Game Thread #8: Indiana Pacers at New Jersey Nets

Indiana Pacers at New Jersey Nets, Nov 17, 2009 7:30 PM EST

Indiana Pacers
@

4-30-10
November 17, 2009 - 7:30PM EST
Izod Center
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
T.J. Ford PG Rafer Alston
Brandon Rush SG Terrence Williams
Dahntay Jones SF Trenton Hassell
Danny Granger PF Josh Boone
Roy Hibbert C Brook Lopez

The last time the Indiana Pacers played on the road they were trying to halt their season-opening winless streak. This time they're trying to maintain a winning streak while keeping the New Jersey Nets winless on the season.

Jim O'Brien has no plans to change what has been working, which means Danny Granger will continue to start at power forward, creating an interesting matchup with Josh Boone which might force Lawrence Frank to consider using Edward Najera and/or Chris Douglas-Roberts more than usual. Also, Pike's own Courtney Lee appears fit and ready to return after missing the past four games. So the Nets have options to go small and run with the Pacers, which means the Pacers must show up and play with the relentless energy and focus they've talked about in order to extend the winning streak to five.

For a New Jersey perspective, Nets Daily and Nets Are Scorching have you covered.

Looking forward to tonight's game

This will be a good test to see how far the team has come from last year. So far, 3rd quarters have been better this year, will playing down to the level of their opponent be improved?

I have been busy as of late, but am going to try to watch as much of the game as I can. Lets get ’em boys! Go Pacers!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 6:17 PM EST reply actions

I wonder what's if any other player in NBA history hasn't lost a game in which they've played

Psycho T’s mere presence has resulted in a 3-0 record for the Pacers

am I looking waaaaaay too into this LOL?

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 6:48 PM EST reply actions

Avoid the trap

Like in Resident Evil 4, at the beginning, you don’t go off that trail, cause there’s a bear trap or two out there and they hurt.

I don’t think this game should be close, but it probably will be. Nets offense shouldn’t be a concern, but they can hold opponents. A quick start would be nice, but as long as we get a stretch of possessions that end in points, we should be all right. It’d take a devastating defensive performance for the Nets to beat us offensively, I think.

Matchup of the night is Roy Hibbert vs. Brook Lopez. Lopez is one of the best young centers in the league, and Roy’s going to be going up against him for a long time. We’ll get to see how well the team has progressed from last year tonight, but I think we’ll also get a really good look at how far Roy has come as well.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 6:52 PM EST reply actions

well the Nets are getting healthier

and Lee returns tonight. I just can’t see the letdown tonight. However, the Pacers are more likely to lose today than tomorrow. The Nets are talented and they can’t forget that

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 6:54 PM EST up reply actions

Without Devin Harris

I still don’t think there’s enough offense to beat us if we show up to play. Obviously good enough to beat them by just stepping on the court, but even though I will be disappointed if we lose, I’ll be more disappointed if we lose to the Nets offense.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

Obviously *not* good enough...

Don’t want to compare this game to the Colts/Rams.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

yea I understood what you meant

I’m just anxious to see how this team responds to their sudden resurgence.. and what’s even weirder our 3rd quarters have been STRONG this year. The 3rd quarter curse is over or is it?

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Nice Resident Evil 4 reference

Loved that game. 5 wasn’t as good, but did have the co-op feature that was cool. You play Boderlands yet?

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:14 PM EST up reply actions

I didn't play 5

As I didn’t like the demo, and never really cared for any RE game except for 4 which was awesome. I also haven’t played Borderlands. How is it?

