IS TROY MURPHY THE REAL DEAL?
Or should he be traded?
O>K pacer fans Im back with Probably tht most important question of our upcoming season. How good is Troy Murphy? Is he the second best player on our team?Should we trade him?Or is he a building block for our franchise? Is he in the top 10 PowerFowards in the league? Does his shooting makeup for his lack of a post game? I"m just putting it out there for all my fellow pacers let me know how you feel?

If Murph
Is the second best player on our team, we are in really big trouble.
Murphy is what he is, and what he can be is what you saw in him last year. Considering he’s had about three nearly identical season in Golden State (minus the 45% three point stroke) and he gets praise for a “career year” this past year, it’s pretty safe to say he’s not going to be getting any better.
That said, his value is highest right now. If not right now, then pretty close, because it’s possible his value may have been higher (to the Warriors) when they signed him to this absurd albatross deal when he had one of those identical seasons at the end of his rookie contract. If someone is willing to eat his contract AND give us something of equal value that is cheaper in return, we should do it immediately. Unfortunately, the market doesn’t seem to be clamoring for 6’11" PFs who can shoot the lights out and rebound with the best in the league but can’t play a lick of defense and isn’t a reliable scorer.
He’s only a building block if the price is right (i.e. very low). He can produce, but he’s not going to be worth much to this team when you’re aiming for Hansbrough and maybe even McRoberts in the future PF spot, not when both will be entering their primes as Murphy will be hanging out at 31 or 32.
His shooting strokes makes up for his lack of post game as often as it doesn’t. Having a big man who can stroke it as well as Troy is very useful, but not having a banger down low is going to hurt you just as much. Not to mention he’s a terrible defensive player anyway, post or no post.
Ultimately, Murph is a double edged sword who can do very good things, but also is built to deliver the same amount of bad in return. He’ll be a Pacer for two more years, so if you like him, enjoy the time you’ll get to spend watching him, because he’s not a long term fixture for this team.
What no body is talking about...
is there were a TON of stats to be had this year. With the Pacers high-scoring/no defense approach, people were going to fill up the stat sheet. Brandon did not capitalize on the opportunity early, but came on late. Dunleavy was gone. Granger missed a little bit of time. Foster is an offensive virus. Baston and Diener might have been better off hanging out with Tinsley. Basically what I am getting at is that I really realy think that Muphy was a product of our system. He can rebound, no doubt he can pull, but is he the second banana on a good playoff team? No way, especially not these days. I would love to get rid of him on a high right now, because like you said, his value wont get any higher.

The cap is coming down next year
I really think we are going to try and move him now. The huge season last year has made him a strong bargaining chip this summer. I can see him moved hopefully for an expiring contract and young talent.
Although, I wouldn’t mind if he stayed he works well in the Pacers offense because it suits his game perfectly.
Agreed with everyone
He’s a good player in that he’s great at some stuff at horrible at other stuff. Unfortunately, the stuff he’s horrible at are pretty important for a PF. His best situation would be to play with a Center who is a beast down low so he can get out of the way. Playing with Dwight Howard would be great for Murph, Hibbert? Not so much.
His value really can’t get any higher except maybe as an expiring contract. His numbers can not get any better. Shots were available and he got them. It would really be great if we could get something decent for him ASAP.
"If you don't [draft me], I promise you I'll come back and kick your ass for the next 15 years."
I agree but,
Murphy has no value on the trade market. We are fooling ourselves. No one else would want him with that huge contract. He’s a product of JOB’s run-and-gun. I guarantee he won’t be dealt until the final year of his contract, if at all. I dare Larry Bird to prove me wrong on this one.
Murphy
TMurph is a fine player as everyone says, it is true that his value is really up, but moving him is like moving Tinsley. I guess we should just wait for them to expire.
