Game Thread #20: New Jersey Nets at Indiana Pacers

New Jersey Nets at Indiana Pacers, Dec 11, 2009 7:00 PM EST

@
Indiana Pacers
2-206-13
December 11, 2009 - 7:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Devin Harris PG T.J. Ford
Courtney Lee SG Brandon Rush
Chris Douglas-Roberts SF Dahntay Jones
Josh Boone PF Troy Murphy
Brook Lopez C Roy Hibbert

The Indiana Pacers continue their search for some consistent energetic and productive play for all 48 minutes tonight when they host the New Jersey Nets at Conseco Fieldhouse. Yes, the Nets are healthy and no doubt motivated to continute putting the 0-18 start in the rear view. Still, the Pacers sans Danny Granger have more than enough cap space active to play well and play for the win tonight.

Oh sweet

A potential win!!

Like to see our guys play well tonight. Actually pull out a win.

The way JOB was taking

Price is going to see some minutes for the rest of the year. I guess we will see…

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

Let's hope

talked to AJ a bit ago and he was hoping too.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 6:36 PM EST up reply actions

He sounded upbeat

in the article. Do you get that feeling talking to him too?

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 6:38 PM EST up reply actions

Just steady

Don’t see him getting up or down.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 6:57 PM EST up reply actions

Minutes limits

Both Dunleavy and Hansbrough are bumped up to 24 minute limits. Off the bench that ought to be more than enough.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions

Good

Glad to hear the limit bumps.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

Obie

Seems optimistic about getting A.J. involved. Also pointed out how desperately this team needs for T.J. to quit sucking. I’ll file that last bit of info into the “Something Everybody But T.J. Ford Knows” file.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 6:57 PM EST reply actions

Strange

could sum up his play all year. I’m rooting for the good side of strange tonight!

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

I hope you're right

My feeling is him shooting 24% from the field and dishing out 2 assists in 30 minutes of action, but he can definitely do something if he gets it together.

He should be in a great position to just blow the game open without Danny, not really needing to get D.Jones involved, and since Brandon doesn’t want to be involved…

I’m willing to give him free reign tonight, just as long as he can make smart decisions. If he does that, he can really be a factor for this team in a very positive manner.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

Yay for League Pass working again

You guys still in the deep freeze out there?

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:07 PM EST reply actions

Today was pretty nice

In the sun. Tonight will be cold again, but it’ll at least be decent for a while.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:11 PM EST up reply actions

Heh

“Warmed” up a bit today into the 30’s.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

Hopefully Roy

can have a nice game again

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST reply actions

Nets bench

Acting like there’s 2:00 left against the Magic. Lopez did make Roy look silly on both sides.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Harris had no one on him at all. Miracle he missed it.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

Nice

Roy with the trailing ‘jumper’ from the FT line.

TJ getting them going. Tied back up at 6

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:14 PM EST reply actions

TJ

with 4 early points!

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:14 PM EST reply actions

wow

sweet shot by Harris, with the foul.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

Harris

Going to go D. Wade Circa 2006 Finals on us tonight.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:17 PM EST reply actions

LOVED that drive Brandon

And to go for the dunk too! Don’t get discouraged now!

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:18 PM EST reply actions

Roy

Doin’ work tonight.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

Pacers down 3

Looking forward to Devin Harris taking a break.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:21 PM EST reply actions

Pleased

So far. Team is playing solid all around ball. Clearly not perfect, but I don’t feel it’s been a bad game, even if we are trailing to the Nets.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:22 PM EST reply actions

Off to a better start

Looks like RH has finally settled down, started out shakey.

by IndyDan on Dec 11, 2009 7:23 PM EST reply actions

Love the bank threes

That’s my wheelhouse right there. Missed that trailing three from Murph.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:24 PM EST reply actions

Rush

has done a good job with his perimeter d tonight

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

Holy smokes

dunleavy pick ’n roll with Foster looked far too easy.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:31 PM EST reply actions

Good D

But the Nets certainly make it easier with those kinds of shots.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

End 1Q 27-21

Foster just missed a 3/4 court shot at the buzzer. Right on line and hit the bottom of the net.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions

Good first quarter

lets stretch that into a game now

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

There we go

Hibby with a nice re-post, takes it at Lopez for the hoop and the harm.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:40 PM EST reply actions

Scrappin'

Earl makes life miserable for Lopez and then hits Hansbro for the layup. This is borderline fun to watch.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:42 PM EST reply actions

Wow

they called that a jump ball?

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 7:50 PM EST reply actions

Josh Boone

An offensive board machine. Eight O-boards

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

Here we are

second unit provides a 12 point lead for the starters to close out the half. Down to 8 so far…

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

I'm starting to see

What you’re saying about the second unit doing well and the starting lineup not.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

worst starting 5 in the NBA?

what are your thoughts?

haha

Thought about it earlier and couldn’t come up with one I wouldn’t trade for

by bleedinblueandgold on Dec 11, 2009 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

also..

