Mike Wells latest Pacers Insider updates us on Jamaal Tinsley's short-term prospects of remaining a Pacer and the status of Danny Granger signing a long-term contract extension before the start of the season.
On the latter, Danny's agent, Mark Bartelstein is making sure he maintains some leverage even though the likelihood of Danny signing with the Pacers is quite good, regardless of when.
"You always like to get something done, but at the same time, if we don't then Danny will just go into the season," Bartelstein said Wednesday. "I think Danny's best basketball is ahead of him. He loves it in Indiana, the fans and the organization. We would love to get something done, but we have to see if there's a deal that makes sense for both sides."
Let's lock it up at 5 years for $60 million and keep moving forward. Both sides hold some risk in letting this drag out through the season so a compromise would be prudent.
As for Tinsley, I chuckled to read that the Pacers removed the nameplate from his locker. Despite being under contract, Tins has essentially been fired. If a deal isn't struck before camp it would be hilarious to think of Tinsley showing up as if nothing had changed, like Costanza pretending he wasn't fired.
Just further proof that the Pacers and Jamaal are on the same page and something will break prior to the season. It's just hard to imagine what that "something" will be.
