After Jim O'brien's glowing reviews of Magnum Rolle this summer, I was thinking maybe he was the next Dennis Rodman....
OBrien on the summer Rolle....
"He's so athletic, "He is extremely quick to the offensive glass. Because offensively he's always a threat from 17 feet away, a lot of the offensive rebounds he gets are away from the basket. It's hard to put a body on somebody that quick."
" He has by far been the best player in camp by a large margin."
"He has dominated everything, scored, he's rebounded, he's defended well. He has a surprisingly high basketball IQ. I was a little concerned, coming from a mid-major you know, where he would be as far as picking things up. He has been fantastic!"
"He shoots it really well and pursues every offensive rebound. Without counting, I bet in a half of basketball, I would guess that he had eight offensive rebounds. Against some big NBA bodies."s
So....what has happened to Magnum Rolle?
Well, he had a few preseason DNP CDs and he finally got a few minutes of playing time in the horrific loss to the Bulls. After the loss, O'Brien had this to say about Rolle and co.
"I know who can play and who can't play. I know my rotation already and what it will be. A game like tonight lets people outside the locker room know the reason why some people play and some don't."
In other words, pay attention Larry Bird. Apparently, Rolle can't play. So, Larry, forget what I said at summer camp...thanks for giving the kid a 2 year contract at my request ...but...actually...he's terrible.
Personally, I hope this will help Larry bring the axe down sooner rather than later.
Mike Brown (former Cavs coach) anyone? The OBrien show is very very tired.
