Game Thread #39: Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers

Detroit Pistons at Indiana Pacers, Jan 14, 2009 7:00 PM EST

 Detroit Pistons
@
 Indiana Pacers
22-1413-25
January 14, 2009 - 7:00PM EST
Conseco Fieldhouse
Radio: 1070AM WFNI   TV: Fox Sports Indiana
Probable starters:
Rodney Stuckey PG Jarrett Jack
Allen Iverson SG Stephen Graham
Richard Hamilton SF Danny Granger
Tayshaun Prince PF Troy Murphy
Rasheed Wallace C Roy Hibbert

The Pacers try to regroup at the Fieldhouse Wednesday night when the dreaded Detroit Pistons come to town. Richard Hamilton recently returned to the lineup so the Pistons will likely go small, playing Rodney Stuckey, Allen Iverson and Richard Hamilton at the same time.

If they don't then they haven't been watching video of the Pacers lately and their struggles to keep the ball in front of them on defense. How will the Pacers handle the Pistons with three guards capable of lighting up the scoreboard? I certainly don't expect the Pacers to slow it down and go big, although that should be a serious option. If T.J. Ford and Marquis Daniels aren't available something will have to give because the Pacers won't be able to keep up for all 48 minutes.

Here are the Pacers.com Matchups

For the Detroit perspective, check out two of my all-time favorite sites, mentors if you will, Detroit Bad Boys and Need4Sheed.

Assuming my flights are on time I'll be checking in on this one from Seattle. Leave your thoughts and observations on the game in the comments.

Missed my connection

Thanks to the snow in Indy my initial flight was delayed and I missed my connection in Denver. We were close but still missed by about ten minutes. As we approached the runway and I realized there was no way to make it I felt like Jarrett Jack stuck in the air with the ball and nowhere to pass it.

Better late than never

I survived a late flight and lost bag, not to mention some serious Seattle traffic.

Pacers up 27-25 and trying to control Rodney Stuckey.

From living in Tacoma,

there is no other kind of traffic but serious traffic in Seattle. I-5 should just be renamed Hell’s Highway.

Dun started

TJ is playing. Almost at full strength.

Pacers up 33-31

TJ just had the Pacers first turnover. Yeah, it was ugly but nice to make it 2 minutes into the second quarter before the first donation.

2Q will not be a 30-point quarter unless someone heats up in a hurry.

Compared to recent efforts

the Pacers are defending fine. Lots of missed shots right now, althought Danny just hit a 3-ball.

36-31

Nice. Dun just drew an offensive foul on Iverson. Shut down a transition opportunity for Det.

Pacers up 50-42

Much different game than those track meets out west.

Nice TJ

Finish at the hoop and 1. Needed that, pistons were closing strong to end the half.

Pacers up 53-48 at half

Stuckey nearly banked in a 2/3-court shot. The way things have been going I figured it was going in.

Nice First Half

Pacers always make the games interesting. Let’s keep it up

Even though we have a bad record, we're still only 5 or 6 games out of the 8th spot

I just hope we play some semblance of defense the rest of the year. New Years Resolution along with less Road Rage.

FT differential favors Pacers

Usually goes the other way.

IND 13-17, DET 3-6

Now Rip getting it going a bit

Det up 67-64.

Points at a premium in the third.

Attendance looks good for how terrible the weather is.

Tied it back up

Can we just fast forward to the final two minutes. You know it’s going down to the wire.

TJ!

Nice drive Murph

I just realized, I don’t think Murph can make a layup with his right.

Race to 100?

I was sort of getting used to those 1980s esq 130-129 games.

77-77 8 minutes left

Another slow start of the quarter. Can the Pacers win a game without scoring 100 points? Can they actually hold an opponent under 100?

Looking for a pair of YES answers

Stuckey!

Killin’ me. 3-ball at the buzzer.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:09 PM EST reply actions

Danny and Dun

10-30 from the floor tonight.

Time to start makin’ some boys!

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Ack

1:25 left, Det up 1.

Danny just missed a 3-ball I thought would propel the P’s to a win.

Gotta find a way…

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:16 PM EST reply actions

NO!!!

Down 2, Jack is T’d up after a no call on his drive.

Unreal…

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:19 PM EST reply actions

Stayin' Alive

Somehow the Pistons miss the T and they Prince missed a wide-open game sealer with 11 seconds left.

Pacers ball after a timeout with 11 seconds to go.

93-91

Slick’s begging for a three and the win.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:21 PM EST reply actions

DANNY!!!

Tied it up with 3.9 left to go.

Oh, no.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:24 PM EST reply actions

I'm surprised

Det didn’t break hearts at the end of regulation.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:28 PM EST up reply actions

1:10 left

Had a chance to go up 7. Detroit ball but come on, up 5, gotta close this one out.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:36 PM EST reply actions

Real nice, win

110-106

Pistons had to his a couple of 3s late to keep it close.

by Tom Lewis on Jan 14, 2009 9:45 PM EST reply actions

Feels good

To actually win one. Plus, it’s not 1 am right now. Double victory!
