IC Cold Links: Recappin' The Pacers Treading Water

Here are a few links of interest following the Pacers loss to Utah last night:

  • Bruno's Inside the Game LIVE chat and Postgame Report.
  • Mike Wells reports on the Pacers giving up a chance to win by giving up the ball too much.
  • Pacers Notebook has more on Troy Murphy's game which included breaking the  team's single-season rebound record. Also, Jim O'Brien was a big fan of Dwyane Wade on Monday night as he kept tabs on the Pacers' playoff competition.
  • Ross Siler reports on the Jazz winning streak feeding itself  by giving the team the confidence and resolve needed to close out games as they did last night.
  • Mike's Pacers Insider post implores the Pacers to pick up the option on Marquis Daniels. I'd love to keep Quisy but I don't see how the Pacers can and still fill out their  roster with only about $11 million available this summer.
  • Herb Simon met with the Indy Star Editorial Board yesterday to explain his side of the Pacers financial woes.

I’m getting pretty tired of hearing the Simon’s whine about their situation in Indy. They have one of the best Arena’s in the NBA and if they can’t pack the fans in they have no one to blame but themselves. Is it the cities fault that you traded for Dunleavey and Murphy who make almost twenty million per year? And until they open their books for the public to see we shouldn’t give them a dime more of public funding. Generally I side with a Professional Sports franchise in these kinds of debates but this one smells especially fishy to me.

The Pacers do not have the goodwill built up that the Colts do and should not be looking for similar treatment. The Colts have supplied a far more entertaining and likable product the last five years and are treated accordingly. So Please Herb do not try to use the Colts as a barometer for what you should get.

I live in Kansas City and have watched the KC Royals owner complain in much the same way as the Simon’s have recently. No one in KC felt sorry for them but the Royals still strong armed the city into renovating their stadium and giving them a better lease agreement. I hope the Simon’s aren’t as fortunate.
