If I could turn back the hands of time..

What would we do in 2008?  Im sitting here bored at work the day before Thanksgiving, and thought it would be cool to check out last years draft.  Are we happy with the results???  Roy has us all giddy, Rush has been both sides of the coin, and Bayless (our original pick) hasnt done a darn thing.  Heck , Portland brought in Andre Miller this year to put in over him, lacking depth at the PG.  But being that PG is our most needed position, would it have been better to keep him?  Check it out

Star-divide

Here are the results from NBA.com for the draft last year.  Looking back on it, I think it is safe to say Roy was an absolute steal!  Not even close.  If they redrafted, starting from Chicago, I'd say from what we have seen so far, he goes in the top 10.  It is tough to find a young, coachable, talented, legit center, and this year it seems we really have found it.

Now on to the Rush pick.  I would still take Rush over Bayless. I think Rush becomes a solid Defender, 3rd option type guy a year or two from now, while Bayless is still struggling to get PT.  Going back, if we had that pick again I would obviosly take Roy there, but for everyone else after, I think the only players I would have rather drafted at this point are Anthony Randolph - definitely (who is probably just going to be a complete animal once Don Nelson is let go), MAAAAYBBBEEE think about Courtney Lee but I'd still rather have Rush, and probably take his college running-mate Mario Chalmers over him for our lack of PG.  Chalmers started all 82 games at PG for a playoff team last year, not bad for a rook.  All in all, I think Bird did a hell of a Job in this draft looking back a year later, what do you guys think?

hmmm we did pretty well...

Maybe would have been nice to have a guy like Ryan Anderson for when we let Murph go. Or to have gotten Christ Douglas Roberts now in hind site. I would rather have CDR than rush, and gotten Roy from Toronto and picked up Ryan Anderson, and traded Murph for someone else?

Of course all of this is now in hind sight, if it would have actually happened this way I probably would have thrown my TV out the window.

HIbbert was a steal

Rush… ugh… I don’t see what a lot of people see. I think he sucks

I’d take..

- Randolph… he will be an animal once nelson is gone
- Speights… he is averaging 13 and 6 on 60% shooting
- Hickson: only 21, i like what I see when I see them play, + averaging 8+ on a good percentage
- Anderson: averaging double digits right now
- Batum: started all year last year, is hurt now but I actually liked what i saw. for a playoff team too
- Lee: he isn’t that good but he is better than Rush
- Chalmers

and I might think about bayless too… he is still young and he would get more playing time and more time to develop on our shit team compared to portland.

IMO… Rush was a whiff. I don’t think he will develop into anything but a 10th-12th man.

Bayless

The thing about Bayless is that he is still two years younger than Rush. He is buried behind the perfect point guard for that team in Steve Blake. They don’t need a point guard to do any scoring and not even really that much ball handling since Brandon Roy does that a lot of the time for them.

I think Bayless still has a chance to be really good, he’s just not a good fit for that team. Brandon Rush on the other hand isn’t really a good fit for anything but the end of the bench.

I think this is the wrong draft to look at. Others screwed us far worse.

How about having no pick in 2007 in exchange for one year of Al Harrington? (At #11 we could’ve gotten Rudy Fernandez or Rodney Stuckey.)

Most of all, most indefensibly, look at 2006. The Pacers took that waste of space Shawne Williams over Rajon frickin’ Rondo! AGHHHHHH!!!!

We’ve basically had one really good pick in my time as a Pacers fan and that was the most “NO FRICKIN DUH WE’RE TAKING THIS GUY, HOW IS IS STILL HERE?” pick; Mr. Granger.

If Larry Bird was named James Smith he’d have been fired by now.

Not looking back...

the Shawne Williams pick was when we took him over Marcus Williams right? I remember not knowing about Shawne, but really really wanting Marcus. I dont even think he is in the league anymore, last I remember he was at Golden State?

Marcus Williams

He is playing here in Memphis. Had a really good training camp and was playing well when he got time early this season.

Stuck behind Mike Conley and Jamaal Tinsley right now.

FWIW

Bayless is playing REALLY well in limited minutes this year. Shooting better than 48% from the floor.

Jason Thompson

A lot of people aren’t realizing how badly Jason Thompson is tearing up other forwards in the west. I wouldve taken him other then Rush.

Yep, I’ve mentioned before that I’d rather have him running with our first team than Murphy. But people were in love with B Rush.
