Preseason Open Thread #1: Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls

We have some real, live basketball tonight people. No, it doesn't count but after five and a half months this first preseason game is always an exciting highlight on the calendar. The Chicago Bulls are in town sans Ben Gordon and, like the Pacers, the Bulls are hoping to improve their defense  to compensate for the lost offense.

Tonight's game will not be televised locally but we'll have the action covered here as will Bruno on Pacers.com. I will be at the game with plans to keep this thread updated, so lend Mark Boyle and Slick Leonard an ear, even if you track down the Chicago television broadcast, and join me for some first impressions on all of the new faces in blue and gold.

As always, Blog A Bull has the Chicago fan's perspective covered. After the jump, a few additional game night links:

Yay for Pacers basketball!

Starters

JOB has T.J., Rush, Granger, Foster and Solomon Jones starting tonight. He doesn’t expect to start the same group in the second half. Asked if this meant Jones was a step ahead of Hibbert at this point and he wouldn’t go that far. Just preseason, looking at different rotations. Interesting, though.

That is interesting

I’d personally want to see what McRoberts has to offer as soon as I could. But then again, Obie has seen these guys practice and I haven’t.

is there even like a gamecast or something?

pacers.com had a link to the radio broadcast, but I don’t see it up there anymore. Of course, I can barely get 1070, and then my local AM affiliate is playing high school football.

I like to see Danny

With a couple of assists, working that all around game a bit.

Nice outlet from McBobs

to a streaking Luther for easy two. P’s 18-14

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:32 PM EDT reply actions

Luther and Dhantay look good out there. Just trying to make plays.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:48 PM EDT reply actions

Hibbert has to be stewing on the bench with 3 fouls. Last two were touchy at best.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:49 PM EDT reply actions

Am I crazy to think

that we may have something with S.Jones?

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 7:53 PM EDT reply actions

Nice

BRush just gobbled up that block.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:54 PM EDT reply actions

P's up 33-27

Little more intensity with the top of the lineup in there.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Yikes

Tyrus Thomas just flushed one in my face. wow

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:57 PM EDT reply actions

Rose/Thomas pick n roll giving the Pacers fits.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 7:59 PM EDT reply actions

Liked that Granger-McRoberts-Granger play.

Danny looking sharp.

Good give and go. Nice to see them laughing out there too

John Salmons is good. Like sneaky good.

by jantz101 on Oct 2, 2009 8:03 PM EDT reply actions

He’ll do his part to replace Gordon.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Along with Deng

I figure the loss of Gordon might be overrated for the Bulls. Salmons has that kind of ability, if not a little quieter in how he does it.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Remind me to pick one of those two up in fantasy!

by jantz101 on Oct 2, 2009 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Solo looks active out there. I like!

It's basketball!

Hey Tom, how crowded is downtown this weekend? Lots of stuff going on, I think, right?

by Gwen on Oct 2, 2009 8:12 PM EDT reply actions

Fever & Colts at least

Should be a nice little weekend. Anything else going on?

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

I was reading the Indystar online and saw that the Circle City Classic was on Saturday...

plus all those activities surrounding the event. Too bad I don’t live in indy, sounds like a fun weekend.

by Gwen on Oct 2, 2009 8:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Lots of good stuff from the Joneses

And Danny really makes it look effortless. McRoberts crashing the boards. Rush very quiet though. Hmm…

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:18 PM EDT reply actions

Glad this game doesn't count

Cause it looks like it’s gotten pretty bad here in the third. Deng & Salmons are going to be a good duo. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that Noah is playing to the level he did in the postseason last year or not.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

Ford

I know that not much stock can be put into a preseason game, but this team CANNOT go into the season with Ford starting at PG…. 7 turnovers, unbelievable….. losing Jack will be a much bigger factor in the way this season turns out than I originally thought.

by OldWilson8 on Oct 2, 2009 8:46 PM EDT reply actions

Turnovers

Are a big issue in this game. Ford and Granger have more than the Bulls do total.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh wow

Lindsey Hunter is still playing?

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 8:50 PM EDT reply actions

25 points/23 minutes

7-13 from the floor on a 2-7 3P night including an ever “pesdestrian” 10 trips to the line? Not bad at all. Just needs to cut back on those turnovers, get that +/- (currently at -7) not looking so crappy.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Rush with some nice D there

Disrupted that thing, but didn’t get the possession call.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 9:04 PM EDT reply actions

YIKES

McBobs with the monster flush!!!

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

Youngsters running it out. Pacers down 12. T.J. Ford just showed no interest in playing so Head returned to action.

by Tom Lewis on Oct 2, 2009 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

Rush dropped 13 in the second half. Not bad.

by Nathan S. on Oct 2, 2009 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

That's the game

Really hard for me to tell what was great and what wasn’t from just the second quarter, but turnovers seemed to be a key issue as well as poor offensive rebounding.
