J.O. Still Heading North? HoopsWord Says: "The word is that this will probably go down"

Hoops Word posted this in reference to the rumors flying around Jermaine O'Neal being packaged in a deal sending him along with Joey Graham to Toronto for T.J. Ford, Nesterovic, and the 17th overall pick.

Jermaine O'Neal and the Raptors

So the rumored deal between the Raptors and Pacers lives on, but the Raptors are trying to get a really clear picture of just how ready Jermaine O'Neal is to resume playing basketball. His recent history of injuries has them worried, but not so worried that talks are dead. The word is that this will probably go down, meaning TJ Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, Joey Graham and the 17th pick in Thursday's draft head to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal and maybe one more player.

Everything is hinging upon O'Neal's health, and perhaps the Raptors wanting a little sweeter deal. More on this story as it develops.

YouTube Videos Showcasing T.J. Ford in the NBA:

1. Ford breaks Jared Jeffries ankle, lets stop worrying about his neck, this guy looks like he is quicker than Iverson!

2. Ford shows to his teammates and fans that he has heart, when he was called for a foul he disagreed with, he wouldn't let it stay at just that. Lets not start thinkin' Artest here, this is just like to me when Dunleavy freaked out in Golden State (when he took his jersey off, all it shows is some FIRE!)

3. Inside look at T.J. Ford when he was with the Bucks.

4. T.J. Ford breaks another ankle, this time his victim is Mike James.

5. The Life of T.J. Ford, great mini documentary on our potential future PG!

6. T.J. Ford's last interview with the Raptors after cleaning out his locker.

7. Last but not least a "Mix" as they call it on YouTube of T.J. Ford, pretty much a highlight reel from his last season with the Raptors w/ some hip-hop in the background!

Who do you want the Pacers next PG to be?
  • T.J. Ford
  • D.J. Augustin
  • Both, trade for T.J. and draft D.J., two Longhorns is better than one!

Can I point out that Jermaine isn't eligible to be traded until July 1st?

I hate to be the buzzkill, but this type of stuff is irritating me. (Even though following the Kings these days are irritating enough as is.) O’Neal’s opt out/ETO means he can’ be traded until July 1st. no matter how publicly he’s stated he’s not opting out of his contract. That’s alll good fine & dandy, but as far as the NBA is concerned, for the rest of this season he isn’t eligible to be traded regardless of what he says. That is unless the rule has changed, and a player deciding to not opt out changes things. (Which I highly doubt).

Try reading this. It will hopefully help you understand more clearly how trades can be conceived.

Onto, the actual fanpost. Wow man you are good. I would love to know where you got those graphs and stuff. That stuff is totally awesome. (It’s hard to dislike 8 youtubes in one posting either.) With the exception of the deal not being possible to make until July 1st at the earliest, I really enjoyed it. Thanks.

Having the

Graham brothers on the same would be sweet.

JO

Im pretty sure it all has to deal with the individual trade clauses involved in Jermaines contract, if traded, he must first agree to the deal, then he can be traded, other than that, Jermaine can completely be traded tomorrow night during the draft to the best of my knowledge. I’m pretty sure Larry Bird, Mike Wells, or any other notable person talking about these deals would have mentioned that if it be the case, and to this point there has not been anything of the sort.

No that's not it at all

This reminds me of what happened with Jason Kidd to Dallas. Then people realized Devean George could block the trade, and he did, and then it collapsed until Mark Cuban was willing to pay more to get Kidd there.

Here is your answer Pookeyguru:

the trade went down and its….. in principle ..... there are the key words, now ya gotta just sit and relax, so the Raptors might still be drafting for the Pacers, just as they did in 99 when we got Bender at the 5th pick for Antonio Davis

I would like to point out a month later

That Roy Hibbert couldn’t play in Summer League because he was property of the Raptors until the 9th. That’s the downside of trading draft picks later. (Do the Pacers even have a team in the Rocky Mountain Revue?)

Additionally...

and all to the point you do you realize July 1st is just 5 days after the draft right? It usually takes time for everything to be finalized, at the worst case scenario, it could be kept secret for a little while, however blatantly obvious if Toronto selects a player fitting the Pacers needs at 17. I really dont see it being much if any of a factor in any Jermaine deals happening…
