Pacers sign another Jones

So does this mean no sign and trade with Marquis Daniels?

http://www.indystar.com/article/20090725/SPORTS04/90725012/1088/Solomon+Jones++Pacers+agree+to+2-year+deal

The Pacers have agreed to terms with forward Solomon Jones on a two-year deal, a source told The Indianapolis Star.

The terms of the deal were not known as of Saturday afternoon.

Jones, entering his fourth year in the NBA, is a 6-10, 245-pound forward.

Shucks

Sure would have liked another wing player. Start of the season it’s looking like the only healthy wings are Rush, Granger and Dahntay Jones.

Don’t know much about Solomon; maybe he’s a hidden gem. But barring a trade I’d say this team’s still pretty thin at the twos and threes.

Maybe Ford will pair up with Watson like he and Jack did at times last year, and the team’s three healthy wings can take turns with depth at SF. But if they really only keep 14 like they say, without a trade this is the last move.

I’d say not necessarily does this rule out the sign and trade with boston.

we cleared room with the tinsley deal, could have given that up here, might still have room for acquire players if the price is right

I think this is another good, solid pick up. Nothing spectacular, but we are financially limited this season. I see another free agent signing (maybe Rodney Carney or Luther Head or both??) Either one of those guys would help shore up the wing.

Agreed

On the wing front. That’s my biggest concern. Looks like a lot of small ball until Duns comes back. And that doesn’t exactly work well for our franchise player.

I’m not sure what the scouting report on Solomon Jones is, or what he can offer, but I assume he has something. The only thing that stands out to me from his stats is his WS, which was 1.9 last year, not great, but seems pretty high for a player of his minutes and games played last year. If he’s a guy who wins you games but doesn’t do anything, hey, I’ll take it.

I don’t think this means anything to the sign and trade. Just a player we were looking at and wanted to get for the team. I’m interested to see what he’ll offer us. Am I the only one thinking that this signing, along with McBeard’s new contract just kind of opens the door for Jeff Foster’s departure? It just feels like that’s inevitable.

If we're lucky

it might be opening the door for the departure of Murphy’s ungodly contract. The question then is, who are we getting back? Whether it’s Foster or Murphy, both guys make a decent amount of money so we could theoretically get back a pretty decent wing player (or PG?). what’s next???

"If you don't [draft me], I promise you I'll come back and kick your ass for the next 15 years."

so....

is there no possibility at all of the pacers resigning Daniels? I’m not sure how the situation is contractually at this point with Boston, how much it’s a sure thing that he HAS to go to Boston? now that he has agreed to go there, does this mean he HAS to go there? Or can he opt to come back to Indiana for a smaller contract?

Daniels is gone, he doen’t HAVE to go to Boston but it is all but a done deal.

Sorry

I’m afraid you’re going to have to let go of the notion that Daniels is coming back. He has no intention of coming back. He’s agreed to play for the Celtics for as little as $1.9 mil a year. What about that verbal commitment screams Pacers loyalty? I’m sorry. It’s time to move on.

Exactly, I’m sure we would have offered better than 1.9 million for him to stay. He is giving Boston the contender’s discount. He played hard for us though while he was here, and you can’t fault someone for wanting to win a championship.
