Pacers Sign Dahntay Jones

Pacers sign Dahntay Jones to a 4yr deal worth 11million. Solid back up for Rush, hes a good defender who will get better over time and hes pretty cheap. I like where the Pacers are headed at this point. Hopefully we sign Jack, and go after another free agent, possibly David Lee?  He doesnt seem to be getting too many offers, I know he averaged a double double last season not too sure on his D though. Could be a good line up especially if we us Tyler in the wing as grangers backup, also Hibbert is showing some inprovement in the summer league. I know its the summer league and Im not going to hold my breath, but hes been good in the post with his moves and position. GO PACERS I cant wait for next seasonSolid back up for Rush, hes a good defender who will get better over time and hes pretty cheap. I like where the Pacers are headed at this point. God, I hate Bird so much.

Dahntay Jones is so &$%!# terrible. Everytime I watched him play for the Nuggets I literally screamed at my television wondering why the $%# he was on the floor. Damn it all. I really may switch teams.

Dude

Calm down. He’s making a third of what we paid Jamaal Tinsley last season to just stay away from the team. At this point, aren’t we happy that any players are signing with the Pacers? I mean, he is what he is…a good defender and hella athlete with some decision-making problems and a suspect jumper. He was a solid role player for a team that made it to the Conference finals. That’s more than any of the people from our current roster can say, right? Plus, he’s really cheap. It’s not the end of the world.

I have to agree that Jones is pretty bad. I’m really not sure how Denver made it to the playoffs with this guy starting at the two guard for them last year. He can’t shoot, turns the ball over, doesn’t rebound well for his position and doesn’t rack up any assists. In fact his PER is below 10 which is very, very bad. He better be playing lock-down Bruce Bowen type defense to justify getting minutes, and I don’t think he has that in him.

Lee is a horrible defender but is a double double machine. but hes expensive and restricted as well

Good signing but...

Contract’s a little long, no? As for Lee, he’s almost as bad as Troy Murphy on D, and it sounds like the Knicks will match anything up to $10 mil for him.

Decent player.

I think Jones will really help us from a skills standpoint. We don’t need him to put up 15 points a game. He will be a solid defender that can get to the hole on offense. My only hesitation is the “dirty” plays that he surrounded him self in towards the end of the season. He shoved kobe in the back on a dunk and then intentionally tripped him later in the same series. I just don’t want a mini Ron Ron!

Anyone who shoves and then trips Kobe is alright in my book. Remember Reggie Miller himself once took a swing at Kobe.

15-20 minutes a game at best

yikes. i would much rather have signed marquis for a little more $$. maybe bring an unproven player up from the d-league for the league minimum, because all he’ll be doing is playing d. if i recall, kobe burned him pretty good. if brandon or danny get hurt, this guy can’t carry ANY type of scoring load.

Just remember that Kobe is the best player in the world

and can burn anyone

Anyways I think it is a decent signing. He can play good D, and is a great athlete. Last year we didn’t struggle scoring the ball did we? No, what hurt us last year was defense and picking up defensive minded players is what we need to do this offseason

You just can't make

some fans happy it seems. Jones is not the missing piece to the title puzzle, but what he gives the team a solid defender. And bad decision making?? See T.J. Ford. I don’t think he’s a dirty player either. He made a dirty play but he was trying to win a ring. I pray the rest of the team adopts that mentality. And if I hear one more thing about PER…seriously people that is a nifty stat but in no way does it tell you how good a player is. If i played two minutes a game I’d have a great PER too, but stretch me out to 48 and I’m a scrub…the reality is basketball is not a mathematical equation. Players perform differently in different situations. Travis D. has a great PER…but let’s be honest he’ll never start. Jones is getting paid to play D…which is more than I can say for a lot of the team.
Please, please, please stop complaining. Or find another team to root for. Please.

Totally

And when we get that missing piece(s) to the title puzzle in two years, we will have a cheap lockdown wing defender, a piece every championship team needs. Larry is starting to put the pieces together, we are just gonna have to wait a few years. At least now we have a team that can contend every night and is fun to watch.

I love this signing

Some D and some intensity is exactly what we need. He also doesn’t seem afraid to take the ball strong to the basket – something we are missing on the wing. Do we have anybody on the team who is going to do this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLMX5U0pcFA

You are right. Some fans will always find some reason to dislike a signing or a trade. Short of trading Tinsley straight up for Kobe or signing LBJ for the mid-level exception, somebody will complain.

WOW

If he does that and plays defense…hello playoffs. That was a DUNK
