Root of Pacers problems

When will someone be honest about the pacers?  Ok I will, it is the COACH!!!  OB does not seem to know how to manage and close a game whether you are 1 point  or 25 points ahead.  A coach is there on all levels to oversee, motivate and instruct.  Larry has put together some raw talent that seems to have some chemistry which will be lost if this issue is not dealt with immediately.  And also let Granger naturally become a leader like Reggie did.  Reggie was not always a leader of the Pacers.  Against the hawks he was given the ball late and it looked like he did not want it.  Give it to the man that is hot.  I think Jack would have jacked one up and probably made it that night!!!  Good young group don't ruin them.  Get OB a mentor!!!

You pinpointed the problem

But it is not firing JOB. The fact that this team’s chemistry remains strong and they continue to work hard each and every day is a testament to JOB’s effort. Where you are right is that the Pacers have raw talent and need to allow leaders like Granger to develop. Well…developing young talent ain’t pretty and that’s kind of what they’re doing, no? Plus, no coach in the world can make a player like Granger a leader and great player, that has more to do with Granger. Plus, injuries and illness have definitely had an impact, just look back at all the different starting lineups. JOB’s fault? Look at the Hawks. The Pacers beat them earlier this year without their full lineup, namely Josh Smith. The Hawks were then 6-4. With their full team back they’ve won I think, 8 of 9. Mike Woodson is likely the same coach, just coaching better talent.

Pinpointing the root cause

You are correct I do not belive that OB should be fired. But at the very least there needs to be a lot of feedback. And maybe Larry has given him feedback. The game tonight in NY was a carbon copy of a mismanaged game. Tell me what was he planning on doing with 3 timeouts and 24 seconds left. The last words out of the timeout after Chandler made a bucket and Murphy fouled should have been NO Fouls!! To OB defense he may have stated that, but obviously it was not clear to Murphy. And while I am talking about Murphy, bring in a retired big man to teach him a couple post moves and foot work. Nice jump hook would be nice, from the right side of the lane to the middle of the lane or post left side and bank on left side. An inside threat will open up other things, plus he is a good rebounder. And what more can I say about J squared. Another great game by Jack, I think he is a rising star and becoming one of the leaders of the Pacers! I take my hat off to Larry for finding some young players that are showing signs of good chemistry and the will to win. Lastly there is something to be said about sitting in the cheap seats. You can get a great view of how the game is played. I have sat on the floor also and the view is different. I wish OB would work on getting the players to do 2 things; move without the ball and hands up on defense. Hands up on defense will take away at least 4 points a game from opponents. That would account for some wins!! So just for the record I am not saying OB is the sole problem, but he can be part of the solution. GOO Pacers!!!

JOB - Not the problem.

I can’t blame Coach O’Brien for the problems we’ve had. I blame it on a lack of (experienced) depth, injuries, and poor ball handling.

Just because there was a firing spree of coaches last month, doesn’t mean it’s Obie’s time to go.

Thin line

There is something to what is being said here. There is a fine line between fighting for wins and fighting for losses. You can only fight to lose some much, if we win 25 games this season it will be because the players gave up at some point, we all agree the roster we have now is talented enough to win. The Pacer’s company line that they are work hard and have good chemistry because of Obie etc. is wearing on me, wins create chemistry and losses create resentment.

Jim works the guys hard and if that work doesnt turn into wins the players could sell him out.
