Preseason Open Thread #1: Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls
We have some real, live basketball tonight people. No, it doesn't count but after five and a half months this first preseason game is always an exciting highlight on the calendar. The Chicago Bulls are in town sans Ben Gordon and, like the Pacers, the Bulls are hoping to improve their defense to compensate for the lost offense.
Tonight's game will not be televised locally but we'll have the action covered here as will Bruno on Pacers.com. I will be at the game with plans to keep this thread updated, so lend Mark Boyle and Slick Leonard an ear, even if you track down the Chicago television broadcast, and join me for some first impressions on all of the new faces in blue and gold.
As always, Blog A Bull has the Chicago fan's perspective covered. After the jump, a few additional game night links:
- David Morway is pleased with the direction the Pacers are headed as they slowly climb up the rebuilding process.
- Sam Perkins offers his smoov thoughts on the player on and off court responsibilities.
- Former Pacer/Boiler Brad Milleris living the offseason dream life. Well, assuming you dream of hunting and fishing.
- Joakim Noah is looking to build of his strong playoff performance last season.
- IU stat guru, Wayne Winston continues his discussion with TrueHoop about what he offers Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks

Yay for Pacers basketball!
"Brett Favre was a man who thought he was retired, but he knew it wouldn't last."
Starters
JOB has T.J., Rush, Granger, Foster and Solomon Jones starting tonight. He doesn’t expect to start the same group in the second half. Asked if this meant Jones was a step ahead of Hibbert at this point and he wouldn’t go that far. Just preseason, looking at different rotations. Interesting, though.
That is interesting
I’d personally want to see what McRoberts has to offer as soon as I could. But then again, Obie has seen these guys practice and I haven’t.
is there even like a gamecast or something?
"Does this furniture polish have alcohol in it?" ... "mmm, tastes like i might die."
yeah all i can use is like a scoreboard tracker, (dial-up) out here in the country, but im gunna look around for something
espn didn’t have anything, checking NBA now, but it takes an hr or so

Yikes
connection problems as usual af CFH. Plenty of new faces rolling now.

Along with Deng
I figure the loss of Gordon might be overrated for the Bulls. Salmons has that kind of ability, if not a little quieter in how he does it.
It's basketball!
Hey Tom, how crowded is downtown this weekend? Lots of stuff going on, I think, right?
I was reading the Indystar online and saw that the Circle City Classic was on Saturday...
plus all those activities surrounding the event. Too bad I don’t live in indy, sounds like a fun weekend.
Lots of good stuff from the Joneses
And Danny really makes it look effortless. McRoberts crashing the boards. Rush very quiet though. Hmm…
Glad this game doesn't count
Cause it looks like it’s gotten pretty bad here in the third. Deng & Salmons are going to be a good duo. I don’t know if it’s good or bad that Noah is playing to the level he did in the postseason last year or not.
Ford
I know that not much stock can be put into a preseason game, but this team CANNOT go into the season with Ford starting at PG…. 7 turnovers, unbelievable….. losing Jack will be a much bigger factor in the way this season turns out than I originally thought.
25 points/23 minutes
7-13 from the floor on a 2-7 3P night including an ever “pesdestrian” 10 trips to the line? Not bad at all. Just needs to cut back on those turnovers, get that +/- (currently at -7) not looking so crappy.
Youngsters running it out. Pacers down 12. T.J. Ford just showed no interest in playing so Head returned to action.
That's the game
Really hard for me to tell what was great and what wasn’t from just the second quarter, but turnovers seemed to be a key issue as well as poor offensive rebounding.
