Game Thread #6: Golden State Warriors at Indiana Pacers

Golden State Warriors at Indiana Pacers, Nov 11, 2009 7:00 PM EST

@
Indiana Pacers
2-42-3
Novermber 11, 2009 - 7:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Monta Ellis PG T.J. Ford
Stephen Curry SG Brandon Rush
Kelena Azubuike SF Dahntay Jones
Stephen Jackson PF Danny Granger
Mikki Moore C Roy Hibbert

The Indiana Pacers host the Golden State Warriors tonight at Conseco Fieldhouse. Both teams like to push the ball up and down the floor, although the Pacerse have won their past two games relying on less points and more defense.

On the other hand, the Warriors won their last game by wearing out the scoreboard with 146 points. Normally I'd say the first one to 120 wins, but tonight maybe 120 is the over/under for the win. Pacers win by keeping it under 120 and the Warriors win by going over 120. Of course, the teams rank 1st (GSW) and 3rd (IND) in pace so maybe 130 is more like it except a race to 130 just seems absurd.

The Warriors and Pacers actually match up pretty well. The Warriors have a little more depth in terms of offensive weapons who can get out and run and score from the arc or at the rim. The Pacers should see an advantage in the paint with Andris Biedrens out and Roy Hibbert enjoying a size advantage in the paint. Needless to say, the Pacers' defense will be put to the test and just in case, the blue and gold better start knocking down shots at a better rate than they have lately.

Regardless of the outcome, games against the Warriors are always entertaining. For a Golden State perspective check out Golden State of Mind.

If we can't play defense

To the level we have been the past couple of games, I don’t know if we have the firepower to keep pace with what the Warriors can do.

If we can, I think this game can swing in our favor pretty easily. It’s hard to call this one until I can see how the game shapes up. Should be an extremely high scoring affair, however. Hopefully we can match wits if it gets too epic.

Defense

will be key in this one. Forcing the Warriors to take bad shots will be paramount to win number 3

by jantz101 on Nov 11, 2009 7:08 PM EST up reply actions

Stay classy, Jax

“You know me. I just want to win. I get upset when the priority isn’t winning.” to explain why he wanted out. Which is fine. But then he goes on to say, “Over the past couple of years, a lot of guys were worrying about contracts and not about the team. Now we’ve got a lot of young guys that just want to win.”

So is the focus of the team to win or not? I can’t tell.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 6:48 PM EST reply actions

Dude

don’t spend that much time trying to get in Jackson’s head, he is a confused man! He is one of those people who needs drama to survive. I think the Warriors are gonna go Tinsley on him in a couple of weeks.

Hate to miss out on these exciting game threads

but I got dinner at the in-laws tonight. I will be rootin’ the team on though! Go Pacers!

by jantz101 on Nov 11, 2009 7:02 PM EST reply actions

Whew

Dinner at the in-laws…always a mixed bag. We’ll keep things rockin’ for ya!

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:03 PM EST up reply actions

I'd be all about watching the Champions League

But I still can’t figure out how it’s done. It never seems to end, haha.

Starters

Granger, Jones, Hibbert, Ford and Rush

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions

Azubuike

I like this guy. I hope he doesn’t kill us.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:10 PM EST reply actions

Love it

Went straight to Hibbert in the post on the first play..no points..but good idea

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:12 PM EST reply actions

Looks like that better happen a lot early as Hibby already fouls

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

Go Pacers!

lets get this team back to .500

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 7:15 PM EST reply actions

we’re gonna boo anyone associated with that brawl until the day they die

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

We're doing well

In forcing the Warriors into bad shots.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:18 PM EST reply actions

Why not have another injury

Ford is hurt with something..heading to the locker room..awesome

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:19 PM EST reply actions

Grabbed his back

Maybe we get to see AJ Price

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

16-2 run

For the Pacers. Yeah, I’ll take it.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

BOOM BABY!

Wells’ report about Granger being so pissed off at himself for missing shots after practice was cool. Hopefully he got his groove back as they say.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:20 PM EST reply actions

I don’t know if he’s still got a 16-minute time limit or not..im guessing we wont see more than 20 from him

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:22 PM EST up reply actions

16 minutes

he’s on the pitch count again

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

I’m surprised he wasn’t just announced DOA…why can’t we ever just be healthy?!? ugh

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:23 PM EST up reply actions

ford

if ford was gonna get injured, better it happen against the warrors instead of someone like the celts..always lookin for a positive!

