Jack: "I owe the Pacers"

This is more commentary than anything...

Today on The Dan Dakich show, Jarrett Jack called in from working out at Georgia Tech.

Dan went on to tell him that because he was working out and not at a casino (Like Travis), this is why he is our starting point guard. It is really good that the players get along so well, and can give each other a hard time. That really shows that things have turned around in the locker room.

Now onto the serious stuff...

Jack was asked if he'd like to return to the Pacers next season, and Jarrett replied,

"I owe it to the Pacers...they gave me a change where in other places I didn't get an opportunity."

Jack went on to say that he has a tough "contract battle" starting July 1st. In my mind I really don't want to see or hear the words battle and contract in the same sentence, especially from a player.

So in this sense I am glad he wants to remain a Pacer. Jack arguably was one of the hardest working guys we had on the floor last year outside of Granger.

Well, I know it's been a while. I hope you all welcome me back in good spirit!

Glad your back .... Duke

Jarrett Jack is a professional and I believe that he knows his best chance at success will be here with the Pacers. He is a back up PG (albeit a high level backup) that was given a chance to start and prove his worth. I doubt he gets an offer over $5 million a season and that means he is going to stay an Indiana Pacer because Larry will match that offer.

Thanks.

I believe Jack is worth what you are giving him.

The Pacers just need to make him the qualifying offer ($2,899,798).

That way we retain restricted FA rights and if another team doesn’t make an offer, we’ll get him for one more year at a reasonable price.

Yes

Pretty much like the JOB issue. Just let it play out.

Great interview

Jack is such a quality dude. Loved his comments about filling out a scantron sheet again.

agreeing with everyone else

I would love to see Jack back in a Pacers uniform. He’s really turning into a well rounded guard. If he can cut back turnovers and improve some on D he could be an important contributor for years to come. Hopefully no one else in the league is thinking the same thing.

and

with so many potentially good PG’s in the draft, that might make it easier to retain Jack as teams will look that way for help.

Good point

Keeping Jack also gives us a point guard who hasn’t yet reached his full potential but will not be a bust. Resigning him would be, in my opinion, our first round PG pick. Get the deal done, focus on some other areas of need in the draft

Yeah and I’m not sure why but Jack feels older than he is. I often forget that he’s just 25 and has plenty of time to grow into his potential in the prime of his career.
