The Indiana Pacers will have a hungry Charlotte Bobcats team to contend with Wednesday night in Charlotte. The Bobcats appeared to have a nice road win in their grasp against the Magic, but a late three pushed the game to OT and the L followed.
The Pacers are desperate to build on the momentum of their win against Philly. They'll need to bring the same defensive effort which was the difference in last night's game.
Here are the Pacers.com Matchups. The Pacers will be without Mike Dunleavy and Jeff Foster tonight. The Bobcats appear to be at full strength, so with both teams on a back-to-back, Charlotte will have a depth advantage.

Gameday Reading
- Bruno's Inside the Game LIVE and Postgame Report from last night.
- Mike Wells reports on a little defense going a long way for the Pacers.
- Mike has a few interesting items in his Pacers Insider post including Murphy getting grief from his teammates for having the same number of rebounds (7) as Travis Diener. Also, JOB figures an 18-10 finish could get the Pacers in the playoffs. The question is: How can they go 18-10? Last night was a good start.
- Kate Fagan reports on the Sixers leaving plenty of game on the court in their loss. Love this little story from early in the game.
You knew the Pacers, who have played well at home all season, came to play when early in the first quarter Indiana guard T.J. Ford stopped successive post-up attempts by Miller.
On the second of the low-post feeds, an energized Ford bounced along the baseline and called to the Sixers' bench, "How about that post 'D,' Roy?"
Ford was speaking to Sixers reserve guard and former University of Texas teammate Royal Ivey.
"They came out with more energy," Miller admitted.
- Bernard Fernandez reports on Philly's less than inspired effort.
- Liberty Ballers breaks down Philly's loss.
- Bruno's Caught in the Web breaks down the intricacies of what the Pacers need to do to finish strong this season. Answer = win.
- Bernard Fernandez looks at Danny Granger, fresh off his All-Star appearnce.
- Phil Richards has a great piece on former Crispus Attucks legend, Willie Gardner in advance of a memorial game to be played at the Fieldhouse on Thursday.
- Jeff Rabjohns preps us for Greg Oden and Mike Conley playing against each other for the first time after many years as teammates.

Trade deadline ideas
I’ve been thinking of a couple of scenerios that can help the Pacers going forward. Please allow me to share.
Idea #1.http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
Tinsley and Marquis Daniels for Mo Peterson, Antonio Daniels and New Orleans 1st rounder this year.
New Orleans desperately needs to shed payroll. Tinsley and Peterson cancel eachother out contract wise. We will have to pay Antonio Daniels next year. But his expiring deal can be used the same as Marquis’ needs to be this year. We get New Orleans 1st rounder for our troubles.
Idea # 2 http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine
Trade with Houston of Baston, Daniels for Landry, Dorsey,Luther Head and Bonzi Wells’ Trade exception.
With T-Mac out the Rockets are going to need a backup plan. Daniels should help them get to the playoffs this year. And he and Baston both expire after this season. So Rockets save money over the long haul.
Pacers save money this year because of the trade exception. Plus pick up 2 prospects in Dorsey and Landry (whom Bird is rumored to like).

Excellent and realistic trade ideas. I hope the Pacers are at least going to do something along these lines. If I had my choice I would prefer idea #1.

I was thinking
more along the lines of Dunleavy Murphy and Tinsley for Jameer, Rashard, and Howard…Orlando saves a tonnnn of moneyy and…..
No for real I actually like Number 2 alot. I like Landry alot, he is one of those undersized hustle/brute guys that I think most teams need. I have no problem at all getting rid of Baston (obviously) or Daniels. Joey Dorsey looks like a Mon-Star from Space Jam, who has the physical tools. On draft day, I was walking by the hotel the rookies were all staying at, and I saw Anthony Randolph coming out who is an actual twig, and in a small deli around the corner Dorsey with family and friends I guess…that man is really a monster. I feel like we would not be losing anything of substance with a chance at some decent players. Head seems like he can score with the opportunity right? NIce job aaron b, they are much more plausible trades than I would ever get off that machine haha.

Completing a trade like the ones proposed would be a blast, wouldn't it?
From a practical sense I like number one, but I’d love to have Landry and Dorsey wreaking havoc off the bench. We can dream…
I did hear David Benner (Pacers PR Chief) on the radio earlier today and he’s not travelling with the team. I have no idea how common that is but I thought, hmm, maybe he’s staying behind to handle communications for a potential deal. Love it when my mind wanders.

