Danny Granger Appreciates the Support From DetEksi Basketball League

DBL Commissioner, Azrul Ananda with Danny Granger's signed All-Star jersey and the shoes Granger wore during his visit to Surabaya.

During my travels earlier in the month, I heard from my friends with the DetEksi Basketball League (DBL) and wanted to relay their excitement over an All-Star gesture by Danny Granger.

As I detailed in this post, the Indonesian hoop fans associated with the DBL were so thrilled with Granger's appearance last summer that they offered their wishes for Danny to have an All-Star season in a special section of the local newspaper last August.

Well, Granger didn't forget the support and recently sent a token of his appreciation to DBL Commissioner, Azrul Ananda. From a DBL press realease:

And last Wednesday (1 April), a special package arrived in DBL Office in Surabaya. Inside is Granger's All-Star Jersey. Framed and signed!

"The NBA from New York sent it to us. The NBA said, we are the only one to have it in Asia. Because that jersey have a special meaning for Granger, the NBA, and DBL," said Azrul Ananda, DBL commissioner. "We will put it in a special display in DBL Arena. Along with the Nike shoes that he wore during his visit here. Danny Granger is a big part of Indonesia's basketball history. We want people to remember him forever," he added.

Granger's work with the DBL helped raise the profile of the league locally which played a role in the league continuing to expand in Indonesia. Both the DBL and Granger have made huge strides since working together last summer and part of that success includes a close bond of mutual respect.

Granger is such a likeable guy

Since he’s rookie year (he’s always seemed a down-to-earth and he’s certainly a hard worker), but now he’s perhaps the most personable and classiest player in the league after Mutombo’s injury. A story about his upbringings and his relationship with his father published in the Indy Star a few months ago was one of the best NBA-related articles of the season.