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 7:25 PM EST reply actions

Warriors

Inching their way back. Kill the run, guys.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:26 PM EST reply actions

hans!

glad to see him again..i’m pumped about him

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 7:27 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough in

Just in time to be hit with a foul.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:27 PM EST reply actions

Man

Hansbrough just owned that rebound…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:28 PM EST reply actions

Wow

Hans is ridiculous…awesome drive and dunk

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:28 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough Foul #2

No sense in pulling him, I guess.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:29 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough

I will say that I can’t remember the last time where I was so glued to the tv just to watch one player on the Pacers…he’s got that something that’s for sure

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:30 PM EST reply actions

I'm starting to really get excited about him

I mean, he’s played what, 15 minutes of game action? And he’s been able to do so much already? We may actually have a ROTY candidate for the first time since Chuck Person.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

damnit

How’d that kid get so many freakin player autographs on his authentic jersey? Too jealous…

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:32 PM EST reply actions

Hansbrough Foul #3

Really struggling with fouls and getting into a zone defensively.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:34 PM EST reply actions

GO Pacers

I’m here struggling through this stream..Hans has 3 fouls already..

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 7:34 PM EST reply actions

Ugh

The refs are gonna really make me sit through a long game tonight. I’m gonna need a beer.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

Curry in

Picked up a foul already.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions

That dish for Watson

Was almost really awesome….but it gave points to the wrong team.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:36 PM EST reply actions

Curry looks like he's 14

and the Pacers really cannot pass. Just hand the ball off, for real.

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Granger not driving

Don’t settle. Drive once in a while.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:37 PM EST reply actions

Watson

Doing a better Brad Miller impression by actually draining the 3

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

Watson!!

Instant three points when he shoots!

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:38 PM EST reply actions

4-of-5 from 3 land

Now that’s how you get back on the wagon quickly. Good game to find our shooting touch finally.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST reply actions

On Pace for 240

And neither team has really taken off offensively yet.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:39 PM EST reply actions

that's crazy

but it’s also fun..let em play refs!

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

No three pointers attempted for the Warriors in the first quarter.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions

Like Hansbrough getting to the line

But I think I want him shooting a little better than 70% when he gets there. Wasn’t he a mid-high 80’s shooter in college?

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:42 PM EST reply actions

MAN

Hansbrough is hungry for a dunk.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:42 PM EST reply actions

Bad idea for a drinking game

Take a shot every time Tyler Hansbrough draws a foul.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:46 PM EST reply actions

lol

I wish they kept that stat. He must have, what, 3 or 4 already? How many big man rookies are able to do that in just their second game? The guy looks like he played college for 4 years.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Didn't this happen last year?

Celtics came in the same weekend the Pats did…

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 7:50 PM EST reply actions

Yeah

He’s really coming along well here. Can’t wait to get him settled into more consistency.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:51 PM EST up reply actions

I've seen the Pacers

play worse than they’re playing tonight, haha.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:52 PM EST up reply actions

Defense

I’d say defense takes an even more backseat than usual for tonight

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:53 PM EST up reply actions

We get a huge advantage in this game

If we can keep Randolph on the bench. Moore can’t match the offense Randolph can put up.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:53 PM EST reply actions

Fun fact

That last field goal attempt by A.J. Price was his first NBA attempt inside of the three point arc.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:54 PM EST reply actions

Jones

Almost forgot he was playing tonight. He’s got a quiet six points except for the thunder dunk off the Hibbert assist. Seems like he’s been able to blend better in the offense tonight instead of trying to force too much.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions

I'd ask

If anyone has tried the new Hardee’s Big Hardee sandwich, but seeing as everyone’s still alive, I’ll take it as a no.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:56 PM EST reply actions

I’d need a few drinks and other types of medicinal recreation to be that hungry

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'll occasionally have a McDonald's Mushroom Swiss Angus burger

I can hear my arteries clogging up but sometimes you have to enjoy your food

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

Safe Auto

Hansbrough needs to replace Michael Redd as the spokesman for Safe Auto…things could get phenomenal if that happened

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 7:57 PM EST reply actions

Watson

Mr. Automatic. Sound good?

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 7:58 PM EST reply actions

Wow

I don’t know if anyone else caught Stephen Curry’s reaction to that Hibbert o-board and basket, but he just dropped his shoulders, like “You’ve gotta be kidding me.”

