Game Thread #10: Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers

Cleveland Cavaliers at Indiana Pacers, Nov 20, 2009 7:00 PM EST

@
Indiana Pacers
8-45-4
Novermber 20, 2009 - 7:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Mo Williams PG T.J. Ford
Anthony Parker SG Brandon Rush
LeBron James SF Dahntay Jones
J.J. Hickson PF Danny Granger
Zydrunas Ilgauskas C Roy Hibbert

The Indiana Pacers try to start up a fresh winning streak when they take on LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at Conseco Fieldhouse. Yes, one can be a winning streak.

The Pacers should have no problem getting up for this one, with a capacity crowd electrifying the joint they'll need to tap into that energy to keep Mo Williams in check and then make sure LeBron doesn't just take over the game and single-handedly carry the Cavs to a win. Last year, Danny Granger was real feisty with LeBron and seemed to relish the challenge. Even got the better of him for a win in one of the games. I'm expecting much of the same tonight.

LeBron will be playing with a minor wrist injury and without Shaq and Anderson Varejao in the front court. Now I'm not advocating dirty play here, but if JOB simply lets Tyler Hansbrough play for a few minutes with LeBron on the court, there's a pretty good chance that Bron's wrist may be left worse for wear after a few minutes. Just a thought.

Star-divide

Earlier today, T.J. Ford tweeted about he and Dahntay Jones.

False statement about @tj_ford @dahntay1 having beef.. We're family headed for the same goals.. My man since college..

Personally, I never thought the two players had a beef based on the failed fast break in question early in the Knicks game on Wednesday. I just didn't like T.J.'s public dramatics over Dahntay making a poor judgment on the break.

Diener out 4-6 weeks

Had surgery today on his bothersome toe.

OMG NO!

what will we do without him

:D

guarding LeBron

JOB plans to start with Dahntay but expects Danny and Rush to spend time on him as well. As he put it, they have 18 fouls to work with and hopefully they won’t need them all.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 6:22 PM EST reply actions

Mike Dunleavy

JOB expects Dunleavy to be available for game minutes by the middle of NEXT week.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 6:23 PM EST reply actions

Murph is available tonight

off the bench. Foster remains out but expects to play on Sunday. Plans to use Murph plenty off the bench and has no problem playing him with Hansbrough at the same time.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 6:24 PM EST reply actions

OK

Now Murph is starting along with TJ, Rush, Danny and Roy according to the just-released lineups.

So apparently, JOB is not planning to begin with Dahntay on LeBron. Hmmm. Guess we’ll see at tip time.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 6:28 PM EST reply actions

Seriously, tip time for the starters

Despite what’s been submitted, there may be late change with Dahntay starting which wouldn’t be a change at all since JOB just talked about it 40 minutes ago.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 6:30 PM EST up reply actions

good… last thing we need is granger in foul trouble again

by dbcb on Nov 20, 2009 6:50 PM EST up reply actions

Tip time

nice buzz in the Fieldhouse. Bron always brings it.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions

Love seeing the fieldhouse full like this.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:14 PM EST up reply actions

Good indicator

Rush knocks down his first 3 with no hesitation

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:16 PM EST reply actions

Rush

From 3-point land…that’s a relief

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:16 PM EST reply actions

No no no

LeBron throws a behind the back pass for Hickson, takes two bounces and hits Parker in the corner for a three.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

Big Z

Crazy that this guy is still rockin it in the NBA. If only Smits could have had that durability.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:23 PM EST reply actions

What?

They didn’t show this on TV

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

He was well past half court giving it to the ref

was T’d up once and just kept going. Ref sent him packin’.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Great

Well, I say if the interim coach wins then he gets the job.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

JOB

so will he come on here and chat during the rest of the game? I mean, what else is he going to do?

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

Ouch

Flying LeBron skipped the perimeter on that possession.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:28 PM EST reply actions

WOW

Cavs up 29-28 with 3:02 left in 1Q.

Buckets galore.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

Dahntay

Thank you Jones for keeping us in this game. It’s much appreciated.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

Love Earl

tried his best to have the foul on Granger called on himself.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:33 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough

just stunned LeBron by knocking down an 18-footer in Bron’s face. Bron literally stopped dead in his tracks for a second. Classic.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough enters

Hope he exceeds the 20-minute mark from the other night. Love seeing his minutes continue to rise.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Granger ties it up at the buzzer, 38-38

Wow, LeBron 7-7 from the floor. Defense optional tonight.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

Exciting and fun

Let’s see if we can keep this intensity up for a sequential quarter. That would be phenomenal.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:39 PM EST reply actions

Whoa

Hansbrough sizes up Ziggy and scores over him at the hoop.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:43 PM EST reply actions

Welcome to the future of the NBA, Ziggy.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

Murphy

Good to see him back on the court again.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:44 PM EST reply actions

He just crushed Varejao for a jump ball situation. Didn’t seem to mind the contact.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

Ooo

nice pull for Mo Williams. That’s a pro trigger from 3 land.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 7:51 PM EST reply actions

Backcourt

Pacers starting backcourt has 15 combined points tonight. Big B-I-G improvement over the New York game. Gotta get good performances out of Ford and Rush to have chances in these games.

by spstevenson on Nov 20, 2009 7:52 PM EST reply actions

Ack

Dahntay stripped LeBron but took off without the ball. Bron missed the jumper but guess who, cleaned it up (Varejao).

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

lmao at “guess who” please say intentional sideshow bob reference?

by 15ks on Nov 20, 2009 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

Weak 5th on Roy

LeBron ran into him, nowhere to go.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 8:38 PM EST reply actions

Survived

Quarters of scoring 23 and 21. lets not tempt fateby going for the teens in the fourth ala the knicks game

by 15ks on Nov 20, 2009 8:53 PM EST reply actions

odd lineup right now

probably haven’t played togegther before. Need to find some offense until Danny returns.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 8:56 PM EST reply actions

Cavs up 1

Pacers offense trying to get going again.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 9:04 PM EST reply actions

2:21 left, Cavs up 6

Need a hero and a thief to pull this one out.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

plenty of time if those characters emerge but i’d hate to say i warned the guys… 10 points in 4th with said 2:21 left

by 15ks on Nov 20, 2009 9:17 PM EST up reply actions

thanks andy

Varejao fouls Muprh with 1:16 to go, keeping hope alive…sort of.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

varejo never does seem to put anybody away, sorta leaves it to chance with elaborate schemes

by 15ks on Nov 20, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

LeBron dagger

No stopping that 3-ball. Cavs up 7 with 52 seconds left. Need a miracle.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 20, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

Pacers can't make a shot or commit a foul

at least the ref wouldn’t call one on TJ and Danny as they tried to slap the ball out of LBJ’s hands.
