Game Thread #22: Indiana Pacers at Orlando Magic

Indiana Pacers at Orlando Magic, Dec 14, 2009 7:00 PM EST

Indiana Pacers

8-1317-6
December 14, 2009 - 7:00PM EST
Amway Arena
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
T.J. Ford PG Jason Williams
Brandon Rush SG Vince Carter
Dahntay Jones SF Mickael Pietrus
Troy Murphy PF Rashard Lewis
Roy Hibbert C Dwight Howard

The Indiana Pacers look to win their third-straight game tonight when they face the Orlando Magic at the Amway Arena.

The Magic boast several lethal weapons from behind the arc to go along with Superman in the paint. Needless to say, winning will be a challenge for the Pacers. Not helping matters is the fact that the Magic lost the final two road games on their recent West Coast swing. So now they're home and hungry for a win.

Mike Wells reports from Orlando that Dahntay Jones will be a game-time decision depending on how his hip feels. If Dahntay can't go who will start in his place is unknown, although Jim O'Brien is considering Luther Head which would add another to the growing list of lineup combination you never thought you'd see before the season started.

Sounds like DJones will be available.

Game is on

Pacers up 6-2

Dunleavy just had a sweet pass to Roy in the lane that he missed, but TJ eventually scored.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

All but Dunleavy have scored

Dun has an empty stat line but he’s moving the ball. No coincidence.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

12-2, whoa

Magic havin problems in the paint so far.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

Rush with outstanding defense

on Carter. He is really getting after it on the defensive end

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:24 PM EST reply actions

Howard to the line again

Do we have enough big guys to “hack-a-Howard” tonight? His FT percentage is pretty bad.

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

speaking of hack a whomever,

does anyone know how Shaquille O’Neal is doing? I haven’t been paying attention to Cleveland.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

I think he is out

as of now. He has been playing alright though…

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:36 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

he hasn’t gotten any smaller! He hasn’t been really memorable this season. Nothing I can think of at least…

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

Solo in the game

at the line for an “and 1”

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Wow - where has he been?

I think he’s in for bulk and the hack-a-howard.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 7:37 PM EST up reply actions

Good question

he, AJ, and Head have been quiet for awhile. It’s too bad, they can all play. We just have too many players at those positions

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

T-brough

O Rebound, then sweet pass to Solo for the and 1

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions

Pacers with the great D

lets hope they can keep this up tonight. Oh and bad 3 point shooting for the Magic will help too!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:42 PM EST reply actions

Magic

with a mini-run. 17 point lead down to 12

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:45 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Pacers have an amazing ability to make it look so easy, then make it look so difficult within 5 minutes

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 7:59 PM EST reply actions

Whoa

I come back and murphy and dunleavy are turning it over and the lead is gone.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

Im really behind

JJ Reddick is on the free throw line! Where in the game are you guys at?

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:01 PM EST reply actions

Timeout

with 2 something left maybe? JJ is at the line, but after getting fouled by Duns

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:02 PM EST reply actions

I guess

I’d be happy if you told me the halftime score before the game, but man, it feels like we should be up more

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

Howard

is 5-10 from the line. Keep hackin him boys!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:14 PM EST reply actions

Credit due for TJ

11 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 0 turnovers. Let’s see if he can put a full game together.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 8:21 PM EST reply actions

No JJTs!

That’s a win…I’m curious about his +/- now….

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:23 PM EST up reply actions

Ford's +/- is a +3

Improvement from the -20 from the other night.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:24 PM EST up reply actions

Awesome in the first quarter and the start of the second

It looked like a team with talent who played the game right. It was as close to good basketball as I’ve seen from this team this year. Then they went and did that thing they do from time to time again…

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:27 PM EST up reply actions

Orlando bench is outscoring Pacer Bench

Having Dunleavy start is part of that too.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:25 PM EST reply actions

All right

Just in time for the second half. Has Dunleavy played 18 minutes? What’s going to happen with his minutes? Is he just going to 36 and that be that?

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions

Funny enough

TJ has had some success driving, and his first 3 of the year!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:33 PM EST up reply actions

Woo!

About time he hit one.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Double T's

next they’ll give everyone a trophy

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 8:38 PM EST reply actions

I lost any type of minuscule interest I had in Howard

after I saw parts of the slam dunk contest at last year’s All star weekend. That was pretty horrible.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Foster is annoying him...

But he acts like playing as a center, he should only get as much contact as a guard would.

by treemeister on Dec 14, 2009 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Foster

Is looking a lot better here recently than he did all of last year. Good to have Jeff back in full force.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 8:45 PM EST reply actions

Sweet

DJones set up Hansbro for the flush. Pacers up 6

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions

I dunno...

