Game Thread #14: Dallas Mavericks at Indiana Pacers

Dallas Mavericks at Indiana Pacers, Nov 27, 2009 8:00 PM EST

@
Indiana Pacers
12-45-7
Novermber 27, 2009 - 8:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Jason Kidd PG T.J. Ford
Rodrigue Beaubois SG Brandon Rush
Shawn Marion SF Dahntay Jones
Dirk Nowitzki PF Troy Murphy
Drew Gooden C Roy Hibbert

The Indiana Pacers have a chance to work off their Thanksgiving feast tonight when they host the Dallas Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Kidd and Jason Terry continue to plug along with the Mavs and Rick Carlisle has the talented vets off to a good start in the early season. Also, the addition of Shawn Marion and rookie Rodrigue Beaubois has added a boost of athletic ability to the lineup.

The Pacers will be without Danny Granger again, Mike Wells tells me Danny Granger WILL give it a try tonight but if not plans to play at Golden State (all of this good news is hard to digest).  As mentioned earlier, Mike Dunleavy appears set to be in uniform and available to play tonight.

No Danny?

Mike Wells tweeted this morning that Granger planned to play tonight. When did that change?

by boombaby on Nov 27, 2009 5:15 PM EST reply actions

Missed the tweet so thanks

just asked Mike and he says Granger will give it a go tonight but definitely plans to be back on the roadie.

Not sure about this one

Don’t feel great about it…but any little bit Danny can help will help.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions

In a chep attempt to raise expectations beyond reason

Dunleavy was money in his pre-game warmup. Now, it was nowhere near full-game speed, but the nets were snapping. Honestly, it was just good to see him out there.

JOB said he’s on a 20 minute limit, but not to expect him to play 20 minutes. Also, Danny is going to give it a go for real, although JOB held out for the fact that the active roster hadn’t been submitted. Should be interesting.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions

Rosters are in

Danny Granger is starting. Dunleavy is indeed active.

First time JOB has had all of his options available with the Pacers. Well, Travis Diener isn’t available, but…

In an effort to not take anything for granted

Dunleavy is actually warming up. Granger is not, but there’s only 11 players on the floor. Must be maximizing the treatment/rest.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 7:58 PM EST reply actions

As I post it

Danny joins the team on the floor, suited and booted.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 7:59 PM EST reply actions

This feels like

A teen drama. Will he? Won’t he?

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:00 PM EST up reply actions

No what I love

Dahntay Jones greeting all of the starters as the check in, hyping things up with players from the other team and then doing a little high five with Solo prior to tip. Keep the spirits up Dahntay.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 8:12 PM EST reply actions

DG and Roy

with a flailing pick roll. Take it.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

I’m pleased at this point. Might need to stop them at some point, but at least the offense is working hard.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:20 PM EST up reply actions

I feel like I deserve a refund for having to sit through Wednesday’s first quarter at Conseco. The team looks fantastic tonight compared to their first-half performance against the Clips.

by spstevenson on Nov 27, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Gotta contain Dirk

Don’t need him going off for 40 if Kidd’s actually going to score points as well.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:22 PM EST reply actions

His shots

are just looking sick right now. Amazing.

by spstevenson on Nov 27, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

Hansbro, Earl on with DJ, Foster and Granger

Mavs with a veteran laden linup, Kidd, Dirk, Marion, TTHomas and Jet.

Mavs up 5

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 8:27 PM EST reply actions

+1

Not a bad way to start Dunleavy’s comeback campaign!

by spstevenson on Nov 27, 2009 8:30 PM EST up reply actions

Free throw woes

Not something we need tonight.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:35 PM EST reply actions

Crap

Good D leads to a desperate 3 at the buzzer for Mavs. Of course it went in. Mavs up 35-26.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 8:37 PM EST reply actions

Dallas

4-6 outside with 2 points in the paint in the first.

There are worse ways to give up points, I guess.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:42 PM EST reply actions

Loved that shot

Love to see guys making plays like that. Very head’s up.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:46 PM EST up reply actions

Mannn

D was GREAT on that possession! How do the Mavs keep hitting baskets in those situations?

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:49 PM EST reply actions

Pacers

Throwing up some pretty ugly bricks right now. Where’s the offensive flow?

