Inactives for Season Opener
Mike Wells just tweeted that Dahntay Jones, Lance Stephenson, and A.J. Price are inactive for the game tonight. Since they all are supposedly healthy we can assume that these three are the ones on the outside of the rotation for JOB.
It bears repeating that the D. Jones signing was terrible at the time and is proving to be worse now. If you sign a guy for 5 years he shouldn't be the 13th man on your team. I am surprised that A.J. is left inactive tonight. I figured he could at worst be used as an emergency sparkplug off the bench if our offense is struggling. I don't think it's a surprise at all that Lance is inactive.

A.J. Price is a surprise.
I would have thought that JOB would love his shooting too much to let him be inactive. Are you saying that Dahntay Jones was terrible last year? If that’s the case I have to disagree, he was the best SG we had last season. Rush and Dunleavy gave us nothing. But because he can’t hit the 3 he is hated by JOB. Still have high hopes for Stephenson.

I'm saying
that the signing was terrible. If JOB is your head coach you can’t afford to offer a long term deal to a SG who can’t shoot the three. Bird should have know that JOB would have no use for him and that he’d be better off paying someone the league minimum to sit on the inactive list. Why pay someone $4 million a year to be inactive?
Not to be nitpicky . . .
But the only signed him for 4 years. He has two more guaranteed seasons and then a player option for another, which he will likely take. The totals 2.5, 2.7 and 2.9 million. That being said we could probably get roughly the same value for a league minimum salary.

Great coaching .....
It really paid off last night ………..
.
D Jones would have been nice to put some defense on Ginobli
AJ would have been better than TJ
J Foster Stephenson and Solo belong inactive
J Foster’s carrer is over his back is too bad to play anymore
Solo just has no game … miss you Rolle
Stephenson need to be aquitted before he can play ….
I agree...
Except I think T.J played pretty well, he certainly defended Parker better than Collison at least. Although, A.J’s scoring probably would’ve been a nice addition off the bench.

Inactives?
I’m still confused about who was put on the inactive roster for the opener. With Brandon Rush being out for the suspension it doesn’t make sense to have so many players on the inactive roster. I didn’t have an opinion about JOB until lately. Now I, like many, am questioning his decisions. The Pacers played a good three quarters against the veteran Spurs team last night, but were not deep enough to go the distance.
NOthing I have read today about the season opener explains why AJ, Hansbrough and Stephenson were inactive. I can guess that Stephenson is just deemed not ready, but I thought that AJ and Tyler proved in preseason that they are capable of contributing. I’m guessing that AJ said or did something that JOB didn’t like and he is punishing him by putting him on the inactive roster? It just doesn’t make sense to me that TJ Ford plays after just returning from an injured hamstring and being in JOB’s doghouse, and that AJ is on the inactive list. Maybe there is a trade in the works or something? If anyone has an explanation let me know.
Each team can only have 12 players active for each game.
We have a 15 man roster, so there will be 3 inactive players for every game even if there are no injuries. Rush’s is suspended so we can’t count him as inactive, that means we can only dress 11 guys until he comes back. As for why those 3 were chosen to be inactive, that I don’t know.

D. Jones
Oh, I was mistaken. Dahntay Jones was the third player officially inactive. Hansbrough just didn’t play.
A.J. vs T.J.
Mr. Levy: Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t realize that the suspended player counted towards the active roster. So, the Pacers will start out with just 11 players available the first five games. I know that JOB said towards the end of preseason that Lance Stephenson wasn’t up to the level to play, so that is why he is on the inactive roster, I guess. I am not saying I agree, but I don’t know. There is no love lost over Dahntay Jones by JOB, so that is probably why Jones is on the inactive list. So, I guess the big question is why A.J. Price? JOB spoke glowingly (for JOB) of Price for his performance during the preseason. Price has really put in the effort to come back from his injury and seems dedicated to doing what needs to be done to contribute. I guess I’ll have to stick with my original hypothesis, and that they are giving T.J. Ford playing time to try to get him traded? Or does JOB actually think, now, that Ford is the better backup to Collinson than Price? Man, it makes me miss the days when the Pacers’ point guard question concerned Travis Best being a worthy backup point guard or not.
