Happy NBA Draft Day, Everybody!
The past few weeks have been full of speculation which only leads to questions. Tonight we can finally see all the answers unfold before our eyes during the NBA Draft. So, what questions do you want answered tonight or at least at some point this offseason? Here's a few off the top of my head.
- If TJ Ford is coming to town, do the Pacers want to take DJ Augustin at 11?
- Will the Pacers go big at 11, and take Mario Chalmers at 17?
- Do they trade down from 11 to take the big player they want and gather up another asset or two?
- With TJ Ford coming in, if the best player left is a wing player, do the Pacers grab him?
- We know Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, OJ Mayo, and Kevin Love won't slip, but what about Eric Gordon, Jerryd Bayless and Russell Westbrook? Could one of them fall into the Pacers' lap at 11?
- After recent comments about Jamaal Tinsley, there must be a plan in place to ensure Tins doesn't return to the Fieldhouse. What's the plan?
- Where will DJ White end up? I can't help but think he could bring a Jason Maxiell impact to some lucky team.
- What will the Pacers do at 41? George Hill?
- If Mike Green isn't picked, will the Pacers be able to sign him up after the draft?
- Seriously, are the Pacers actually trading Jermaine O'Neal? After a solid year of non-stop speculation about deals with nearly every team in the league, has it really happened?
Don't forget the Draft Party tonight, which should be plenty entertaining with all the action surrounding the potential JO trade and the possibility of two new Pacers being drafted by the 17th pick. Here's a nice Pacer-centric draft preview from Bruno with comments from Bird on some of the prospects. No answers, though. Those will be revealed later tonight.

Hopes and Dreams for tonight
Personally I hope that Bird does the following tonight,
1. Drafts one of the following with the 11th pick, Eric Gordon, Bayless, Brandon Rush, Alexander, or Arthur.
2. Drafts one of the following with the 17th, Hibbert, Chalmers, Koufos, Speights.
3. Drafts D.J. White, Bill Walker, Courtney Lee with the 41st.

41st pick is gone
According to ESPN.com’s report on the deal, Maceo Baston is coming to Indy and the 41st pick is going to Toronto.
Baston has one year left at $1.9 mil. At least we know what we have in Baston and the expiring contract is nice. Also indicates more players could be on the move. Including the two picks tonight and subtracting JO the Pacers will have 16 contracts. Assuming Tinsley’s will salary won’t be on the roster, that’s 15. I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m off.

Yeah
I seen that the 41st was probably included in this deal but I’m hoping that’s not true. I thought Bird was trying to get more picks in this draft so maybe we’ll still wind up with a second-rounder somehow. I hear Seattle has like 10 picks in the second, I can’t imagine they actually want to bring that many rookies to camp.

Possibilities...
Any possibilty or talk or anything about packaging these picks and or current player or two to really make a move in the draft. Everyone is saying that bayless is real impressive maybe move up to get him?

We can't package the #17 because we don't have it offically until the trade can be finalized in July.
That is unless another team somehow becomes part of the trade, which would get EXTREMELY messy.

they could package in the same way Toronto traded it though SethG!
We would just have a verbal agreement, you know this man! I am personally hoping we use the 11 and 17 to get a big time player, then we would position ourself for an ultimate rebuilding season, then BOOM top three pick and its playoffs for the next 10-15!

Right I know they could, that's what I was talking about when I said "EXTREMELY messy".
I’d like it, but I’m not counting on it at all.

All indications (at least from these mock drafts, for what thats worth), is that Bayless is slipping. I like our position at 11 and 17. I think its deep enough draft that even if 1 of those picks works out we should be good. I would not want to make trades to move up just to the 7-10 spot. If we can get one of the top guys beasly/mayo/gordon then I say do it, other wise its a waste.
Even though I think Lopez (x2) and Love will both be busts (relative to their draft position, of coures) id love to see a TRUE NBA whitewash.

Wow!
Sorry RazorShines but that is a horrible mode of thought and the type of comment that sets the mindset of the majority back 20 years…. seriously, take the best players available regardless of their race, ethnicity, or color of their skin…..

ESPN's latest mock has us passing on Bayless @ 11 for Koufos.
You cannot imagine how much that would piss my off. I’d go from full on Pacers front office love to total hate in under 24 hours.

Koufos looks good on youtube clips
but I’ve actually watched whole games he’s played in and the soft underbelly of his game does frighten me.

Exactly...I've watched both play a lot.
Bayless literally had me say, “WOW!” at numerous times most games I watched him.
Koufos was underwhelming. I’m always afraid of workout wonders who really didn’t put up in college.

By the way...there were only 9 players (non-GU) who "WOWed" me...
Stephen Curry
Derrick Rose
Michael Beasley
Kevin Love
Jerryd Bayless
Chase Budinger
Joe Alexander
Kyle McAlarney
And the tiny tiny PG from a Division II school who blocked our forwards in GU’s exhibition game

and
Rik Smits when he was at Marist, can’t forget that one!

K-Mac
I love him and his joints. I’m a big ND fan, and he improved so much after his suspension. He will be a solid pro. He’s a better 1-2 mix then a lot of people in this draft that claim to play that.
Harangody wowed me too. He is my favorite basketball player of all-time already.
Mike Green as well. Big Green fan.

Why didnt Bird....
Do this ?? I mean we do have money right ???
- The New Orleans Hornets agreed to send their first-round draft pick, the 27th overall, to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for cash that could help add a free agent. The deal awaits league approval and cannot become official until the draft has begun.

Not on Bird
That’s on the Simons. Plus, the Simons have big money, but not Paul Allen money.
