Westbrook No Longer In Play For The Pacers?

Bummer. It appears that Russell Westbrook won't be available when the Pacers pick at #11 in next week's NBA draft. According to Pacers.com, the Pacers final workout tomorrow will include Anthony Randolph (LSU, F), Darrell Arthur (Kansas, F), Mario Chalmers (Kansas, PG), Jamont Gordon (Mississippi State, G), Mike Green (G), Trent Plaisted (BYU, C), and Shaun Pruitt (Illinois, F).

No mention of Westbrook but his absence is glaring, especially since previous reports mentioned that Westbrook was scheduled to workout on Thursday. So either we have a major oversight or Westbrook and his peops have secured a top 10 guarantee making the workout unnecessary.

The dream is over. Not too long ago I was a bit concerned the Pacers may be reaching to take Westbrook and hope he can play the point. But I also was sold and everything he could bring to the floor with his athletic ability and defense.

Oh, well, now the Pacers have to hang on and hope DJ Augustin is still available. According to Mike Wells, the front office is ready should Augustin not be there. If they plan to take a flyer on a big, hopefully they can move down to do so and pick up some goodies to go along with the pick.

Lousiana State? Lousiana Tech? Who Gives a....

Anthony Randolph is my favorite player right now, he has really grown on me. ESPN has him ranked as the 5th best prospect right now, which is ridiculous he might fall to us at 11. A lot of the “experts” say it is because Randolph is playing at LSU, perceived as being not a “big time” basketball school, thats the most absurd thing I have ever heard. How many pro prospects came out of Akron St. Vincent St. Mary High School, 1, and what if he played at say I don’t ANYWHERE, LeBron would have still been the first overall pick.

Furthermore, I can name one other LSU prospect that has done pretty well in the pros, Shaquille O’Neal, didn’t see the Orlando Magic passing on him for the “big time” basketball schooled Christian Laettner. Big C did real well by the way, and all the T’Wolves fans should be reminded of that because everyone seems to blame the T’Wolves management for not winning with Garnett because of moves they made after they had KG, well sorry to break it to you, but the biggest mistake happened the year before. I don’t care if Randolph played at the University of Dayton, IUPUI, if he is the 5th best and he is available at 11, DRAFT HIM, as Sir Charles Barkley once said in an under arm deodorant commercial, anything less would be uncivilized!

Hmm, Randolph over Augustin?

Come on, B, you were the original Augustin advocate. What if both DJ and AR are gone?

Gotta trade down, right?

Oh and...

Chad Ford has the Knicks taking Westbrook at 6 in his newest mock draft…. so maybe it wasn’t Westbrook who decided to not work out with the Pacers…. maybe it was big Donnie Dub givin’ us the heads up on what he is doing so we wouldn’t waste our time…. its so weird he is with the Knicks! I still can’t get over it, if he ever brings them a title, and attends Reggie’s hall of fame induction, Miller the Filler better tell him to take that ring off before they shake hands!

Gosh, I'd be so glad if we didn't get Westbrook.

Being on the west coast, I watched almost all of UCLA’s games and was not impressed with him at all. He’s the most overrated player in the draft by far.

I’m still hoping (against hope) that Love falls to us (again watching UCLA all year). If not Augustin or “The Gamble” (Jordan) would be good fits.

Chalmers

Glad they are bringing in Chalmers for a workout. I’ve lived in Lawrence, KS the entire time Chalmers has been here and he seems like a really good dude. I’ve never heard rumors of any type of character issues with this guy or Darrell Arthur.

Having attended many KU Basketball games I can say that I’ve always been impressed with Arthur’s athleticism in person. Chalmers is more the quiet type on the court who leads by example and plays tremendous defense. His dad is an assistant coach for the Jayhawks and it seems that Chalmers is one of those coach on the floor types. Chalmers perhaps would have stood out more as a player if he didn’t have to share the court with so many five-star recruits as his scoring totals have always been only average because the Jayhawks as a team share the ball very well. If we could trade down in the first round I think he would still be there and would be a very big asset to the team.

The thing I like about both guys

is that they are players. They might not project to be perinnial all-stars but they are good, solid players. Reliable. The Pacers need lots more reliable, you know what I mean?