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

Its good

Fun shoot-em-up game. I’m not that big of a gamer, but do enjoy playing from time to time!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

I've been falling away from gaming over the past couple of years

But I’m a big RPG fan, so I’ve been intrigued by the stuff Borderland does. I’ve started getting into sports games more as I love sports games that have my player modes. I usually only get a new sports game every few years, but I may have to break that to get 2K10 even though I bought 2K9 last year.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:22 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I more of an action/adventure fan

So Borderlands gives me that. The RPG part adds an interesting twist. I haven’t played many sports games, but love FIFA. I play Madden, but not well, so I give up easy!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I broke down and got a twitter

I thought it was pointless but kept finding all these websites and people i wanted updates on….it’s pretty neat

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:04 PM EST reply actions

off-topic

how many Pacers have Twitter?

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

Aside from T.J. and Danny

I’m not sure. I signed up for Twitter and started following some people, but haven’t checked it in about six months. I tried searching for Pacers at that point, but no one came up.

I do think Hansbrough has one, but I don’t know how often he updates it.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:15 PM EST up reply actions

Granger's tweet from yesterday LMAO

so i get in the elevator and the girl walking out of it left a little surprise for me… i know farts supposed to smell but dang woman!

haha. Danny is the man

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

Well I just saw the Nets have 8 players dressed out for this game

sounds like us? or do we only have 8 players dressed lol? anyway hopefully the Pacers keep up that fast pace with the 4 guards in the lineup and just tired out the Nets by the half

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions

We should be thankful

For our injuries compared to the Nets, haha. It looks like Courtney Lee is going to be out tonight.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:12 PM EST up reply actions

Stacy

Has some of the most enthusiastic sarcasm I’ve ever heard. She’s also letting a southern accent slip through a lot, haha. I’d be concerned, but her “y’all” is funny.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:11 PM EST reply actions

is it just me or has she gotten more beautiful this year

or maybe I’m just noticing her…a lot better than Doris Burke! Us Pacer fans should be thankful for our baseline reporter.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions

Danny sees what we all see

Hopefully he gets the guys amped for tonight.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:26 PM EST reply actions

Go Pacers!

Annual health study shows that Indiana is the 15th unhealthiest state, right behind Florida. Indiana is #7 in obesity.

Those are actually improvements.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

Nope.

I might have to watch some sort of game cast.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

word i can usually refresh 50 times and get it

i got the game audio though. I might just get the direct pass for TV since I had trouble with the internet version last season

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

Lots of improvements

for League Pass for the computer this year. Like the HD feeds, thats a big improvement!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:41 PM EST up reply actions

Roy needs to outplay Lopez

But I’ll take Danny to have the best game.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

Good point

and a good matchup between young bigs!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

I'll go with a suprise

McRoberts brings a lot of energy off the bench. 8 points, 5 boards, 2 blocks, and a nice dish to Granger for a dunk in limited minutes

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Nice

I love the underdog choice!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Trenton Hassell

Do I lose my NBA fandom license if I say I’ve never heard of this dude before?

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions

I forgot that Mike Fratello does NJ games

Chicago and New Orleans have the worst announcers. Clipper announcers are actually good.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 7:44 PM EST reply actions

I don't want to say I overestimated the Nets

But what kind of professional team doesn’t have a functional inbound play?

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:44 PM EST reply actions

Everyone said this was a trap game...

Maybe it’s a ploy to get the Pacers off their game.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

yea i found that out

but it was absolutely horrible for me…like pausing every 5 seconds

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:47 PM EST up reply actions

I love the zone defense

But I don’t love that Indiana just sucked a whole lot against it.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:48 PM EST reply actions

Boom baby!

Danny is looking a LOT better out there.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:53 PM EST reply actions

you lucky dawgs

getting to hear “Ball Don’t Lie” moments tonight

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions

Purdy

Nice leave for Solo from DJones

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 7:55 PM EST reply actions

Mean block by Danny

Luther Head makes the play pay off.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Nice dime Danny

Love seeing the steal cashed in for a bucket again.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

Anyway

The Nets are making some of the dumbest turnovers period.