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:50 PM EST reply actions

JJ Barea is lethal people

he has the Mavs running quite efficiently.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 8:51 PM EST reply actions

This guy confuses me

He doesn’t seem like he should be able to make the plays he does, but he does, all the time, haha.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

What a frustrating game this is becoming

Indiana’s not playing poorly. I really think they’re doing a respectable job defensively and despite some questionable ball movement, are getting looks that would keep this a game if they fell, but the polar opposites are coming to light. Mavs are on fire, Pacers can’t hit a layup.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

Good work, Danny

Drive the line, get to the line.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:00 PM EST reply actions

Smart on the court decisions

Something we missed without Dunleavy.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:01 PM EST reply actions

Pacers down 17

were down 22. With 3:47 left, gotta keep shrinking the deficit before the half. Man, the Mavs have to stop making buckets at some time.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:03 PM EST reply actions

Danny

Doin’ work. And everything else.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions

DANNY GRANGER

MAN. This dude is monstering it up!

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Oh my

Dirk. What an amazing series he’s had tonight. I mean, he could throw it over the backboard and it’d somehow find its way into the hoop.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:11 PM EST reply actions

Good close to the half to keep it within reach

connection gremlins got me there. Nice to see Dunleavy involved late too.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:14 PM EST reply actions

I hear stories

About that ever reliable Conseco wifi.

What’s this halftime show going on?

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

Pacers out of sync on offense big time. Getting frustrated.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:39 PM EST reply actions

Thought we got back in this one

But I have no clue what’s been happening in the second half. Ughhhly.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:42 PM EST reply actions

Kidd puts Mavs up 20

Gotta take care of the ball or they’ll make you pay.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:45 PM EST reply actions

Lead quickly down to 15

more proof, Dunleavy knows how to play the game, subtly setting up Earl for an open 3

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:50 PM EST reply actions

Couple good quick baskets

Damn you, Carlisle! Quit killing momentum!

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:50 PM EST reply actions

How is Dunleavy the best Pacer on the floor tonight?

Are we playing this bad or his he really that good?

by Drakul on Nov 27, 2009 9:51 PM EST reply actions

Hmmm, good question

Dun hasn’t played that much, but the Pacers have settled for a lot of jumpers, missed jumpers.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:52 PM EST up reply actions

I think

The Pacers are playing adequately. Duns has been a HUGE spark tonight, but the Mavs are just murdering us everywhere. I don’t think they’ve missed a basket in 29 minutes.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:53 PM EST up reply actions

They showed a kid

Who was pumped up and then slowly over the course of his time on the air, his face faded into sadness somehow. It’s exactly how I felt when I realized I won’t be able to stay up late enough for these Western road games.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

Lead quickly back to 22

JOB may break a record for different playing rotations tonight.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:54 PM EST reply actions

Yikes

My man Jet puts a capper on the 3Q

by Tom Lewis on Nov 27, 2009 9:54 PM EST reply actions

Ughh

Just got done with my day from hell and turned the game on to see the third quarter. U-G-L-Y! Anything in the first half to get excited about?

by jantz101 on Nov 27, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

End of it

Was tremendous. Danny driving the line, getting to the line like Dwyane Wade, setting up teammates, diving for lose balls.

That was about the peak of the game.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 10:01 PM EST up reply actions

As a side note

Could we get some pro-Pacer announcers on TV. Quinn is almost pulling for Dallas

by Drakul on Nov 27, 2009 9:58 PM EST reply actions

Really?

I’ve never really felt Quinn’s alliances were in question regarding the Pacers. I mean, he’s good at giving credit where’s due, and Dallas deserves a lot of credit for this performance tonight. They are on everywhere.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions

Dallas should be up 30

When they have 30 more possessions.

by Drakul on Nov 27, 2009 10:00 PM EST reply actions

That last possession

Definition of the game:

Serviceable D – Mavs miss – Bobbled ball – Mavs offensive board – wild shot thrown up – friendliest roll ever in the history of mankind – foul on half the shots.

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 10:06 PM EST reply actions

Why's Danny still in this one?

I admire the will to win…but isn’t this guy “day-to-day”? No sense in playing him in this game…

by Nathan S. on Nov 27, 2009 10:07 PM EST reply actions

JOB's offense is "no offense"

When your 1, 2, and 3 stand at the arc and your 4 and 5 stand at the elbows there won’t be any rebounding. There has to be some form of motion offense. At least one or two back cuts a posssession. No need to run Knight’s offense but passing around the arc twice and chucking it is terrible strategy even in the pros.
