Preseason Game Thread #7: Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls

Indiana Pacers at Chicago Bulls, Oct 22, 2010 8:00 PM EDT

@

3-33-4
October 22, 2010 - 8:00PM EST
United Center
Radio: 93.1FM WIBC TV: No local TV
Probable starters:
Darren Collison PG Derrick Rose
Brandon Rush SG Kyle Korver
Mike Dunleavy SF Luol Deng
Josh McRoberts PF Taj Gibson
Roy Hibbert C Omer Asik

The Indiana Pacers close out the preseason tonight against the Chicago Bulls at the UC. Kyle Korver is expected to return to action tonight for the Bulls, but Joakim Noah is not.

If Danny Granger is healthy enough to go for the Pacers I can't imagine he'll play much. T.J. Ford is still out dealing with a hamstring injury.

No local TV, but Mark Boyle and Slick Leonard provide hi def visuals with their radio call on 93.1 FM or NBA.com. The game is being televised in Chicago so it may be on League Pass.

Working tonight so I won't get to see this one

As always I look forward to reading game comments on here! The season is right around the corner, this will be our last look at Magnum and Lance for awhile, hopefully they get a chance to show some stuff tonight. Go Pacers!

I just hope that Stephenson gets on work release so that he can at least play the games in NY with us. . .

by daledavis on Oct 22, 2010 7:15 PM EDT reply actions

So...

Magic/Heat game has been cancelled cause the floor is wet.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 7:58 PM EDT reply actions

Granger and Ford will both sit tonight

No reason to play them right now. Be interesting to see how Ford gets shuffled into the rotation.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

ugh, directv channel 755 is not working. hope they fix it before tip.

by krayyy on Oct 22, 2010 8:06 PM EDT reply actions

I'm not out of line

To ask who the hell Omer Asik is, am I?

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:08 PM EDT reply actions

Stephenson

First shot: Blocked. By Rose.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

Mike gets foul #3

May be a short night for him.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:19 PM EDT reply actions

McBobs follow up

After Hibbert seemed to get excited how easy it was to move past Asik.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

Stephenson heading to the line

Halfway through the first. 15-12 Chicago. Some defensive issues in the sense of fouls especially, and why not keep up the turnover concern?

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:24 PM EDT reply actions

Poor boxing out

Chicago getting every rebound they want.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:27 PM EDT reply actions

Price and Hansbrough in

With Stephenson, Hibbert, and George. I think some people would like this to be the lineup all night.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

George with two fouls already

Deng is destroying the Pacers defense. Heading to the line for FT seven & eight.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:30 PM EDT reply actions

George stops the bleeding

With the putback. Pacers down 10 thanks to a 10-0 Bulls run.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:34 PM EDT reply actions

15 now

10-10 from the line.

TEN FOR TEN FROM THE LINE.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Scalabrine isn't a Celtic still?

Guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I didn’t know Morrison didn’t resign with the Lakers.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:35 PM EDT reply actions

One done.

Bulls up 32-17.

Deng has 15.

Pacers shooting somewhere between 5% and 7% from the floor with 25 TOs and 2 rebounds.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

30-2-7

Only two TOs?

Interesting.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Rush gets beat by Korver

So he returns the favor. Do it, Brandon.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:42 PM EDT reply actions

Pacers making a mini-run

Thanks to Rush and Hansbrough.

Getting stops and converting on the other end. Finally.

This is Chicago’s second unit though.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

Pacers down ten

Collison and Hibbert leading the way offensively.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:52 PM EDT reply actions

Mark can't even explain what's happening

Before the Bulls are fastbreaking to an easy bucket.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 8:57 PM EDT reply actions

Sounds like the guys need to settle down and focus on one basket at a time.

When we have the ball, focus on getting off a good shot, and following up if it misses. When we’re on defence, focusing on your man and making sure you don’t lose him.

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

It's a little frustrating, I think

They’re not playing sharp at all.

Posey gets drilled by James Johnson on a long shot because, as Slick put it, “Posey was afraid to get on him for fear of him going around him.”

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Kroger commercials

Are more grating than the Michael Redd ones.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:00 PM EDT reply actions

Totally agree. I can’t stand the Indiana Credit Union commercials either.

by Captain Crunch on Nov 10, 2010 12:56 AM EST up reply actions

Rebounding effort summed up:

Roy Hibbert – 17 minutes, 1 rebound.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

Could almost turn the second half into a "who gets cut game"

Turn to those guys who are on the cusp of getting dropped from the roster and tell them “you have 24mins to go out there and show me why you shouldn’t be dropped from this Pacers squad”

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

I think it's down to Magnum and Solo

No way D.Jones or Lance get cut.

Shame Magnum and Solo play the same position, but with this game already out of reach, it’d be a good time to see them get a quarter of action, see who is out.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Chicago up 59-38

I’m trying to find something in the box score the Pacers have the advantage in.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:08 PM EDT reply actions

Yuck

What the heck is this? I hope for a better second half. I am heading to Krogers.

by Ejay Lawyer on Oct 22, 2010 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

Let's see...