Pacers need to get this game out of reach more than they have.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:17 PM EST reply actions

Agreed

Nice we have a 10pt lead, but feel it should be more…

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

Saved the thread from some vile comments

from some of that ugly play the Pacers put on display.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions

ROY

Nice up and under for the big man. Special K is going nuts.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 8:21 PM EST reply actions

I wonder how many games Clark is slated to call?

Probably not that many soon because of the college basketball season.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 8:22 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think

The regular season affects the Pacers calls that often, since CBS only runs college ball on the weekends.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:25 PM EST up reply actions

OK

Roy and Lopez are trading blows now. Roy has six in a row!

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 8:21 PM EST reply actions

Man

Clark Kellogg about exploded through my television set.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:23 PM EST reply actions

The Nets announcers just said:

“Douglas-Roberts got pass McRoberts with a McBucket.”

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 8:26 PM EST reply actions

Free throw battle

Knotted at 11, Pacers up one in makes at 10-9.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions

Sooo

this is the Pacers vs Lopez and CDR. Pacers better come up with the win!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:29 PM EST reply actions

So we all know the wall

That teams have trouble getting over when they’re trailing, can there be a wall for a team that’s winning? We just can’t seem to get the lead over 11 or 12.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:30 PM EST reply actions

Lopez with 17 already

I was hoping we could hold him to 17 all night. Ugh…

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:31 PM EST reply actions

I don't have any stats open, but it looks like the Nets are controlling the paint

with rebounds and close shots. I suppose this is something that will be an issue all year?

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 8:33 PM EST reply actions

Offensive rebounds

Don’t know any numbers, but I imagine they’re overwhelmingly in favor of New Jersey.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Disgusting play here late

Shot is cold, offensive rebounds are even colder, and the Nets are getting tons of second chances.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:37 PM EST reply actions

A very winnable game

Lets blow this wide open in the third!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:41 PM EST reply actions

Rebounding

Is why this game is where it is.

Not only boxing out better, but actually holding onto rebounds when you have them.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:43 PM EST reply actions

This old jersey trade in is pretty cool

Shame I have this “bad habit” of not buying a player’s jersey unless I’m 100% sure they’re sticking around for a long time, which is why I only got my Granger jersey last year.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:44 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

I have a useless O’Neal jersey. It was a great purchase 6 years ago!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:49 PM EST up reply actions

Never got that far

I was still rocking Reggie, haha.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:51 PM EST up reply actions

You

can still get away with that one!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

I did have an authentic Reggie FloJo

But I have no clue where it went! I’d rock that every chance I got if I could find it. :(

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

The 90-97 jerseys

The generics didn’t have the stripes on the side, but the one I had did.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

i got a Workman jersey

and I’ll be damned if I trade it in! LOL

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

Haha

I wouldn’t have guessed they even made those!

Speaking of old players, every time I’m at the Conseco shop, I have to fight off the urge to buy the Jalen Rose pinstripe, but I have no clue why I want a Jalen Rose jersey.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

i got it custom made lol

i really don’t know why but it seemed like a good idea at the time

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

Haha

hold on to that bad boy!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 8:55 PM EST up reply actions

I am really excited by this team

and no that’s not premature observations…they really got something going here. I’m learning not to doubt the man in the office.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

Beautiful ball movement

I was almost not worthy enough to watch it!

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 8:57 PM EST reply actions

For some reason I keep wondering

if Rush and CDR are gonna go sit at the bar after the game and watch the Memphis/Kansas game..

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 8:58 PM EST reply actions

Hungry Hungry Hibbert!

I think it helps I was a Georgetown fan..it’s easy to love the big fella.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 8:59 PM EST reply actions

I'm always proud

To say I called Davidson over Georgetown.

