Kiss T.J. Goodbye

Well I've gotta get a new Pacers jersey. The "Ford #5" will not be seen on my back anymore and if Larry has it his way then it won't be seen on any of the players either. After seeing no ball movement and terrible jump shooting from the Texas PG Jim O'Brien had just had enough. Ford was benched after the first half of the Memphis game (12/30/09) and still hasn't seen the floor since even after the next game against the T'Wolves (1/2/10) even though he was dressed to play. Instead O'Brien started Earl Watson and backed him up with the rookie 2nd rounder A.J. Price.... Oh and we finally won after an 8 game losing streak... Here's the equation

Troubled Franchise+Starting PG with a -203 on his plus/minus+Using a 2nd round rookie instead+Trade Rumors= Goodbye T.J. Ford

P.S. Speaking of +/-'s, Troy Murphy has a whopping -227 in only 24 games, that's pathetic.

(Plus/Minus is gauging the performance of a team when a certain player is on the floor.)

fire JOB sign Byron Scott

and try to trade for Chris Paul
Maybe a 1st round pick, Troy Murphy, and Tj Ford.
not 100% sure, but I think the salaries match up, and a 1st round pick.
Murphy’s expiring contract leaves the Hornets with 11 million coming off the cap next year along with 2 first round picks. That’s a deal they might actually consider?

I wish this were possible

But I don’t think the Hornets get enough in return for what will be one of the five greatest PGs ever. They’re nearing a juncture where they need to either cut ties with him or build very quickly (which is going to be hard for them), but like with most trade rumors involving big name players, wouldn’t that other team want Roy Hibbert? I’m not suggesting we give up the deal on Roy’s behalf, but I think New Orleans would do a heck of a job trying to fleece our role playing corp that it might be a bit…eh to get an all-world player heading into his prime if we have to lose our pretty decent depth.

Or really, would the Hornets want expirings and a first rounder (plus maybe a second first round pick) and not want someone like Granger in return? No doubt Paul > Granger. But Paul + Granger sounds a hell of a lot more appealing than a still frustrated Paul running with a similar posse he’s got down in NOLA. Err…a crappier posse.

It’s frustrating how little we really have to barter. Sadness.

well...

the Hornets just traded Chandler for Okefor, they don’t need Hibbert.
I would think if anything the Hornets would say they HAVE to get Granger in the deal.

Fire job- yes please

hire byron scott- no… why do we want another retread coach?

trade for chris paul- would only happen in a video game… and even then the hornets would reject anything we would offer lol

I don't think this is true.

Goodlucksaturday made a good point. They are at a juncture, they have to decide to trade him or build NOW, we might get lucky.

If you want to fire JOB too, then who would you hire that you think is better than JOB? I’m going to make a new fanpost about this.

B-Huse, you and me both...

I gotta find a replacement for my O’Neal jersey. I’m holding out until someone besides Granger looks to have a long-term stay here!

I liked your mathematical equation too. Now the tough part, selling TJ to another team!

Selling T.J.

Thanks for the replies guys. Now if you wanna get rid of T.J. there’s a coupls ways you could go. I’m gonna say right now that if you think the Hornets can’t get more for Chris Paul… keep thinkin lol. The only possible way we could get a hold of him would be in a move that sends Danny back to his home town of New Orleans. But another hurdle resides… Chris Paul has what’s called a “Base Year Compensation” attached to his contract that makes moving him nearly impossible until July 1st of this year.

The best thing I’ve got for you would have to be T.J. Ford to the Kings for Kenny Thomas’ final year contract. If the Kings are looking to move Tyreke Evans to shooting guard then T.J. may be there best option at the one spot. This move is strictly cost-cutting but it seems we’re better without T.J. and we could use a cash break. Anyone else got some trade ideas? Golden State looooves point guards……

GS trade

The Warriors have been rumored to be using Anthony Randolph as a carrot to get some team to take Corey Maggette’s contract. What about TJ and Brandon for Maggette and Randolph. The Pacers would be giving up some cap flexibility, Maggette has 2 more years on his deal than TJ does, but would be getting a great talent back in Randolph.

I know that Randolph and Danny got into it a bit earlier this year, but I’ve seen a few Warriors games on league pass and Randolph is the only player that consistently tries on the Dubs. He’s a nonstop energy guy that gets alot of opponents frustrated because he won’t step down. I think the guy has a good chance to be really special, and he’s definitely a player that you love when he’s on your team, and hate when he’s on the other side.

Every player on this roster should be on the block

No body should be exempt on this roster. This includes Granger.

Trade Granger?

You have got to be kidding me? Granger is an amazing player, loves playing in Indiana, and he’s a leader on and off of the court. Get another piece to the puzzle. Get rid of Foster, Diener, Murphy, Ford, Watson, Head, Solo Jones, Rush, Dunleavy, and ship Price off to the D-League where he belongs. Granger is putting up thirty almost every night, hitting game winning shots, and most importantly LOVES to play in Indiana. Considering that I’ve named almost every player on the 09-10 roster, where the Pacers need to start is getting rid of the talentless hacks posing as NBA players (Dunleavy excluded, but still injury prone). We need players that will get boards, play defense, and most importantly play consistently. Bird and JOB need to go for putting together one of the three worst teams in the NBA right now after rebuilding for three seasons.

Send A.J. to the D-League? Last night he looked pretty darn good and made smart plays despite his lack of playing time. Better plays then T.J. has made. Plus, Head has been one of our few real high points over the last two weeks.

by B-Huse on Jan 6, 2010 2:31 PM EST up reply actions

I agree...but still inconsistent

Are these guys you want to build a franchise around?

by wrdavisjr on Jan 7, 2010 2:46 AM EST reply actions

I feel Head is actually a really good player to have on the bench when u need some instant offense. He may be small but offenses just work better with his scoring ability and movement without the ball. Price… the juries still out on him. All I know is we need a athletic defensive 4 next to Hibbert. Murphy can’t play D and so Roy gets fouls and loses his confidence. That’s why I think he was doin so well when all the white guys were hurt and Danny was playin power forward. Then with a big force in the middle more, our offense and defense flowed… then troy came back….