I couldn’t think of any other team who’s second unit would actually compete with the starters

by bleedinblueandgold on Dec 11, 2009 8:05 PM EST up reply actions

really would love to see more of Price, at this point what is there to lose

by bleedinblueandgold on Dec 11, 2009 8:01 PM EST reply actions

Cedit due

real nice leave by TJ. Hibby didn’t handle it well but did draw the foul.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 8:04 PM EST reply actions

Roy dunked

after a flop by nets, instead of settling for a layup, Hibby took the extra step and threw it down. I know, big deal, but still like to see it.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 8:06 PM EST reply actions

Whew

Got the stop. Tried to give up more points, but Pacers up 9 at the half.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 8:07 PM EST reply actions

4 sec left

that ‘hail mary’ was a dumb call. Almost cost us 2.

by IndyDan on Dec 11, 2009 8:09 PM EST reply actions

Tom, what are your thoughts on why Head does not play more?

For a team as offensively challenged as we are right now, especially without Granger, wouldn’t it make sense to play the instant offense? And how much longer do you think they stay with OB?

"My game’s like the Pythagorean Theorem. It ain’t got no answer." - Shaq

by bleedinblueandgold on Dec 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST reply actions

Head played some in the first half

I think JOB wanted to stick with Rush a little longer than usual otherwise Luther may have played more in the first half. With circumstances as they are, I don’t se JOB going anywhere soon unless there’s a rebellion.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Halftime

up 9. Pacers been playing pretty well so far, gotta get through this third quarter!

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Devin Harris is not happy

Walked by him in the tunnel in a heated conversation with Nets GM Rod Thorn. Only thing I heard was, It’s killing us! Like it if I’m a Nets fan.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 8:23 PM EST reply actions

Officials

Swallowing their whistle.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:26 PM EST reply actions

Starters came out strong

but then let off the gas. Hibbert has had problems handling the ball recently. Wonder why that is?

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions

wow

so thats what it looks like when murph goes inside the 3 pt line

another dbl-dbl for Tbro!

Hansbrough

Playing very well tonight. Exceptionally well on the offensive side.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:38 PM EST reply actions

good call

another bucket!

T-brough

keepin us in the game with his 17’

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 8:39 PM EST reply actions

Need to keep feeding the monster

No reason to get away from Hansbrough right now.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:40 PM EST reply actions

Man

It’s so nice to have Duns back. This guy just knows what to do with the ball.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

Screw the starting unit

Can’t we just play this unit the rest of the night?

Clearly, the Nets can’t stop it.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions

I agree

that’s what happened Wednesday, they took out the team that got us back in it and went back with the starters

by IndyDan on Dec 11, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

hopefully we get as big of a lead as possible right now

because its going to be getting chipped away at with about 8 min to go

If Youre not First, Youre Last

by drsuessrunner07 on Dec 11, 2009 8:47 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough

Just a more offensive Jeff Foster? That’s a bad thing? 17 points from Hansbrough on these types of minutes, sweet.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 8:54 PM EST reply actions

Good work

out of the big fella tonight

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

id agree with you

but even if we self destruct i dont think nj is good enough to make up 18 points without harris

If Youre not First, Youre Last

by drsuessrunner07 on Dec 11, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

my opinion

JOB going for the knock out with his preferred lineup right now – Dun, Murph, Hibby, Dahntay, Earl.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 9:00 PM EST reply actions

glad to see hibby playing with so much confidence/emotion

its your world big fella! we just live in it

Got to be approaching

the record for most jump balls in a game

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 9:04 PM EST reply actions

Totally

somewhere someone knows the answer to that!

by jantz101 on Dec 11, 2009 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

down to 15...

o look, tjs in the game, coincidence?

If Youre not First, Youre Last

by drsuessrunner07 on Dec 11, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

Lead down to 15

just like that. TJ’s mere presence on the floor runs a negative +/-.

by Tom Lewis on Dec 11, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

i dont think tjs ever had a +/-

he starts every game at 0 and it just goes down from there

If Youre not First, Youre Last

by drsuessrunner07 on Dec 11, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

What happened

to all PT AJ was suppose to get tonite??

by IndyDan on Dec 11, 2009 9:14 PM EST up reply actions

Brandon just dunked the ball

the wimpiest dunk ever – but it was a dunk.

by Gwen on Dec 11, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough

Doesn’t quit. I wish I could’ve appreciated his game more in college. His choice of school just didn’t leave that option open to me…

I fear I’ll do the same to John Wall…but like with Hansbrough, we’ll have plenty of time to appreciate him when we draft him. …right?

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 9:14 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough

Breaks 20. As does Hibbert. Yes!!

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

well done

glad to see us be led by the young guys! (remember that JOB)

If Youre not First, Youre Last

by drsuessrunner07 on Dec 11, 2009 9:20 PM EST reply actions

Great effort for the youth movement

Cannot be prouder of them. Even Rush wasn’t too bad…minus the five TOs.

by Nathan S. on Dec 11, 2009 9:21 PM EST reply actions

Let's keep it in perspective.

This was the Nets – great morale booster and we sure needed it. Next up-the Wiz.

by IndyDan on Dec 11, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Almost a direct quote from Dunleavy in the post-game

Keep in mind who we were playing, but yeah, it was nice to play well and get a win.