25-15 rebounding deficit, 20-7 FTA deficit (19-6 FTM), 9-4 turnovers, Pacers 2-10 from the three point line, 48-38 FG%. Roy is 2-8 from the field (4-4 FT). Foster leads team with three assists.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:12 PM EDT reply actions

I need a drink listening to this game

But I can’t tell if it’s the game itself or the commercials.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:21 PM EDT reply actions

Quarter just started

Deng has dropped five in the 3rd. No answer.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:25 PM EDT reply actions

Duns update:

Bruised knee. Questionable return. No reason to have him back, so that’ll be his night.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Ah poor George

Looks like Deng is running a school for him. Should be good experience for him though, as it shows that if you don’t defend well you get lit up for everyone to see

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Team finally has a good offensive possession

Second and third chances end up in a Lance layup.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

why is hibbert so weak at the basket???? I DONT GET IT

by krayyy on Oct 22, 2010 9:38 PM EDT reply actions

dude should be steppin over everyone

by krayyy on Oct 22, 2010 9:38 PM EDT up reply actions

Posey gets charged with a tech.

Must not have liked the travel called on George.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:41 PM EDT reply actions

Rush in on Deng

Maybe he’ll make me look right defensively, haha.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:46 PM EDT reply actions

Chicago 83-58

Pretty nondescript performance. I think they’re looking forward to Wednesday.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

Rolle anyone? Give the guy a chance to perform

1 quarter to see him in action is what we want. We already know Solo can do zip

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 9:51 PM EDT reply actions

The Pacers need a Dale Davis type of PF...

If Indiana dosen’t make a trade for some interior defense and rebounding help, it’s going to be a long season.

by gut19 on Oct 22, 2010 9:53 PM EDT reply actions

I think McRoberts is doing alright at the PF

Hibbert is the one that should be grabbing most of the boards though. He’s got the height over McBob

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions

What we've got with Roy

Is what we’ve got with Roy in terms of rebounding. He’s never been a rebounder, and I don’t think he ever will be, save for a big game every so often.

A Dale Davis type of rebounder, tenacious, high percentage scorer is what we need. It’s what Josh could be, but he’s not looked too good the last couple of games.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I have the same sick feeling.

another long disappointing season. I try to stay positive but down almost 30 to the Bulls is hard to swallow.

by IndyDan on Oct 22, 2010 9:55 PM EDT up reply actions

Know what's not hard to swallow?

A beer. I need one.

But I’m going to remain positive on this effort. I’m going to assume they’re looking past this one. It’s a terrible effort by everyone. Even George seems to be coasting. I don’t know if that’s ominous, but I’d be surprised if this is how much better the Bulls are from us. They’re going to be good. But they’re not 30 points better.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 9:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Beer?

I’ve had several, in this case it doesn’t help.

by IndyDan on Oct 22, 2010 10:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Man

That’s bad to hear, haha.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

To be fair

Solo hasn’t gotten any time tonight either.

I really don’t know where the team goes with this cut.

Rangers up 5-1. Yankees in some trouble.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:02 PM EDT up reply actions

I know George has had a rough day

But 9 boards! Good stuff from the guy working on the glass. He should at least be praised for that

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 10:11 PM EDT reply actions

Slick pleading the fifth

On who’s going to be the roster cut.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

Stupid turnovers for the Pacers

Over 20 for the game. Over 20 per for the preseason.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:15 PM EDT reply actions

Rolle airs the follow-up

Crowd excited now…Pacers not responding to that well at all.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:17 PM EDT reply actions

101-69

What an ugly score. Yuck.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:17 PM EDT reply actions

Team missed Dunleavy's contributions as well

I’ll take 14 from Hibbert and Collison on most nights. Though Roy needs to do better than 5-16.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Geesh

I would have put in more effort than what I saw my Pacers put in tonight and I am a 5’7 white lawyer. Aye yay yay.

by Ejay Lawyer on Oct 22, 2010 10:19 PM EDT reply actions

Price beats the buzzer on the three

102-74 final.

Lack of effort tonight that I wouldn’t worry too much about it, but we will have to worry about turnovers, poor shooting, and defense, to be fair. They were dreadful tonight, they’ve been dreadful all preseason.

by Nathan S. on Oct 22, 2010 10:22 PM EDT reply actions

George shot poorly tonight

2-14 including 0-6 from downtown. He also had 5 fouls and 6 turnovers.

However, he did have 10 boards, 4 assists, and 3 steals.

In my opinion, he still starts at SG for the season opener.

by TeamVPR on Oct 22, 2010 10:25 PM EDT reply actions

It's just a preseason game - sure

but the season starts in 5 days and we should be ramping UP not down! This was just plain sad. Got the Spurs opener coming up in a few days and we still don’t have a solid starting 5. Pathetic game.

by IndyDan on Oct 22, 2010 10:28 PM EDT reply actions

George had a poor shooting night but...

at least he was very aggressive on the defensive end. He got his hands on alot of deflections.I think with a little more time playing in the NBA, he’s going to be a very solid player.

by gut19 on Oct 22, 2010 10:30 PM EDT reply actions

Ummm

I want the Stephenson I saw in Summer League. So, can’t the rest of the real NBA dumb it down a bit so we can have that guy?
