IC Cold Links: Pacers beat Kings, Deron Willilams and the Jazz up next
The Pacers looked all too familiar in the first half last night. It seemed all too much like last year on the defensive end. The game was tied at half, but this year's Pacers showed up once again in the third quarter. They came out hot and fought off Beno Udrih and DeMarcus Cousins, who both had very solid games for the Kings. The Pacers allowed a few mini runs, but were strong and consistent enough to keep the lead and come out with another solid win.
The Pacers now have the task of trying to stop the red-hot Utah Jazz, who currently sit at 14-5. The Jazz have an all around solid team, but it will be interesting to see what they do to stop Deron Williams. Al Jefferson is acclimating to his new team quite well so far, it should be a fun battle to watch down-low against him and the Bash Brothers tandem, Tyler Hansbrough and Josh McRoberts.

we need to put Rush on Williams and let collison guard Bell. williams will shoot over the top of collison and ford all night
We should start Collison on Williams in the begining, if he is getting killed then we switch up
there are just too many elite point guards in the league, we can’t have Brandon Rush guard every one of them, at some point Darren has to fight through it and toughen up against these ‘big boys’.
Once DC learns to effectively stop the point of attack, he will bring the Pacers to a whole new level. Remember the rest of the team is already playing good defense, we just need some consistent stops at the top.

Why not?
If Rush is effective on the bigger PGs, let him take them.
and then who will guard the 6'4"-6'7" shooting guards? Darren Collison?
that will only create more mismatches

Yes, when the teams has a normal sized shooting guard he will need to guard the PGs
but the kings didn’t Head is short for a shooting guard and Evans is taller.
Bell is only 6’5 and honestly… if he is the one taking the shots for the Jazz that is a-ok with me.
There are MANY good pgs in the league, but not many who are 6’3 with a 6’6 wingspan and thick like Williams or 6’6 like Evans.
In fact… I can’t think of any other starting PG’s I would have brandon switch over on. these two are just exceptions due to their size and importance to their teams offense
I will name a few big point guards
Rondo, Rose, Westbrook, Tyreke, Billups, Kidd, Eric Gordon, Walls, Stuckey and Williams. There may be some that i’m not remembering, but we can’t just have Rush guard all of them when we play them, the shooting guards will have a field day like last night where Beno Udrih of all people killed the Pacers.

Ur missing the point. deron and tyreke are big anf I’m not just talking about height. They also play next to sg who are short and not a focal point on offense. And they need to score for their teams to win.
And ur list can be ripped apart in the context of this coversation, but I’m not doin that using a phone lol. To be continued

I love it!
I love the debate we have going on right now….do you think consistency in our starting line ups needs to be taken into consideration? Would taking Rush in and out of the starting lineup hurt this team down the road??….let me know what you guys think…
ur list..
You need to look at the PG, what they do for the team, and who they are paired with. IMO, Rush should only switch over and guard the PG if they are:
a) big/tall and use that to their advantage
b) have a smallish SG and a SG that isn’t a threat
c) primary scorers for their team
using this criteria, the list is mighty small.
Evans + Head or Beno: Huge? check. Primary scorer? check. Small sg who isn’t a primary option? check. there should be no argument for this one… rush should have been on him from the get go
Williams + Bell: Huge? 6’3ish, bulky, long armed check. Primary scorer? check. Small sg who isn’t a primary option? yeppers.. I would let Bell shoot all day for the Jazz.
Rondo + Allen: doesn’t matter who he is paired with. Rondo doesn’t score and doesn’t look to score. He doesn’t use his height that way… he is looking to set others up. Wasting Rush on him would just free up the rest of the team.
JKidd + ??: same as above. Kidd isn’t goign to drop 30 and drag his team to victory that way
Gordon: not a PG
Stuckey: ben gordan and hamilton are much more of a threat. plus I dont’ remember stuckey using his size really but I could be wrong there.
Wall, Westbrook, Rose: these three are interesting. All three play with normal sized shooting guard. And all three are 6’3 ish. What separates them from Williams and Evans, IMO of course, is that they don’t really use their height to score. Williams will shoot over a smaller guard all game long. Tyreke will take them in the lane over adn over. These guys rely much more on their speed, not height, to score. if you have an argument it is here… but switching collison on to those shooting guards on their team though would be suicide
Loving this team right now
Troy Smith is our future
