Who won the Rush for Bayless trade?

It is time to debate.

Last spring Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and Brandon Rush were traded for Jerryd Bayless and Ike Diogu. The Trailblazers are well on there way to the playoffs and the Pacers are well on there way to lottery. I personally am of the opinion the Pacers still have come out on top in this move. (Provided Jarrett Jack re-signs) Although, I know many of the Pacer fans out there believe Larry Bird missed the boat by moving the flashy Jerryd Bayless.

jack needs to be resigned at a fair price to really decide this deal…

Frankly… Rush and Bayless haven’t been very good at all. I think Bayless gets more of a pass as he is on a play off team and only getting 10mins a game in the Western Conference. And Rush was supposed to be a college player who could come in right away and contribute.

if they would give McRoberts some burn so we knew anything about him would be nice.

If pacers resign Jack I think they won… barely. If not… I think it was a large fail as I think Rush sucks.

Rush does suck, and Bayless is 4 years younger so we’ll have to wait and see what he becomes.

Still undecided..

But I think at this point, the season is almost over now and it is definitely fair to start judging people’s season, I have to say Rush definitely did not live up to expectations for the fans, and I am sure the front office. He got put into a rare position as a rookie, and had more than his opportunities, but failed to really take advantage of the playing time and opportunities. As for Jack, he far exceeded expectations, he stepped up really really big in Danny’s absence, and probbably played himself into a contract. And for Bayless, He gets an incomplete. He has shown flashes of explosiveness but really hasn’t been given the minutes and opporunity like our guys have. We’ll see about him.

As for that other trade. Who would have ever though the best asset in that whole trade, (jermaine, Rasho, Maceo TJ and the 17th pick) would be the 17th pick??? Kudos to Larry and crew for getting Big Roy, he has been real impressive.

Personally I don’t find the renting of Jarrett Jack for one season to be a big bonus in this trade. If we had left him in Portland chances are we could have signed him for far less this off season than what we’ll have to pay now.

Also, at best, Jack is a number two point guard on a good team. Is that really something to get excited about if Bayless turns out to be a good starting point guard in the league?

I’ve not hidden my distaste for this trade for a second. I think it was shortsighted at best and a real indictment of the direction of this franchise.

Just curious..

I see your a Jayhawk fan…what did you think of Rush oming in?? did he disappoint you? I didnt watch much, only the tournament of him basically, but I thought he was going to be better than he has shown. And i sitll hate kansas for that beatdown of UNC last year. who u got winning it this year?

by captain flitzy on Mar 20, 2009 12:18 PM EDT up reply actions

The first time I watched Rush play was when he was playing in an AAU tournament in Lawrence. Even at that age he didn’t seem to want to take over a game. He just looks to fit in. At KU he was fine but that was primarily because he was surrounded by future NBA players and he never had to take over for them to win games. I’ve been saying even before the draft that Rush was not going to be a very good pro, however I only got real mad when we drafted Bayless and then traded him for Rush.

I’m sorry you’re a UNC fan. People around here really hate UNC. Personally I’m only a casual KU basketball fan (my wife is a KU grad so we watch every game) I still consider myself an IU basketball fan. I’m way more of a Jayhawk football fan than basketball fan.

Don't Rush Rush

You mentioned that Brandon Rush was surrounded by NBA players when he was at KU. He was never asked to take over or lead. Maybe that’s just it. Maybe he just needs to shake himself out of that mindset. I think he has started to show real promise towards the end of the year and could be a solid backup in the years to come.

Ummm, actually he was asked to take over and lead, many times, publicly, by his head coach. Oh and the other players also implored him, publicly to take over and be more aggressive. He was the most talented player on the team and even the other players knew it and wanted to defer to Brandon. He just doesn’t have it in him.

I don't know...

He sure has looked good these past few games though. I’m not saying he finally broke out, but he sure looked pretty good. I hope and pray this is the confidence booster he needs. Looking at his mechanics and his body language from before and after, he has made great strides this year.

... I miss Jack

Ike sucked period and Bayless can barely get off the bench. In a couple years the trade might look better for the Blazers but not this year… and probably not next. Jack is just a better player at this point and he is still young, so theres no reason to think he won’t get better. Bayless is like a rookie version of Jack with really short arms…

My stubbling is perfect...

We totally got burned in this trade

I bitched about the trade the minute it happened. It goes back to Larry Bird’s refusal to admit he needs to rebuild.

You don’t trade a 19 year old prospect, who is projected to go top 5, for a 23 Year old prospect, Coming off an ACL tear No-less, who is thought to be a top 15-20 talent.

Jarret Jack has been ok this year. However there are 50 guys who could do what Jack does. Bayless has the ability to be a top 10 lead guard.

I hope Rush can develop into a rotation contributor going forward. However he is the 3rd Rush brother to be taken in the lottery. The other 2 flamed out without every reaching their potential. So the odds don’t look good.

You and I aaron will be the only two who can stand back and say that we knew this trade was a bad idea in the first place. Kudos to us. Sadly our knowledge won’t do anything to bring a reversal of this trade.

by ThirtyOne on Mar 24, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Initially I hated the trade.

But I realized the trade won’t be rescinded and we have 3 players playing after the trade.
Ike does not play. Bayless is fighting and losing the battle for minutes. There s a reason Bayless can’t get off the bench mainly turnovers and he is a gun.

Rush has played considerably better than the “he sucks” rating given in some other responses. His defense has be pretty impressive even at times being called to guard the other teams best player. I will knock the fact he doesn’t dunk the damn ball when he’s in position to do so. Hopefully that will come when he’s playing for a contract in 2 years.

Jack is still getting love from Portland and has been solid all year long. If he re-signs this deal is a for sure win for tha Pacers.

McBob still has a POSSIBLE future in the NBA and that is more than Ike Diogu can say.

Bayless averages 10 minutes an appearance.