That’s about the extent of my interest in the Hoyas, but I’m starting to really dig the Hoya we have.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

i was at that game

took my then-current girlfriend who was a UNC fan (UNC-Arkansas played after GU-Davidson) well Arkasas didnt…but anyway that was a heartbreaker…we had such a talented and deep team with a lot of seniors.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

that game was BS though

well Curry just took over but they kept calling bogus fouls of Hibs..but he was just so much bigger than everyone else. I think it works to his disadvantage. He didn’t play much in the game when we needed him but he couldn’t. Wallace (the PG) was always my fav. and he forgo the NBA to pursue Law School.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

That was one heck of a play by Watson. I wish that were a stat.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:05 PM EST reply actions

Ooo

that was a pretty good look from Lopez.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

And that

Was an iffy play by Luther with no time left on the clock. I’m glad that’s not a stat.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions

Sweet play Luther

Second unit needs to keep it around ten.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 9:09 PM EST reply actions

does Alson have any eyebrows

he looks really weird without any-type of hair on his head

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

“You know the ball has air in it, so you don’t have to test it.” I’m going to remember that quote forever.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

Wha???

Oh, I thought that was on Hansbro. ACK!

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 9:13 PM EST reply actions

Ugh

11 points this quarter, and it started so promising

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 9:15 PM EST reply actions

29% since the first quarter

Well, lower now after that B.Rush miss.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

Could've really used a bucket

To close out the third on a high note. Instead it turns into a turnover.

Put the third quarter behind you, boys. It’s game time.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Winning time

Danny? Dahntay? T.J.? Who’s up for the challenge?

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 9:21 PM EST reply actions

Not the score I wanted

Just realized what the score was, and this is how you let the Nets stay alive, but only having 67 points after three.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

Lopez

“That’s like, totally not awesome, man.”

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Anyone know the blocks stats?

Im counting 5 for Hibbert.. that may be wrong

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:29 PM EST reply actions

that's wrong

Hibbert, Jones, Granger each have 2

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

Yahoo

has 2 for Hibby, 2 for Granger

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

Love that defense

Where the hell is the offense?

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:29 PM EST reply actions

Wow - I missed the entire 3rd quarter

judging by the score, it looked putrid.

by Gwen on Nov 17, 2009 9:33 PM EST reply actions

Whole second half

Has been pretty putrid.

Both teams playing fine defense, but both teams are sucking it up on offense. Nets, that’s expected, Pacers, not so much.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

Roy probably gets a career high tonight

Lopez has been really good, but Roy has done more than held his own. This is the birth of a great center battle.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

Ford

just doesn’t have it tonight.. I wonder if his back is still bothering him

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:39 PM EST reply actions

Keeping the Nets at arms' length

I’d like to just not have them close.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

Nets within six

Three to go.

Need some offense, kids.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:42 PM EST reply actions

DAGGER.

Earl Watson, you have saved us!

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:46 PM EST reply actions

Lopez gassed

Don’t even have him rebounding the FT.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:48 PM EST reply actions

Offense

Picked a great time to come to life. A trio of daggers make this finale Daggerific.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:50 PM EST reply actions

D. Jones with another good night

17 pts 5 boards 4 assists 3 steals and 1 to

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 9:52 PM EST reply actions

Danny also getting six boards

I love these rebounding numbers from him.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:53 PM EST reply actions

Pacers...

5-3. I feel like a Bengals fan.

by Nathan S. on Nov 17, 2009 9:55 PM EST reply actions

Haha

Ugly win, but a win nonetheless!

by jantz101 on Nov 17, 2009 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

Well Hans didn't play well today

but the Pacers are now 4-0 when he does play..I’ll take that.

by RIPShea on Nov 17, 2009 9:56 PM EST reply actions

Pacers win 91-83

Ugly win, but it looks pretty in the standings.

by Tom Lewis on Nov 17, 2009 9:57 PM EST reply actions

Hibbert and Lopez both played well

this could be a great center matchup for years and years

by Jamison1 on Nov 17, 2009 9:59 PM EST reply actions

Back at home

Against the Knicks. I feel a little easier about tomorrow’s game, but still need to play better. Knicks can put points on the board.
