we need another weapon

First off I would like to introduce myself and tell you I thank everyone for this website. I have followed the pacers from many states. Last night was a tough loss. I like the potential though. The boys are just getting the feel for each other I know. I can't help to notice that we need another threat. TO just expect that Dunleavy will be %100 of percent of the old mike. Or to expect Hansbrough to shine right away would be ridiculous after starting off with an injury. The Future looks bright, but I am sick to my stomach waiting for that. So what I propose is this. Trade Jeff Foster Now. No right now and get a lights out shooter. Even if we have to throw in Travis Deiner <we have price and head to do the 3rd & 4th string thing>  When I say lights out. I know we are not getting a Kolbe Bryant but teams would give up a steady 20 point a game guy for those two. The cavaliers who need to get tougher inside and on the point could be one team. Why I say this is because we have SOlo, Mcroberts, Hibbert and Hansbro returning. So we are deep enough to get rid of these guys in Both spots. Then when Rush scores 15 + Granger 25  + T.J Ford 8 + Watson 8 + Murphy 15 + Hibbert +12
+ Head 8 + Dantay Jones 6 =========  97 points a game for  an 8 man rotation. With Good Defense that should win a lot of Games.    But now Add a 20 point  Guy   we are @ 117 points a game. That wins a lot more Games.

THen when Dunleavy comes back <which we shouldn't rely our season or future on anymore> add 15 points &

Hansbrough       8 ponints a Game I   SMELL & Taste a Championship This Year.   What do you Think?

I know that was a lot but this is my first post and I read this every night and have a lot to say. So get at me with some thoguhts.    We can make this Happen Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have some concerns with this plan

First, a 20 ppg scorer is pretty rare, only 20 players did it last year. No team in their right mind would trade any of those guys for Foster and Diener; even Golden State with Al Harrington or NO with David West. All the other guys are untouchable (Kobe, LeBron, CP3, etc.) or vital building blocks for teams (Brandon Roy, Devin Harris, etc.).

Second, even if someone would trade one of those guys, we wouldn’t have the cap room to pay him and we definitely won’t pay more tax than we already have to.

Third, and I mean no offense, but the only way we’re winning a title this season is if we drugged the Lakers GM and he traded us Kobe and Gasol for a sack of basketballs and autographed Larry Bird jersey. And even then I’m not sure. Lets just focus on making the playoffs. That’s a realistic goal.

Yea i have been thinking about this since the past year….granger can’t do it all. Granger can hit shots with guys in his face, and is starting to learn how to create his own shot. He already knows how to get to the foul line often. So he mostly gets his points off open shots, tough shots in peoples faces, or free throws. The rest are created shots which don’t happen very often. He is the only really talented offensive player we have, and i know we need defense, but i think we need another guy who can create his own shot a little bit better and has been an all star before. I know that’s a lot to ask, but we are going to have a hard time making the playoffs if granger keeps scoring over 30 points a game but the rest of the players aren’t doing anything! I mean come on, earl watson was our second leading scorer against the hawks!!! Lets be realistic, he’s not a scorer, he got his points off of layups and friendly rims. I know it’s not likely that we are going to get a player that was an all star and can score close to 20 points a game, and can create his own shot, but until we do that, we’re not going to make the playoffs. The east is to deep this year.

Delirious

First of all, the idea that we can easily pick up a 20ppg scorer as suggested above is just ludicrous. Second I don’t know if you are being serious but a championship this year is obviously out of the picture and at this point I am hoping we can either make a playoff run when we get healthy or just finally focus on rebuilding this team (which means getting a top 3 draft pick).

The Pacers front office seem to have shifted too far into the “getting guys w/ character” mode after a couple years of horrible PR. However we are killing ourselves by not getting enough talent. Roy and Brandon Rush are potential role players on good teams, really nothing more than rotation guys, and I am not even sure Rush will get there.

I know people are optimistic about the future, but Granger & Murphy (and potentially Hans) are the only quality building block we really have. Ford has consistently proven he cannot be a dependable good PG, unfortunately it seems that injuries will prevent Dunleavy from ever being the player he once was, and the rest of the guys are nearing the end of their careers or are just journeymen

I know this is pessimistic, but I really think this team will not break out of the 8-11 range in the conference without adding some true lottery talent.

Progress can't be rushed.

1) Getting a 20 point player for Deiner and Foster is the equivilent of Danny Granger for Chucky Atkins and Chris Wilcox. We would go completley defeated for the rest of the season and so would any other less than great team that would trade 20 point guy for guys like Foster and Deiner.

2) Even if that trade happened, we can’t afford anyone with guys like Tinsley eating salary.

3) You can’t add a 20 point player to a team and not expect him to take shots and playing time away from guys like Granger, Murphy, and Dunleavy.

4) You can’t expect everyone on the team to contribute their season average every game and all stay healthy. When you look at teams that can score over 105 consistantly, you get teams like the Suns who are star studded. The Pacers dont have the depth that the Suns or Lakers have.

I agree that the Pacers are quite under-rated but we have to be realistic. They are in the midst of a long recovery that may take years. We need to try to make a playoff run like that of the 07-08 Hawks and try to develope are team around Granger and Hibbert. If we can make a few trades along the way and open up salary space I can see a team well on its way to championship in 4 or 5 years. Lets hope the Pacers can afford to stay in Indiana until that day comes. If it happens any earlier than that, we will have a Cinderella team in Indiana.