The little things you notice in an NBA game.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

Rush

Flirting with the Ben Wallace line. Needs to pick it up at the line.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:00 PM EST reply actions

Don't look now

but it looks like we’ve finally been practicing some fast break drills in practice

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:01 PM EST reply actions

Danny playing like a leader

Saying, “Hey, Brandon, I know you have confidence issues, so lay this in and man up.”

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:01 PM EST reply actions

lol

rush’s confidence issues are great fodder…i love it

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:03 PM EST up reply actions

I'm upset

They don’t show the Danny Granger in Phoenix shot in this NBA buzzer beater commercial. Grr..

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:03 PM EST reply actions

no crap

that has to be in there! it was so frickin sweet!!

by blueandgold24 on Nov 11, 2009 8:04 PM EST up reply actions

it's a shame

we can’t fill the seats…this team is a young, fun team to watch! if i didn’t live in South Carolina I would definitely visit more often..try to go to 1 or 2 games a year and always when they play the Bobcats in Charlotte.

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:05 PM EST reply actions

86 points

Against who else but Golden State in 1990..that was the first half record

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

84 points

2nd half record against Houston in 1979

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

No clue

But the NBA record is 107. Suns led the Nuggets 107-67 at the end of the first

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

Basketball-reference

Most amazing site ever.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199011100PHO.html

Those are the end stats, but the Suns shot a cool 64% and put up 173 by the end. Not bad.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:15 PM EST up reply actions

I don't know if it was a charge or not

But I said “Charge” as the play was unfolding. May not have been, but it was going to be called on and it was.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

Speaking of Buzzer Beaters...

Reggie over Jordan or Rik Smits over Tree Rollins and Orlando?

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:06 PM EST reply actions

Game pace under 240

But not because of the Pacers.

I’ll take a seventeen point halftime lead any chance I get.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:10 PM EST reply actions

3rd quarter coming up

hasn’t been too bad for us this year either…all i know is we haven’t lost with hansbrough playing and i was the biggest anti-pyscho-t guy..i wanted blair but i’m warming up to the idea

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:10 PM EST reply actions

to conquer the beast you have to face the beast…in our case…in order to dissolve the “urban legend” that is the 3rd quarter you have to mention it by name.

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

I'm semi-watching the Cavs/Orlando game

Shaq is a mound and I’m not sure Dwight Howard is as nice of a guy people say he is. I have no basis of fact for that opinion.

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:11 PM EST reply actions

Granger

8-of-12 shooting (only 3 of those from beyond the arc), 17 points, 5 boards and 3 assists….i think he’s declaring his slump officially over

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions

Feels like a very quiet 17

Probably because Hansbrough and Hibbert are doing work loudly tonight.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:19 PM EST up reply actions

Second half

Off to a better start than the first half.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:25 PM EST reply actions

Jackson

2 points in five minutes in the first half…you can just see all of the teams lining up to trade for him

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:26 PM EST reply actions

Great - my feed went out

I don’t want to pay to watch the Pacers!!

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:28 PM EST reply actions

i had issues with with league pass last year too. that’s why i didn’t get it this year.

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:31 PM EST up reply actions

I may be tired

But that was a pretty crappy foul…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:29 PM EST reply actions

What the hell was that shot?

Why aren’t guys moving? Terrible set of possessions.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:31 PM EST reply actions

Sweet

Roy holding his hip. Why not tack on another injury? Let’s get to the point where we have to start Josh McRoberts for a few games….that’d be awesome.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:32 PM EST reply actions

Is David Craig still the trainer?

The ones they have now aren’t doing too well

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

He is not

I always wondered why they got rid of him, or why he decided to leave. I always thought he was very good.

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

Quinn Buckner

Finds it very humorous that Stephen Jackson would try and draw a foul. Love it.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:36 PM EST reply actions

ill go with energy

because we looked totally different for the first time this year.

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

But the free throw attempts

That’s something we really struggled with last year as well. He’s helping even that out almost singlehandedly these past couple of games.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:42 PM EST up reply actions

true

i didn’t look at it that way.. i looked at it as though he made his FTs but that’s always a strong suit for Indy

by RIPShea on Nov 11, 2009 8:44 PM EST up reply actions

Not really a wrong answer though

So it’s all good.

The things Tyler has been doing are some of the things we need. Just as long as he keeps it up.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

Tightly called game

Now a free for all.

You have to call the game the same all night, boys.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:43 PM EST reply actions

I'm still trying to pick my seasonal bandwagon team

The last few have been Miami, Houston and Portland, last year. Any suggestions. I was thinking of OKC…

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:46 PM EST reply actions

If you want a winner

I’d take Portland.

