Preseason Open Thread #2: Indiana Pacers vs. Denver Nuggets

Who's with me?

After flying out to Seattle on Wednesday morning, I decided I'd delay my time zone acclimation process a day so I can try to catch the Pacers game from Taipei against the Denver Nuggets. Of course, that means at 4:30AM local time I'll be here checking it out. I'm hoping the pressure of posting this early will help nudge me out of bed. No promises.

But I am looking forward to seeing the Pacers play again and the Nuggets will offer a surly challenge which combined with a fired-up Taiwanese crowd ought to be enough incentive to get up early.

Fox Sports Indiana and NBA TV will have the action starting at 7:30AM Eastern time.

I had to make a choice to watch this live

Or have this evening off to watch the Dodgers. Sorry, Tom, but I think I’ve got my priorities straight at the moment.

Heck, I don’t even know if I’ll be able to catch much of the replay tonight. And that is a bit of sadness. I’ll have to do the midnight madness game here in a few days. I’m itching to catch this team and get to basketball.

But I’m regretting it in the sense that I’m deaddd tired from having to be up until 2 a.m. EST to finish last night’s game. Blehhh.

Chris Denari chiming in from Taipei

Sweet! Pacers in their home whites with Boomer in the house.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:32 AM EDT reply actions

Starters

TJ, Granger, BRush, Murph and Solo..

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:32 AM EDT reply actions

At work

I can’t watch it. How’s Tyler looking? Does the suit fit him well?

by ThirtyOne on Oct 8, 2009 7:34 AM EDT up reply actions

A densive stop and a pair of Solo free throws. Good start for the Pacers.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:35 AM EDT reply actions

Danny for 3

then d’s up Melo to create a turnover.

5-2

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:37 AM EDT reply actions

Crowd is going nuts after every bucket

Granger hit another. Ugh, TJ offered up a bad TO with Pacers on a serious run

13-6 P’s

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:40 AM EDT reply actions

Granger could be Ray Allen deadly from 3pt line this year.

by INdymayneNVegas on Oct 8, 2009 7:40 AM EDT reply actions

Yay, Hibbert drew a foul before committing one.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:43 AM EDT reply actions

Love the crowds energy.

by INdymayneNVegas on Oct 8, 2009 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

Steal and the take by Dhantay

Overall solid defensive effort so far. (knocks on wood)

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

Jones just had a sweet rebound then turned it over trying to outlet it to McRoberts on the other end of the court. Then gave up the and 1 trying to smother Melo on the freebie going the other way.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:51 AM EDT reply actions

Earl Watson makes his debut

McBobs, Hibbert, Rush and Dhantay in as well. 5:31 left in 1Q, Pacers up 19-14

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:51 AM EDT reply actions

Bird on Hansbrough

Still hoping to get him back at the end of camp. In no hurry to rush him back into action.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:54 AM EDT reply actions

I agree

No sense in rushing someone who’s gonna score in the low single digits back to action. Let him rest up.

by ThirtyOne on Oct 8, 2009 8:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe it's the hour of the day

but this seems like the longest first quarter ever.

Pacers up 22-18 with 2:54 left in 1Q

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 7:59 AM EDT reply actions

Murph for another 3

I love the people of Taipei, they REALLY love the 3-ball!

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:04 AM EDT reply actions

Whoa

Hibbert rotated over to stuff Joey Graham’s offering at the rim. Not a step late on that one. Led to a break and free throws for TJ

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:06 AM EDT reply actions

Watson is showing his defense

Another steal and set up a break with an alley oop to Jones in traffic that got wedged in the rim.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

End 1Q

Pacers up 32-24. Defense and rebounding passes the grade for the first 12 minutes.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:07 AM EDT reply actions

Nice 15-footer from Roy

TJ and Watson have played together for a good stretch here.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:12 AM EDT reply actions

Real nice drive by Price

Picked up the foul and finished the bukcet.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:24 AM EDT reply actions

Next break Price was swallowed up by 3 Nuggs

Led to the Birdman firing up the crowd at the other end.

Pacers up 48-36

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:25 AM EDT reply actions

Luther Head in street clothes too

I knew someone was missing. YIKES, Dun as the Pacers gold blazer going again.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:31 AM EDT reply actions

Ack

Behind the back turnover from Ford. Good wit h the bad.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:32 AM EDT reply actions

Price hits a 3

Nice. Nuggs trying to make a run with Billups, Kmart and Melo back on the court.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:34 AM EDT reply actions

Demetrius Nichols on Melo

Even the replacement refs know which way that call will go.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:40 AM EDT reply actions

Half: Pacers up 68-54

Gotta love that effort in a fast paced game. Murph with 15 and Watson with 10 lead the scoring.

Team was 9-17 from 3-land.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:43 AM EDT reply actions

Hard to explain

but TJ Ford is actually playing well despite the 5 turnovers. I think he was on the court with every other player that saw time except for Nichols. played with Rush, Watson, Dhantay and AJ in backcourt.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 8:53 AM EDT reply actions

So far so good

Rush hits his 4th 3-ball, then TJ gets a strip forcing Nuggs to foul. Pacers up 76-60

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:05 AM EDT reply actions

Whoa

I think Roy just spun out of his body trying to finish a baseline jumper. Missed. Melo showed him how the spin move works at the other end.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:10 AM EDT reply actions

Roy with a little lefty in the lane

Roy is past 20 minutes with only 2 fouls, and he just had another block.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:26 AM EDT reply actions

Real nice take by Dhantay

Nice to see guys finishing drives with, you know, buckets!

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:27 AM EDT reply actions

ROY!!!

Followed JGraham through the lane and swatted the shot. Foot movement even more impressive than the block.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:30 AM EDT reply actions

I cant see the game right now...

but hibbs is kind of exciting me here.

Does anyone else get the text message updates after each quarter? Cause those have been pretty cool.

by shep31 on Oct 8, 2009 9:31 AM EDT reply actions

NBATV

Geez, woke up ready to restart from the tip-off this morning and my NBATV feed is as black as night. Completely out. So the recording is useless. Anyways, thanks for all the updates, Tom. Looks like this has been a terrific outing for the blue and gold.

by spstevenson on Oct 8, 2009 9:37 AM EDT reply actions

Great watch

Too many turnovers but everyone is trying to make a play every time down the court.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:46 AM EDT up reply actions

AJ with a Billups-like finish

initiatede a little contact with Birdman to keep him off his shot and then made the layup.

savvy

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:45 AM EDT reply actions

Smoov

Hansbrough biting at the tongue to get on the court.

I think that’s good…

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:48 AM EDT reply actions

More smoov

Hansbrough relegated to sitting behind the bench. “No foot on the wood for the rookie”

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:50 AM EDT reply actions

Only Big Smoov could make broadcasting sound the coolest job on the planet. I feel like the Pacers should be playing in the middle of a Jazz club right now.

by spstevenson on Oct 8, 2009 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Pacers up 109-93

Sloppy finish with little experience on the floor.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Oops

meant to include with Rush, Dhantay and AJ. See if they can finish this thing off.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:55 AM EDT reply actions

Chris Denari

Nice effort doing play-by-play and MC duties for the broadcast.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 8, 2009 9:55 AM EDT reply actions

Hibbert and Rush

Love seeing those two get back into the flow and have a quality game today.

by spstevenson on Oct 8, 2009 9:58 AM EDT reply actions

MCBOBS!!!!!

Another right-handed flying flush, just like last game.
