Call Me Crazy.... But Here's Another One.........
Nuggets recieve: Danny Granger, Dahntay Jones, and Troy Murphy
Nets recieve: J.R. Smith and Carmelo Anthony
Pacers recieve: Derrick Favors, Sasha Vujacic, Two New Jersey Nets 1st rounders
This is a catapult idea and your approval of this idea will likely rely on your opinion of Danny Granger. But honestly as much as I like Danny..... I'm an all or nothing kind of guy. I don't see us being able to seriously contend for a title with Danny Granger as our best player. We would have four first round picks in the next two years and I say we trade 3 of them for the first overall pick this year and nab Perry Jones or Harrison Barnes. Add one of those players to Derrick Favors, Roy Hibbert, Paul George, and Darren Collison. That could be the scariest potential ever.
This deal also gives us even more free agency money with Vujacic's 5 million dollar contract coming off the books this year (which we would just buy out). Denver gets rid of JR Smith and gets Dahntay Jones back along with Danny Granger and Troy Murphy (that's a pretty scary team with Billups, Nene, Al Harrington, Chris Anderson). Nets get their beloved Melo as well. I think it's a win for everybody.
So like I said, Call me crazy, but if they called I would make this deal.

Verryyy interesting
Would be tough to swallow at first, but if we could turn it around into a John Wall quality pick for next year, plus Favors….
No way it would ever happen though, with the Pacers playing above expectations, at least to major media outlets.
Denver wants Danny
I’ve read that Denver gauged Indy’s interest in parting with Danny should they shop Melo. I think he would ease the pain of losing him quite a bit. However, there are three problems:
a. Denver wants draft picks
b. Melo won’t sign a long-term with New Jersey
c. There’s no guarantee we can flip draft picks for a #1 pick (Perry Jones, Harrison Barnes, etc.)
If Indy were to let Granger go, they too would want draft picks in compensation. I just don’t think there are enough to go around. It would almost necessitate a fourth team willing to give up a draft pick for a young player.
With the moves New Jersey has made recently, it appears they are willing to take the risk in acquiring Melo in the hopes they can convince him to sign a contract with them.
Flipping draft picks for a higher spot has been done before, but there are no guarantees. If we get multiple draft picks from New Jersey (3 of which are owned by Golden State [protected over 3 years], Los Angeles, and Houston) and and they’re getting Melo, I have to believe they become a stronger team that has a chance to fight for the playoffs. The better New Jersey gets, the worst the draft picks become. On top of that, the picks from Golden State (protected), LA, and Houston aren’t going to be lottery picks because the teams are too good or their picks are already lottery protected until 2013.
It’s a pretty risky move for the Pacers, especially since their team is beginning to gel this season. It’s worth considering the closer the trade deadline comes if this current team doesn’t show signs of being playoff bound.

Name a time the 1st overall pick has ever been traded right before the draft?
I can’t think of any… has it ever happened?
other than the completely “never going to happen” trade for a #1 pick… why would Denver do that trade? so they get worse and have no future?
they would have the money saved though
this trade makes them worse and they save no money
makes no since. typical homer trade like usual. at least Josh Smith wasn’t involved this time
Well see, here’s the thing, you would’ve said the same thing about the Darren Collison trade. But it happened. I’m sure you would’ve said it would’ve never happened when the Nuggets traded Marcus Camby for a second round draft pick. But it did. I’m sure you would’ve said those trades for the Magic today wouldn’t have happened. But HEY! Look what happened. You should try and stop being so cynical and think this stuff through…..
We would drop Vujacic before he would ever make it to Indy. Also people need to realize that there’s no way Denver is getting an even trade back for Melo. If they wanna try and win now then this is the best team they’re gonna get. And about trading for a first, well it’s never happened in the NBA I don’t think. I know it’s happened a few times in the NFL. Well okay say we have Denver’sand ours which will both be in the low teens, then chuck in our pick from next year. They have to at least consider that. Maybe we even add on one of their bad contracts to sweeten the deal.
Considering Melo made it very clear that he is only going to be playing to NY after this year, I really don’t see any other team going after him. I could see NY trying to get him this year since they look like a team that can make a playoff push, but they aren’t going to trade anything worthwhile.
I would say that too but New Jersey still seems to be licking their chops. It seems that after they move to Brooklyn that they want a name change and a new color scheme. If they get a hold of him I can see them trying to sweeten the deal by letting him have a say in the ideas and making it his team.
Homeriffic
We get Derrick Favors AND 2 first rounders for Danny Granger? We should ask for 49% ownership of both franchises to sweeten the deal!!!!
" Tell me something Steve, How does a guy from Puerto Rico loose a ball in the Sun? "
I like it
But could one of those teams throw in a new head coach for us? That’d be the best way to sweeten this deal.
