IC Cold Links: For Pacers, Real Rooks Wear Pink, T.J. Ford Rests Hamstring
The Indiana Pacers touched down in Memphis today after a morning workout at the Fieldhouse. In fact, I know they arrived safely in Memphis around 4:30PM because Brandon Rush led the Pacers' Twitter brigade by announcing the plane's touchdown.
Earlier T.J. Ford mentioned the team's departure which included the Pacers' point guard even though he isn't expected to play in any of the games this week after tweaking a hamstring yesterday.
Speaking of departures, I'll be travelling early tomorrow morning so here are few links of interest, including a nice look at Roy Hibbert. Plus, as Mike Wells mentioned yesterday, Hibbert explains why the rookies will be wearing pink backpacks while the rooks react.
- Caught in the Web: For Roy Hibbert, it is time to start putting all of the hard work he put in this summer to the test.
- VIDEO: Rooks react to the pink fashion accessory supplied by Roy Hibbert.
- Box scores. Beautiful NBA box scores. Eight of them to be exact after the first round of preseason games on Tuesday night.
- The Griz are dragging their feet on picking up Mike Conley's contract extension, but for now he is running the point.
- Real nice preview of tonight's game from 3 Shades of Blue.

Wow!
A T.J. Ford injury, how unexpected. Does anyone know if this game is gonna be televised?

Three Shades of Blue
Honestly, I didn’t care for the Three Shades of Blue analysis and advantage selections re: Memphis and Indiana. I thought the analysis was poorly informed and unduly harsh toward the Blue and Gold. By my count, the match-up is much much closer to even if not in favor of Indiana. Just my thoughts.
Gay over DG?
Gotta disagree there. But everything else I’d probably agree with. Gasol has proven more than Hibbert at this point, and OJ Mayo is definitely a more talented player than Duns.
Pacer
They’re going to be the whipping boys of the NBA this season

Preview
The Grizzlies were a 40-win team last season in a rugged Western Conference who bring all of their core players back. The Pacers are simply an intriguing team with more questions than answers at this point. I don’t have a problem if someone wants to claim the Grizzlies the better team at this point on paper.
There were a few errors in the preview commentary, though. Like Roy Hibbert’s option was extended last week, and it’s “Jeff” Foster not Greg Foster. But that’s getting nitpicky. The reality is the Grizzlies are the better team until the Pacers prove otherwise during the season. And I really like M. Gasol. I believe he’s an unrestricted FA after the season, and I’ve often thought of him as a potential player the Pacers could look at with their heaps of money. The problem is, I don’t think he and Hibbert could play next to each other. Neither really has the versatility to play the 4. If Hibbert shows this season that his ceiling is pretty much a solid 12-and-6 player off the bench, then maybe the Pacers go get M. Gasol to be their starting C next season.
