Another scenario for Murphy?

I recently saw this announcement about Leon Powe getting closer to a return for the Cavs.

Star-divide

It sound like a sumbling block in the Murphy to Cleveland trade scenarios is that they don't want to get rid of Hickson. I know Powe obviously has had some serious injury issues. However, when healthy he has proven to be a tough interior scorer and rebounder. He may not have the upside of Hickson but Powe has some untapped upside, plays hard and plays smart. He also appears to have a good skill set to play alongside Hibbert. He also signed a really affordable contract, (2yrs 1.77 mil.) so we would only be on the hook for a little less than a mil. next year.

So what about Murphy for Ilgauskus's expiring contract, Powe and a 1st or 2nd round Draft Pick? We don't get the upside of Hickson, but it seems better than a lot of the alternatives. Especially some of those Kings scenarios involving us taking Udrih back.

A huge Powe fan. To me it’s either Hickson or trade with another team that’s offering better

I like Powe. I think if he is able to fully overcome his injuries he’s worth a look.

I agree he does play hard, but I’d much rather get talent back…Powe has never averaged more than 8 points in a season. Not to mention he’s a 6’8" Power forward with no shooting touch to speak of and not a whole lot of athletic ability. Wouldn’t be completely against him in a blue and gold uni, just not if that’s all we get for Murph.

If he was 25 I’d be down…. but he’s not

He just turned 26 two weeks ago

Hardly an old man. In truth his game is basically a clone game of Tyler Hansboro. Undersized energy guy 4. Not much post game or shooting acumen. Scored on hustle and garbage clean up. Average rebounder.

A useful guy on the roster. Not a guy you use a lotto pick on.

Don't

It’s an easy mistake to make considering he plays like an old man

We got enough role/bench players to last us 5 seasons.

We need high-upside, quality guys. We need 1st rounders (preferably lottery picks) and cap space.

only...

if they were to get a 1st round draft pick, which I doubt cleveland will give up. I would take big Z, Powe, and a 1st round pick.
