potential BUT……HE NEEDS A COACH THAT CAN DEVELOP HIM! PLEASE GET RID OF JOB AT THE END OF THE SEASON!!! That’s all I ask for our young guys, get someone in there that can develop players….and then I’ll feel better, somewhat

Omg

I would have been ecstatic for this trade! I loved Henderson coming into the draft last summer and Augustine is a very solid young point. Too bad we couldn’t pull it off. :(

Bummer

I’d have liked to see that trade go through.

2 lotto prospects for 1 lotto prospect

The idea is the stockpile young assets and picks. Not keep out 25 win team intact.

Hopefully Larry can use his full mid-level exemption to bring in a screen/hustle guy like Brian Scalabrine. Someone from Boston that can teach everyone how to win.

Brian Scalabrine???

You wanna spend the mid level exception on Brian Scalabrine? Is this Larry Bird posting on here pushing for more crappy white hustle guys You don’t think Hans or Dahntay are hard workers who know how to win? I think it’s time to find some talent.

Look

Larry Bird didn’t have much talent and he won. We need guy who will set picks and hustle. Talent and first round picks are over rated. We just need guys who will buy into the JOB system.

You gotta believe it to achieve it!!!

by aaronb on Feb 18, 2010 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

JOB system? When has that system won ANYTHING in the NBA? Besides posting an over-all coaching record of 272 wins 285 losses with a 14-17 playoff record!! Come on man!! I agree we need ppl with the will to win, however, that you HAVE to have talent to win! What team did you think would be the best in the NBA, Cavs? Lakers? Celtics? Do they come to mind b/c why….THEY HAVE TALENT!!!

And I hope you aren’t saying Bird didn’t have much talent (of the greatest players ever) or the ppl on his team….b/c he def had hall of fame help around him!

by BringbackReggie#31 on Feb 18, 2010 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Red Auerbach...

who is arguebly the greatest coach ever, was calling the shots that time in Boston…..so again, we need talent + a better coach and that will = wins!

Say what you want, but Rick Carlisle as the Mavs as a serious contender in the West (plus a crazy owner, but that’s a different story)

I thought this was a Championship level team assembled this year

With a little luck.

Granger is LeBron without the hype.

Hansboro is basically Bill Laimbeer

Mike Dunleavy shoots awesome 12 foot jumpers

Danthay Jones reminds me alot of Michael Jordan when he was in Washington

Jeff Foster is totally dreamy.

We just needed to stay healthy. Hopefully Bird can find a way to bring in Scalabrine. And maybe trade our first rounder for some vet help.

Keep this core together and see what next year brings!!!! Just gotta believe!!!

Haha alright I was hoping so. I was only questioning cause I’ve heard some crazy stuff from Pacers fans. Some really crazy stuff.

I just get frustrated

It seems like far too much of the fanbase isn’t angry enough by the mismanagement. We also seem to be as bad as any fanbase in grossly overvaluing the guys on our roster. This was such a top notch well run organization for so many years. Such a shame that the owners broke that up to feed the ego of a local celebrity. Imagine the outrage if the Colts gave the keys to the franchise to Jeff George? Basically that is where our Pacers are at this point.

Doing absolutely nothing

Is really the root genius of Larry Birds 5 year rebuilding plan.

C’mon Larry, give us a light please.
