Around SBN: Celtics, Heat Score On Purpose In Super Sunday Wins

"33"

Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Alonzo Mourning, Patrick Ewing, Scottie Pippen.

The names listed above compile a list of Hall of Fame NBA players who have had the jersey number "33" retired. There are enough reasons why I believe that Danny Granger will join this group for me to take time to write this.

Star-divide

I have searched and searched and have yet to find a single story that can even imply something negative about Danny Granger. The NBA thinks so highly of Danny they sent him to Malaysia as a representative this year. He is by all accounts a model citizen on the court and off the court. If we refer to the list above all those guys met these criteria of citizenship.

We are safe to assume Danny is in control of his faculties after living through a season with Ron Artest. I hate to even mention it but he kept his nose clean during the tumultuous 2 years that followed "the brawl". Thankfully he was never swayed by the influences that surrounded him mainly Tinsley, Harrison & Shawne Williams.

The” Lone Granger" is carrying this current Pacers team through the 2009 season. Currently the Pacers are technically in the playoff race although most of us have reserved ourselves to the fact it won’t happen. This shouldn't be the case considering we haven't had the services of Dunleavy, Daniels or Foster for extended periods of time.   It is clear Danny is emerging as the Savior of the Pacers franchise, the go-to guy, the only all-star and the fan's favorite: talk about the recipe for a hall of fame career.

Thankfully  he's signed on for the next 5 years with Indiana, and decided to be loyal to our franchise, because otherwise he would have hit the open market next year and a commanded a maxed out deal. The Pacers can't afford maxed out deals anymore, ha they can't afford to operate Conseco Field house.

Lastly lets as Pacers fans, enthusiasts, etc lets make sure  Granger does not become Durant and Indiana does not become Seattle.  Go to a game support this team and Make sure Danny's number "33" gets retired here in Indiana where it belongs.

same here

I’m moving back to Indy in about a year and a half and will probably be living downtown. I can’t wait to start going to games regularly.

And…Granger is pretty awesome. He’s not Lebron or Wade but he is a guy that you can build a team around that will compete for championships. Once the regular season is officially over I’m going to start putting up some comprehensive posts about potential draft picks and strategies. It feels good going into this draft that we really are at the point of looking for pieces to a puzzle rather than starting a puzzle from scratch.

hahaha...

drove it for the first and only time last year, and it was great. I could not believe how small Indianapolis was, I was completely shocked. The Fieldhouse is just unreal. Also stopped in the Indiana basketball hall of fame off of the highway somewhere which was atually pretty cool. Luckily for me, I live right near Izod Center and The Garden (sigh)

I’ve done the drive from NYC to Indy and back a few times. When you’re going from Indy to NYC, it gets a bit rough around the PA tunnels but on the way to Indy it’s really a pretty great drive (as far as 12 hour drives go)

Yea i agree...

We got stuck in snow in Ohio somewhere, but besides that yea it wasnt bad. Do you live in NYC now? Im driving to Chicago in July that should be interesting.

no but still east coast

My family moved to NYC a few years ago and most of my friends now live in the city so I’ve spent a few spring breaks there too. I lived there for about 6 months in ’06. I live in Boston now though and the extra 4 hours really make the drive not worth it.

Driving to Chicago will be rough just because it sucks to deal with the city traffic at the end of the long drive. The nice part about driving to Indy is that after the many hours on the road you’re usually fine in terms of traffic once you get to the city.

I did have one drive in a snowstorm that was horrible. I was moving from NYC back to Bloomington, IN. I had just bought a new car so I wasn’t sure how much to trust it. The car was absolutely packed including some expensive musical instruments. The first four hours were in snow and squalls through the PA mountains. It was MISERABLE. The rest of the trip ended up beautiful though.

Nice...

I am actually driving to Boston Sunday for the Sox Home Opener on Monday with a friend. I don’t like the Red Sox, but I love going to baseball games, Boston is great.

.

Me and my friends were talking about this the other day. And downtown is really pretty small. the city kind of sprawls out as far as residential areas go but it is pretty small.

Granger is my boy

Seriously, I have a greater man crush on Danny Granger than I have had on any person ever, and that includes the Great Reggie Miller. I also agree, and have commented more than once to my friends, that its ironic that on 30’s players have the “number retired” potential (see generally Reggie, Mel, etc.). And while I agree that Danny Boy has the potential to be one of the greatest Pacers of all time, I don’t think his ability to avoid legal trouble should even be part of the conversation. I think we are all way too short sighted when looking at how “great” a Pacer is now because they all get a bump if they are good people. In fact, I think one year of being teammates with Artest HELPED Danny because he got to go against one of the best defenders in the league day in and day out.

The more we talk about how good our players are as people, the more we remember how terrible our players were as people in the past few years. Lets stick to the court, because I’m sure that’s what HOF voters look at anyway.