He looks pretty comfortable at that range. If he can bring Howard out of the paint we could open up something else.

by treemeister on Dec 14, 2009 8:48 PM EST up reply actions

Totally

got to get the shot blocker out of the paint. Keep shooting those Jeff!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

Pacers timeout, up 3

Dun could be down for a bit with only about 5 minutes left

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Watching the Magic jack up threes

Is like an amnesiac getting his memory back. I’m starting to remember how this Magic team won the Eastern Conference last year. Very lucky to catch them on an off night from deep.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 8:50 PM EST reply actions

And Rashard Lewis only has 5 pts

Please stay at 5 pts! *knocks on wood

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

Yea

I just looked at the box score and saw he had only two points…then, next possession, he drilled the 3-pointer…typical

by spstevenson on Dec 14, 2009 8:53 PM EST up reply actions

Looks like JOB is saying screw it to the minute restriction again…i don’t blame him

by spstevenson on Dec 14, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

Putting together

A strong finish to the quarter.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 8:53 PM EST reply actions

GOOD steal

And uggly finish by Roy. But I’ll take it!

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:02 PM EST reply actions

Wow

you werent kidding!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

Whew

Roy tried to blow that tip but it floated in nicely.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 9:02 PM EST reply actions

Uh oh

Magic’s getting some mo here.

by treemeister on Dec 14, 2009 9:03 PM EST reply actions

As long as Indiana can respond

I’m not worried about a mini rush by the Magic. Just need to keep the pressure on.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:03 PM EST up reply actions

Dwight

Getting extremely friendly rolls on the FTs.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Key response for Watson

Pacers doing just what they need to do to stay in this one.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

TJ back in

good thing or bad thing?

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions

despite that last possession

good thing. He has a bounce tonight. Can’t stand and watch him tho

by Tom Lewis on Dec 14, 2009 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

A little of both

One great end of clock possession, one terrible end of clock possession.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

Refs

Seem to be “wising” up that Hansbrough is a rook and not giving him the calls he should be getting.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:17 PM EST reply actions

Orr

Anyone else for that matter. Jeez.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:18 PM EST reply actions

wow...

bench rush right now.

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:18 PM EST reply actions

Really?

He has been playing great D tonight. Not so much from the offensive end tho…

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:19 PM EST up reply actions

yes...

he just AIRBALLED…. in the 4th, wide open, perfect step into shot, great pass

AIRBALL>….

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:20 PM EST up reply actions

And your point is?

Murphy airballed one earlier too. Cut the guy some slack

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

Seriously Ford?

He looked like a 5th grader!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

no kidding....

ford better hit ANOTHER big shot, or watson should be in the game.

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

i think it would help us win...

but is it really worth the risk? If he can really play like this in the future. Almost not worth the risk.

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:20 PM EST reply actions

Not sure what he's supposed to do

He’s wide open, clock is winding down, the ball comes to him. I’d be calling him out for passing it, not taking it.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:23 PM EST up reply actions

Good possession

Shame it ended up with zero. But solid ball movement.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

if rush doesn't start hitting those wide open 3's....

he’s going to be cut from every roster he ever makes.

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:23 PM EST reply actions

Dude

seriously lighten up

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

OK you dislike Rush

Pacers as a team has only attempted 8 FT. I’m going to say it’s not all on him.

by Gwen on Dec 14, 2009 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

That was a bad shot by Ford

Move it around a bit more. Murph was setting up for a nice look.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Reddick

Just sunk in the dagger. Bleh.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

game over...

dunleavy cold now too =/

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:26 PM EST reply actions

Well I expected this result

but they teased me by playing well at times. Still a frustrating loss

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions

I wish I got to watch more games.

League Pass is so expensive to watch us lose 50 games.

by treemeister on Dec 14, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

Haha!

I sometimes wonder too, but it’s at least entertaining for now!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:37 PM EST up reply actions

I'm in law school now...

If I had enough time, I’d consider dropping for it. As it is, I don’t think I’d get my money’s worth.

by treemeister on Dec 14, 2009 9:38 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

my girl is rooming with a law student, she doesnt leave her room most days. I can understand that!

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

Ford and Dwight

BFFs forever. Whatever happened to not liking your opponent?

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

He has done that to a few opposing players

I remember him laughing with D Williams, and Williams ignoring him.

by jantz101 on Dec 14, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

Haha

Maybe he’s looking to make some friends for when he’s a FA.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

hahah

i like this.

~SHaFF!~

by SHaFF87 on Dec 14, 2009 9:36 PM EST up reply actions

My take

Great game against a great team. Took em down to the wire. Nothing to be ashamed of.

by IndyDan on Dec 14, 2009 9:34 PM EST reply actions

I feel the same

Had our chances, couldn’t capitalize. Magic took care of business when they had to. There are positives to take from this one. We’re without our best player, on the road, against one of the premier teams in the league. I’m not discouraged at all by this one.

by Nathan S. on Dec 14, 2009 9:35 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

very winnnable, just lack that killer instinct.

by IndyDan on Dec 14, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

absolutely. would have been estatic to see us finish it off but 3rd in 4 nights against a top-tier team, right there for 46 minutes without danny, dunleavy is playing well, hard to be too upset about this one.

by 15ks on Dec 14, 2009 10:17 PM EST up reply actions

Ron Jeremy exclaims that Dwight is made of fine china...

expands on this by stating league-wide conspiracy to get away with fouling Howard in face/neck.
