Blair, Lawson, & Carroll Red-flagged For Injuries + Notes
According to ESPN's Chad Ford, it looks like bad times for some of the Pacer's potential draft targets.
Foremost among the troubles is many Indy Cornrows' members favorite target, DeJuan Blair. Apparently during combine medical testing both Blair's knees are so bad some have described it is "devastating," and at the mildest "troubling." He tore both ACLs in high school. The last notable big guy to have to knees red-flagged is probably Greg Oden. Yeah... Ty Lawson (toe) and Missouri's DeMarre Carroll (unspecified) have also been red-flagged.
In other disappointing news, Gonzaga PF/C Josh Heytvelt apparently looked "awful" and "disinterested" and fellow Zag (and current ESPN.com mock draft pick for Indy) Austin Daye has looked terrible in scrimmages (and weighed in at less than Lawson and Flynn; about 30 lbs. less than Durrant coming out.)
Oh and apparently we're looking at Tyler Hansbrough as a possiblity at 13 now because he had crazy athletic numbers at the combine. This of course is dumb because he NEVER looked athletic in-game and routinely got schooled anytime he had to face an elite big in college.
Gah...this draft is looking bleak.

a 6’5 300lber having bad knees? no way!
i swear to god if we even consider hansborough………

This combine is a bad idea
If Hansborough shoots up the board because of “crazy athletic ability” in a combine atmosphere. Was all that lack of “crazy athletic ability” in 100+ games at UNC not proof enough?

Brandon Jennings is your next Pacer.
- 13 …. stock is dropping mainly because is not competing in these pre-draft camps and is playing playoff basket ball in Rome …. extreemly fast, great defender, good enough to skip college and grow up in Rome playing professional ball … He seems to beso focused on basketball he opted not to fake grades, victimize girls, or having future scholarship taken away from a program … because he was the #1 player coming out of high school 2 years ago

if jennings falls to the pacers and we get him I would flip the F out… that would be awesome.

Hey...it basically happened last year with Bayliss...

It does feel strangely deja vu
Though I’d like to keep him if he falls to us and we take him. I wouldn’t want to trade him to Chicago for Ty Lawson and Aaron Gray.
I was thinking Ty Lawson and Tyrus Thomas, but I don’t think I’d mind that at all…
But I would certainly enjoy having a product like Brandon Jennings here. He’s the closest thing to a game changing player in a weak draft you can hope to find at 13. I only hope Bird doesn’t shut him out for being a bit of a project right now, but with our point depth (as much as we/they may not care for it), I wouldn’t mind having a project like him.

Ummm....I don't think the Bulls need a PG.
There’s this kid named Derrick Rose. Maybe you’ve heard of him?

Yeah
It was just a general statement, not a “Chicago wants him!!!” statement. Point is, I don’t want to pick him up for another team to trade for Ty Lawson (or someone similar) and some slightly better than average player who will have a decent year because we don’t have a true player at that position. I’d love to have the freakishly athletic point guard in the blue and gold.

yeah, get him and trade him
to the Blazers… I’d be ok with that.

Yeah I'd be pretty happy with him falling to us
He’s a bit of an unknown since we don’t get to see him play and he had trouble getting minutes in Italy but the kid’s got undeniable talent and could be a great addition.

Anyone heard anything about the Pacers possibly holding more workouts?
I mean, they haven’t brought hardly anyone of stature in so far and no PGs at all. Maybe they’re content with seeing guys at the bigger group workouts/combines, but it still strikes me as odd.

Well nevermind...kind of...
Just saw the Indy Star articles adressing it, though still no mention of PGs or any player of caliber other than James Johnson of Wake. It seems odd that all the workouts so far have seemed to focus more on players who probably aren’t going to get drafted at all, with most of the best players we’ve brought in being 2nd round prospects.

yeah it seems like we’ve mostly been working out second rounders. guess they still have some time to figure out who they like

Luke Zeller ....
Is he an NBA prospect? The write ups on him are impressive academically but basketball wise I’m wondering if he has a future. Does anyone know anything about his game?
by Man of Pace on Jun 9, 2009 12:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
No, he's not.
Guys who put up 5.2 PPG and grab 2.9 RPG in college usually don’t even get workouts. In fact they never do.

Along with being smart
He can shoot it and he’s 6’11" so he could be a late-bloomer prospect that finds his way into the league at some point, but not in this draft.

must be his valedictorian status ...
maybe they are looking at him to see if he can balance the Simon’s books ….