But I’m a huge fan of the Clippers talent even if their team is going to underachieve again this year.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

OKC is a good choice

But I’m a bit skeptical on their team this year. I think they’ll look a lot like our team did last year. Big wins all year, but bad losses all year as well.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:50 PM EST up reply actions

I like their upside, though. They seem to be a young exciting team to watch...

The Clippers are a no-go for me. They’re a train wreck and car crash rolled into one. Too bad, because I like Eric Gordan…they’re 1st pick already has a knee injury!

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:51 PM EST up reply actions

+their

my grammar and spelling is taking the night off.

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

It’s not going to be easy, but man, Gordon, Griffin (when he returns), DeAndre Jordan, Thornton. Love that core. Wish they’d win some games with it.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:54 PM EST up reply actions

Hansbrough

Love his effort, he needs to pass the ball from time to time.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:48 PM EST reply actions

One more quarter

Up 14. Need to keep the Warriors from getting closer.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:51 PM EST reply actions

Good thing we've got a cushion

Cause this Warriors offense is dangerous.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:55 PM EST reply actions

I'm going to look at the Pacer stats....

Earl Watson – 100% from the field
58% from 3
50% overall
40 rebounds
13 TOs

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:55 PM EST reply actions

Dumb fundamental breakdown there.

Just remember, don’t be Lamar Odom guys.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:55 PM EST reply actions

Can't believe

We have another fairly lengthy layoff before the next game. It’s kind of annoying…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 8:57 PM EST reply actions

Which means the rest of the season will be a bunch of back to backs

I haven’t looked at the schedule that thouroughly, but that’s what I think it will be

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

Not cool

It’s the dumbest thing. It’s good for the injuries, but it’s not cool for me. I need more games!!

by spstevenson on Nov 11, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

Cavs and Celtics

Have played eight or nine games, and we’re sitting at six after tonight. Us and Milwaukee are getting screwed over here early from getting to see our teams play.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:02 PM EST up reply actions

Telling you

We need to work on Randolph and get him out of this game. He’s going to inch them back in this thing…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:03 PM EST reply actions

Basketball in HD

Looks really good. You don’t really notice it until you flip over to the Cavs/Magic and notice how pretty it looks compared to your cruddy non-HD game.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:04 PM EST reply actions

HD period

Is wonderful. Basketball isn’t even one of the prettiest HD sports (those go to the grass sports), but it still looks great when I flip over to ESPN. Such clarity and vivid colors. Almost like being in the arena.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions

Jackson

From Mike Wells’ Twitter: Wells222 RT @gswscribe: Jackson starting 4th on the bench: “Do I look hurt?” he mouths to press row

Randolph

I don’t want to be prophetic here…but…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:06 PM EST reply actions

updates updates?

My feed went kablooey again

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions

When your opponent gets in the air, get to the line!

Danny shooting three. Good call. That was a three pointer.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:11 PM EST reply actions

Danny with the three shot boom baby

Lead back up to 12. Shade over five left.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Mannn...

Warriors can score fast.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Anthony Randolph is a machine.

Good thing we’re making defensive plays, cause this dude is doing work.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

Haha

Tyler comes out, but it looked like the hardest thing in the world for him.

You’ll get your time.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Refs

Are getting really picky about everything.

Roy brushes Maggette and gets called for the foul.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:20 PM EST reply actions

98-91

Just under three left.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:20 PM EST reply actions

Brandon dunk blocked by Randolph

Roy lays in the putback, Randolph comes down, gets the foul and gets a free throw. This guy isn’t even twenty!! I’m so jealous to not have him.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:22 PM EST reply actions

UGH....

Calls keeping us from finishing this game off! Refs calling EVERYTHING the Pacers do. Agh…

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:23 PM EST reply actions

Big shot by Curry

Glad it wasn’t a three. 102-94 Pacers with 1:21 left. Watson going to the line.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:25 PM EST reply actions

Granger's 16th rebound

Dagger of the Night.

Pacers win three straight!!

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:27 PM EST reply actions

Nice game Pacers :)

Balanced scoring too, rebounding, niiiiice.

by Gwen on Nov 11, 2009 9:30 PM EST reply actions

Danny

31 points, 16 boards. Great game. Rough finish, but put together enough to finish it off, again with some defensive stops to help.

See how far we really have come the past three games on Saturday.

by Nathan S. on Nov 11, 2009 9:32 PM EST reply actions

Sweet!!!