Ok just for Grins I've got 1 more

Pacers send Baston and Tinsley to Grizzlies for Marko Jaric and Hakim Warrick.
Grizzlies were going to let Warrick walk after the season anyway. Might as well let us take a look at him for the rest of the season. Maybe he fits into the JOB system and resigns here cheap.
Tinsley for Jaric is an exact swap of bad contracts. However Jaric will be a serviceable #2/#3 PG, whom the Pacers will presumably actually LET IN THE FREAKING BUILDING.
Better than a Tinsley buyout anyway.

You know that Jaric deal is almost too smart for any NBA team to actually do. It makes complete sense for both teams. The Pacers get someone who can actually get in the building and the Grizzlies can use Tinsley to mentor a young Mike Conley Jr. Wait a second maybe this isn’t such a good idea for the Grizz. On second thought I think I’ve just figured out why we haven’t been able to move JT, not even the lowly Grizz would want him on their team.

Don't agree
I think Bird has held out for value on JT up to this point.
As has been his custom. He absolutely hates the idea of “sunk cost”. So instead he waits for a bigger deal to fit Tinsley into.
However I live in Memphis and attend Grizzlies games a fair amount of the time. The 2 PG’s that are getting PT in Memphis right now are Conley and Kyle Lowry.
Both guys are/have been mentioned in trade rumors all year. Right now the local scuttlebut is that
1) Lowry for Daquan Cook is on the table
2) Conley,Warrick and Rudy Gay for Amare Stoudemire
3) Conley for Joe Alexander and Ramon Sessions (Supposedly on Herb Kohl’s desk awaiting his approval as of 2 weeks ago.
So chances are good that one of these guys are moving.
And as much as we all hate to admit it. As of right now today. Jamaal Tinsley is an upgrade over either player.

I pretty much agree that all these deals seem reasonable on both ends and would be really nice to get through. I think what’s most frustrating is that we have some pretty nice expiring contracts and there are a ton of teams trying to shed payroll who don’t mind giving up an okay rotation player. It’s not as though there is a potential trade that is going to put us over the top or anything, it’s just that it seems like it shouldn’t be too hard to make a good move forward with the trade pieces we have. Any of these ideas would be a good step forward while using our assets productively.
P.S. we are now down to less than 24 hours til the deadline………

Maybe we are still going to do that deal with Charlotte but both teams want to wait till after the game tonight.

Quesion..
I didnt really “follow” the team as much back when Bird coached, I didnt haveleague pass and i was in high school, but…everyone talking about JOB’s JOB, what about BIrd becoming coach again? Is that even a thought, was he considered a good coach, or did he just have ultra talented teams?? Whats the general consesus on him as a coach?
by captain flitzy on Feb 18, 2009 5:41 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Bird did a great job
He utilized an offensive coordinator (Carlisle) and defensive coordinator (Harter) to handle the Xs and Os and he seemed to push all the right buttons with the players. If only they didn’t trade away Antonio Davis for the Finals year. Jalen Rose was on local radio yesterday singing the praises of Coach Bird and how he had them in the EC Finals in his first year. Jalen didn’t get along with Larry Brown at all.

Let’s all agree never to mention the Antonio Davis trade again. I know that it was Davis that wanted to go but if we had kept him we might have won in the Finals.

Read my last fan post MOP. I think I did an excellent job of pointing out the issues with Brandon Rush.

off the wall question
is Billy Keller working with the whole team … or certain individuals
by Man of Pace on Feb 18, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He's available for the whole team
Seems to really be working with the younger players. He changed some things up on Rush when Rush wasn’t playing and that hasn’t helped Brandon. I heard an interview with Keller where he mentioned not wanting to change anything with one player (I think Roy) because he was playing, but at the time Rush wasn’t playing.

Quisy
I think Quisy just passed it to himself off the bottom of the rim.

ehhh...
When it looked like a run was coming, that Diaw play Killed us I thought, where it was kind of a broken play and he hit the little layup. Charlotte is a physssiccall team, wow. Looks like theyre hands and bodies are all over the place. I watched the feed with the Bobcats cameras/announcers, and it was absolutely horrible, almost unwatchable.. Whenever the camera moved, it was realllly blurry, and the announcers were horrible. O well, one step closer to the lottery, i guess????
